Can’t decide whether I should bother making an account on some website that I don’t care one iota about to ask questions.
I’m not going to be around a computer tomorrow for the live QA session. Anybody want to be a pal and post this to Devon for me? It’s a proposal to balance league play.

No stats change.

Not even that. Only that ascended back items will be easier to obtain. Could mean something stupid aswell.
And its over, rather quickly I thought. I didn’t get much confidence from it. They are still sticking to design decisions that most of the WvW community thinks are mistakes and apart from the answers to the ascended backpiece question and the bloodlust buff being reduced most of the answers were rather wishy washy.

I’m attached to my characters, but I’m more attached to my account as a whole. Don’t make me choose which one to play.
The Wexp chest answer was a response to questions about the “raining ecto” statement. If they did increase the rewards for those chests to contain more rare/exotic/ascended gear, then it was probably by a percentage point and most of us still won’t see an improvement? tinfoil hat
Also, happy they’re at least reducing bloodlust, but would much rather it be completely changed. Thanks for listening to that much and trying it out.
But wouldn’t it be easier and still logical to just give stats to outnumbered and give outnumbered to bloodlust?

2. Reduced stat bonus on bloodlust and further changes are going to be made to encourage smaller servers to take them as a come back mechanic.
3. ANET top level are seriously concerned with the alt unfriendliness going on and more changes are going to be made to address the problem.
4. No new map should be expected any time soon.
5. Dev team see lack of incentive to fight when loosing as number one issue in WvW, they are brainstorming however no concrete plan has yet be revealed.

Let’s make sure we continue to kitten when it’s only a 10% or less reduction. They want to do more testing during season 1 with reduction . Honestly if they just listen to the vocal minority that has been predicting this crap since release they could get ahead of the problem.

Now, 1 year after launch, WvW devs finally agree that coverage is the biggest problem facing the game?
At launch and for weeks afterwards there were hundreds of posts complaining about off-peak capping winning matches. Anet’s response at the time was: “deal with it”.
I’m glad they’ve changed to their tune, but man if it’s the biggest problem facing WvW now, why wasn’t it the biggest problem then? (Like their entire player base was screaming at them that it was).
3. ANET top level are seriously concerned with the alt unfriendliness going on and more changes are going to be made to address the problem.
I’m not getting my hopes up because the one way to fix it is the thing they won’t do. I should have asked a follow up question about having account bound points but allowing each character spend them individually because that would solve all their issues. Although I’m not sure they would ever make this change because they appear so wedded to the idea of character bound points.

It’s NOT an incentives issue. If it was, current Outgunned buff & “world bonuses” would have already addressed it. It’s a kittening NO BRAINER that no one … nomatter how skilled or determined they might be …. wants to be rolled again and again by “the Blob” simply because that server has 2x the attendance for twice the coverage. People on the underdog server simply give up early b/c they cannot find any balanced fights.
And balancing those fights would be pretty simple … and more importantly —> beneficial to BOTH servers. PVD’ing gets boring for the winning side too. The longer they refuse to just outright balance or “scale” these uneven populations in strategic coverage/quadrants of the maps…. the less patience everyone will have for all the other crap (like bloodlust or other redundant & unpopular minigames) that skirts around the main issue.
I know this, b/c I’m on BP and this week we actually have a matchup that functions EXACTLY like a matchup should. Most fights feel pre-scaled on their own, naturally, organically. There is no rote response or “only one way to win”.

…every option on the table for us… feels just as viable as its alternatives.
It never comes down to “Well if we just had more people”. …No there’s so much more depth to it for us right now because most fights have equal STRENGTH on both sides. This doesn’t even include the plentiful 3-ways by the way. The tighter “elite” groups are not so far outnumbered that they can’t possibly win. The newby blobs are not SO evenly matched by veteran Band-Wagoners that they can’t win either. Most fights feel pretty well scaled in group survivability and DPS and thus are allowed to last more than 10 seconds. Some fights rage on 3-5 minutes no where near anyone’s spawn.
It’s basically… like the difficulty scaling we were promised in dynamic events in PvE, except this week it actually was delivered in the world of Guild Wars Two instead of merely promised. Hence why I’m spending all of my time here instead of in PvE land where I usually have to spend most of my time just to find any kinds of fights that even attempt to scale challenge and rewards evenly. Even better, this part of the World, actually has good A.I. most of the time

The funny thing is, this answer is their usual “we want to do something and are thinking about what to do” which, by their track record, means absolutely nothing. We’re still where we started, except with one more quote to use against them when they end up doing nothing.

There’s some minor solutions to <<lighten up>> this problem
But they have to implant more PvE elements
Those old ggs , could implant 3 new <<villages>> on the WvWvW .
One near the windmill , on the south
The second between the xxxx Bay and the Garrison
And the third on the xxxx Hill and Garrison
(xxx = the 2 biggest keeps , on the east and the west side of each map , exept EB)
After each week reset , every1 can capture the villages
The server that has clearly an advantage in total scorring (is 30% ahead of the others-a.k.a has more populations) and have already have captured these villages , will cause the villagers despise .
The villagers after 6 hours will cause a <<riot>> and attack any player from that server , and be hostile to them till they are not 25% ahead in total scorring .
Each village start a Church and some minor houses .
Theres few villages
They assign you to fulfil DE ’s , like harvesting – killing spiders , mining with their own minepick , getting dolyak suplies , or uo simply you u <<buy ought them>> , by using 10-15 silvers
If 1 of the 2 lesser server , gain the trust of the villages , the other lower server can <<hire>> a band of assasins with real gold or any type of currency you have in WvWvW . (You can accompany also the assasins to kill the villager leader)
If the domminant server will try to kill the Leader , any lesser server can activate the Church Bell , that any1 inside of 3.000 range get a debuff that effect only the domminant server stats and they are lowered by 5% with every bell ring – max 60% reduction .
Use more siege weapons , if u want counterplay or go home :P
By doing more DE ’s or using more silvers , u can <<upgrade>> the village .
The <<Upgrade>. may consist of :
a) magically walls show up (hey ! …WvWvW is not an asthetic mode)
b) more guards
c) more building units like Age of Empires
Barracks= with 10 silver u train 15 Ncps that help you to attack the 2 nearest minor keeps (remember if the enemy has 30% scorring advantage , it means you are low in population – any extra help is needed)
Spies guild : with 15 silver you can train spies that will try to <<steal>> some scorring from the domminant enemy (not really steal but rather <<copy>> the score that the enemy will gain after 15 min by 60%)
The enemy as counterplay can hire for 2 gold , some <<spies assasins>> in their major castle to get rid of the bugs .
Butchery : any dolyak kill , gives your server score 10 points , instead of 1
So in results we wont have a WvWvW scoring like :
100.000 vs 20.000 vs 9.000
it would be more <<human like>> but the dominant team is guarrantee to win , because EB wont have these PvE mechanic
Plus WvWvW ranking are based also in population participation , so its highly unlikly a 27th team to skyrocket in 1st
Edit: And if the difference in scorring is less than 30% , it wont effect the match , but simply it will <<change hands>> all the time (because higher tiers matches are more equal) ,

New maps and game modes inc to spvp and they didn’t have to read it from a 2nd party web site looking for hits.
If their problem is , that they want Bloodlust to benefit lower servers only , why they dont try to attach it in a PvE element ?
Like a mass amount of ghosts or fallen comrades , that died from the oppressor dominant enemy , and by capturing each node the comander of all these dead souls apears before u (ascalonion low bubget form would be fine) with the command <<Revenge Us>> (and giving your server the Bloodlust) ?
If the alogorith is too complacated and they cant make a system that award you more stats based on the difference of your server to the dominant and for more duration , the old ggs could offer :
Domminant team = zero points , but they get the kill>score
Second team = 75 stats for each capture
Third = current , but with increased duration

Maybe it got ignored, maybe Devon watched it and couldn’t comment on it without discussing it with his team first. Who knows… I’m just glad we finally got a sliver of communication going between the WvW team and the playerbase. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities like this in the future.

Why are you comparing an expansion to lack of any meaningful improvements to wvw at a patch level? Just felt like talking about DAoC? There isnt even anything closely related to TOA being discussed, so why bring it up?
Good God, how many different ways is there to spin it that that the overwhelming majority of players do not like character bound WXP? More of the same vapid nonsense about personalization, feeling like your character is progressing, etc. Do these guys even play their own game?

Perhaps, But atleast you can do it with 3 people. Yes you can farm the vial with 3 people.
Wow, moderators are on an infraction and delete rampage right now. Telling the truth hurts, isn´t it Anet ?!
Again don´t expect something revolutionary revealed on that Q&A. The core problems of WvW, performance, matchups etc. will never get fixed because they don´t have enough people working on WvW. How many guys are that ? three, four with DC ? This Q&A is a big marketing gag but not serious business, i´am really curious how many times he will say “soon”, “around the corner” or “in the future”.
What I get from Devons answers:
-they got only sliders to work with,like slider for rare in chests
-they dont know how to “upgrade” commander system and it will never be done
-they dont know how to repair party ui and it will never be done
-WvW achivements are joke and will ever be, whiule you get 10 points just to come to event in pve every 2 weeks, you will need 1-2 years to get 10 points from wvw
-no backpacks in wvw (i really dont think that laurels+badges are wvw reward because you can get back item from wvw already by using TP and MF, wvw reward is a drop from bosses or SM)
I like reading threads like this. If the devs agree with you then it’s “well duh we’ve been saying it for months, now they agree” even though the population issue has already been agreed on long ago, people sure love to cherry pick stuff and act like the devs never admits to it, do you need them to read every thread and acknowledge the same thing every time?
Then if they tell you the change is in the upcomming patch we have the “about time, only 34205873209520829 years later.” or “thats it?”

1. Is VERY GOOD. Thumbs up!
2. BL Stat buffs should be removed completely. Winning server with superior coverage and numbers will benefit most from these stats and make the uphill battle even more difficult for the outnumbered party. Guard leech, Power of Mists + all 3 BL buffs together make guild zergs on winning server almost immortal. Now the current level max. +150 stat bonus is crazy e.g. celestial accessories give just +38 to each stat, so the BL blood lust is worth about 4 such ascended accessories.
3. Just do what the player base wants: account based WXP and commander title. Simple and efficient!
4. I would actually want the old BL maps back. The lake replacement is ugly and feels like some dev teleported it from spvp and tries to force spoon def spvp “fun” for their WvWvW player base.
5. Maybe consult some players on this matter? Instead of just implementing something something bad without testing. I repeat what I have written before: the outnumbered buff should vary how badly you are outnumbered (biggest buffs when you only have few) and they should take in consideration the total number of players on 4 maps (to avoid abusing this mechanic via border hopping). The buff should be mostly on the structures and friendly NPCs. Players shouldn’t get any offensive buffs (as this can also lead to problems), but some minor defensive buffs are okay. Increased number of friendly NPC, cheaper cost to build stuff, added carrying capacity etc. are also possible.
Changing the achievements so they only take 1-2 years instead of 10+ like now is good…but they should have them in stages, so if a player plays WvW for 500 hours, they can expect to have 3-4 WvW achievements already. Its stupid that someone like me who has 1500 hours in WvW, still has not got one WvW title from achievements. Why have all of them take forever to get?
The waypoints, I hope they don’t remove them from WvW, it would have a negative impact on WvW, getting into fights fast is fun, travelling ages then missing the fight is rubbish…

are you kidding? they have never acknowledged population disparity as a problem, only as a fact and it exists. that they now see it as a problem is like… a kittening huge step forward. -.-
theyre still headless chickens running around about what to actually do about it though. and they dont tell us anything ever (unless CEO approved for good PR for next patch) so we dont know what discussions have gone on about how they cant change their bad server selection/transfer system.

I think the most depressing thing is the pace of change for WvWvW is already slow and looks to be getting slower. I really didn’t expect much from the Q&A (and I wasn’t disapointed) but what I was hoping for was a feeling they had a plan and were about to really start developing WvWvW.
As it stands they are still brainstorming and nothing will happen for the duration of the leagues. So we can pretty much expect nothing of any note to happen in WvWvW this year at all, just some tinkering with the BL buff and perhaps an increase in drops in rank chests (which will be completely uninspiring I’m sure).
There is an interesting thread somewhere else where (I think Colin) explains the timeline to get something released and it is, basically, 2 months. Nothing will happen during the league season one and no decisions will be made because they will want to wait for the full (and oh so mighty) metrics. So forget seeing anything of note in WvWvW for 5 – 6 months bearing in mind the limited staff there to work on anything?
Couldn’t we at least have the limited resources working on new maps for the duration of the league?

Honestly sometimes it feels spiteful, because lots of vocal people on the forums and reddit want it the answer just seems to be “well you CAN’T have it!”. I have yet to read a decent argument against account bound WXP and I don’t know a single person who cares about their character progression.
My characters progression officially ended at level 80, I progressed it further by fine tuning them in terms of skills/builds and armor. Then I progressed them even further with ascended items. For an alt, and I have 5, that is a hell of a lot of time investment and progression. I don’t want to have to spend 500 hours in WvWvW on each of them too.
Most of us play alts and they clearly extend the length of time we will stay in the game and buy gems. I don’t understand why they want to disincentivise us from playing alts because it makes no sense at all.
