Q:
MSI Titan laptop for WvW?
No/Yes, if you’re coming from a potato then sure it might help, but skill lag is not player side. Skill lag is something that happens when you have the game trying to process the mess that is the 3 way blob fight over SMC. So the graphic slowdowns might be addressed (not totally sure what you’re talking about there, but I really only have skill lag issues since I upgraded a while ago to something similar) but the skill lag will persist.
CPU is only thing that effective your FPS in gw2. having amazing gpu means nothing becuase this is a dx9 game
a way to dramatically incress your FPS is turn off shadows anti laising and render sample to sub sample.
If antilaising look bad to you can use sweetFX to inprove visal of the game outside of GW2 with out insane FPS drop.
When I talk about my game slowing down, I’m actually referring to me bashing my heal button for a minute, and it just blinks at me. I guess that would be extreme skill lag, rather than a 2 or 3 second delay in a skill popping.
But just from these quick responses, you guys are saying that I’m spending close to $4k for nothing? I mean, a Skylake i7 6820HK was supposed to have superior single core processing.
I recently bought a new laptop with slightly worse specs than yours, and I can run Guild Wars 2, max graphics, with no real lag at all in WvW.
Frames maybe drop to 26 in large fights

Yeah that skill not activating and blinking for a minute is just server side skill lag that you can’t avoid.
I wonder how often these threads should pop up for Anet to at least try to do something about it.
You can’t do much regarding skill lag, it’s a netcode issue. Everyone has it. Spam 1, hope for the best. And pretty much the only way to improve your FPS is to get a CPU with better single-threaded performance. And even so, in a 3-way blobfight you’ll still hit those 30-35 fps. Unless you are running with character model limit/quality on lowest. Sadly, the game just wasn’t designed for large scale battles.

Just a heads up, I play on an MSI Ghost Pro 3k (I think), and I was out of the game for two months because their warranty support is rough. I spent a huge amount of time arguing that extra damage they wanted to charge me for was caused by their techs, and THEY had the photos to prove it.
If I could do it again, I’d have bought a different brand. The computer works fairly well for gw2 though.

So the consensus is that having a good CPU is good, but nothing will fix a T1 blob fight? If that’s the case, wouldn’t Anet have upgraded their server farms by now? In any case, I appreciate the feedback. I’ll cancel my order and request a much much cheaper gaming laptop.
Find your processor’s single thread benchmark here
It will be fine, my MSI was more then capable for T1 playability.
Just don’t expect miracles. I don’t think that there is any CPU that would run WvW well.
Seafarer’s Rest EotM grinch
waste of money for dual gtx 1070 better off just get 1 1080 and get i7-6800 since more core the better performance. I would just wait for AMD 8 cores laptop.
anet stated they will never upgrade the sever this game was a fail design for WvW because it a DX9 game only do so much on old tech.
I just got this 6k almost maxed out Northwest Falcon Tiki Desktop

Nvidia 1080

Average FPS on Ultra Settings in WvW is 90. On zerg vs zerg fights on a T2 Server, drops to around just below 50. No stutter, not slowdowns, character models never gets replaced by those crappy models.
Averages 100+ FPS on BF1 and BF4 with all the explosions and smoke going on. Averages 200+ on Alien Isolation. Average 50+ FPS on Tomb Raider Ultra settings.
Don’t underestimate Storage space. GW2 is the only program I have installed on Drive C and its almost 100gb used already with just system files and such.

For skill input lag, yes. This will never be fixed because there is nothing ANet can do about it until they increase cooldowns and massively reduce the number of proc effects/good proc effects in the game. Some time ago the programmers came out and said that it’s all about concurrency issues related to these effects, and no amount of hardware that they could obtain will help reduce these loads.
Reaper getting CC’ed proc fear which procs multiple other on-interrupt effects like FoF, and the same fear procs chill which may proc boon gains which procs blighter’s boon gaining health, meanwhile the FoF procs Communal Defenses which procs Altruistic Healing which also proccing another Blighter’s Boon on another reaper, meanwhile that same initial reaper may go to 50% hp and proc Auto-Spectral Armor which causes incoming hits to proc life froce gain, and this perpetuates over every profession in essence. One call – a CC propogated into a ton more all at the same time. Because these all need to be processed in order, adding more servers won’t do anything in most cases, since this order needs to still be maintained as a serializable set of instructions across the platforms, which could potentially make the input latency issue even worse.
And that doesn’t include the normal processing of other combat-related artifacts like dealing damage, cooldown timer management, etc.
And of course, there are a ton of other function calls which need to be made to determine the values for everything (boon duration, condition duration, food ticks and other food-and-sigil-based procs on top of the networking latency between hardware devices to try run these calls in parallel.
Now multiply this by roughly 200 and keep doing it every second or so. It’s very easy to overwhelm a system this way. Literal millions of instructions needed to be performed in fractions of a second and all that data returned in proper order, too, and then networked out. It’s too much work for a system to do since the amount of resources necessary to offset some of the problems would be way too costly to ANet (if even feasible in general) for just a WvW-related issue that only occurs based on how the players are playing the game.
Unfortunately ANet profession developers have a fixation on making skills and traits overly-convoluted and filled to the brim with proc effects, and the only format affected is WvW, so I doubt we’ll ever see improvements. Based on the nature of the HoT elites, I would expect it to steadily get worse as more power creep and self-playing-professions are introduced.

Blame the pitiful optimization. And having a computer will not help with server lag.
It’s overkill for Gw2, though if you’re planning on recording or playing some other new games you can always go for it if you have the money. Is this thing on sale? It is the holidays. I’d definitely go with a cheaper laptop. How much does this cost? Googling suggests it’s over 3k and that seems like a lot. Plus it’s quite on the heavy end and wouldn’t be as portable.

for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Its nowhere near enough, what is that crap?!
As everyone know, minspec for GW2 is Intel i7 7xxx series, 64gb ram, Nvidia Titan X in a quad sli setup (dual sli if you want to run on peasant quality graphics), 2TB M.2 SSDs in raid0 (5000/1000 mpbs write speed minimum) and not one but two physical soundcards to drive each of your Sennheiser Orpheus headphone speakers.

What? No thats ridiclous. I have a Cray in the backyard hangar for that.
i have 2 MSI laptops GT72 with i7 4800 gtx980m and ge60 apache pro i7 4710 gtx 860m
never had issue with lag on both both been with me for over a year from wvw to pve bosses events that will have lot of ppl ie dragon stand as example but the fact that gtx980m have much higher fps my gtx860m drop to 20-25 fps on blobby fights on wvw gtx 980m 30-35 fps (wvw blobfest) anyway even having the good fps i think anet servers can not handel that much as a friend having a desktop with gtx titan z and i7 extreme edition water cooling and so on he get some lag as i do also but not in the extent of cant cast skills but delay of 2-3 sec
also advice dont get SLI / crossfire the microstuttering is like hell tested on desktop with 2 gtx 970 SLI
Just confirming skill lag can’t be reduced from player side. Your own computer renders environment which most often run smoothly even when a single heal takes 1 minute to execute. Roll over your character while experiencing skill lag and see yourself.
i can give you my spec i never lag or rarely get skill lag it has to be fights of 100 people +
I7 5930k (only importent part in build.)
2 titan black <- GW2 does not support mulity video cards (also almost no improvement over my GTX 580×2 befor i upgraded)
32GB DDR4 2666hz (ram does not matter as long it DDR3+ it good enough)
hard drive does not matter it ssd / sata 2 or 3 idk it my recording hard drive.
here a link of what my computer look like in zerg fights. i am probably avring 30 – 40 fps threw out fight well recording at 15k bit rate.
