Q:
Maggumma
If ANet can’t step in and take a server that just doesn’t have the presence it used to have and put it in a lower tier, then this is just an example of how messed up their WvW views are.

Because of this unfair matchup, Mag is pretty much dead in wvw now.

The irony is: Prior season 2, all T2 wanted was to be SoS/Mag/FA BFF… You have absolutely no idea of how people frowned upon the idea of Dragonbrand being on T2 (Which ended up happening because of SoR implosion).
Now all T2 want is to no longer be this same tier they wished to be…
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
I do not think that this is going to happen any time soon, ANet won’t manually interfere in server rankings and it looks as if Maguuma will stay in Gold League for the next 4 weeks. I am sorry to say so, but please don’t expect people to care.
Thing is, there is no T3 server that can give SoS and FA a fair fight in their tier. And no server from the T3/4 group currently really wants to go up there. People from T2 servers said they look forward to spawn camp any server coming up. Last time Maguuma dropped down to T3 they spawn camped their opponents by the way.
Should Maguuma drop in rank then i think you can expect the same from your opponents, like it happened to HoD when they fell. They hadn’t shown any fairness to their opponents during season 2 themselves , and SoR had to suffer for 9 weeks in Silver. So it will most likely be a rough time for Maguuma for the next weeks/months.
WvW is not about fairness, and T2 is the hell its players created on their own. A place no one from the lower tier servers wants to be.
Maguuma most likely won’t get out of Gold for season 3 just like SoR did not get out of Silver during season 2. And expect to get the same treatment as HoD on your way down if you aren’t strong enough to prevent that, because of the reputation Maguuma has built up for itself.
I am not showing any Schadenfreude here, i am just telling how things most likely will be.
This isn’t the first time. Servers have collapsed/got bandwagoned after getting tier-locked before. Happened to IoJ and FA in S1.
Anet won’t do anything because they’re afraid of setting a precedent of manual intervention. Probably afraid it’ll open the floodgates where thousands of players request that their server be moved to a different tier.
Really, the problem is tier-locking. It was a terrible idea in S1, an equally bad idea in S2, and, you guessed it, still a horrible idea for S3.
Having been on Mag and dropping down to find a new home (and heading back up because T3 isn’t for me), I can say this with some certainty. No server could move up and do well. If Mag did move down it would likely beat the snot out of T3 even today. During NA prime its zerg can effectively compete with SoS and FA zergs. It just cannot do that and hold territory.
On the plus side SoS and FA are finding parity with some leaving SoS and FA seemingly holding strong. They just need another FA sized server in the mix to make T2 awesome again.
So whatever happens some server (most likely Mag) is going to get screwed for the next month.

The exact quote is that Yak’s Bend would be spawn camped. Players in T2 really aren’t thrilled by YB’s lack of fights. Additional comments were also made regarding FA seeking a 2v1 against SoS with CD’s help if they were able to roll a T2 match.

It is too late for that. There was a match one week months ago where Anet manually intervened for T8.

They adjusted the glicko ratings manually for FC/ET so SF could climb out of T8. That is if I am remembering properly that was quite a while ago. The problem there was SF could not beat ET AND FC (simultaneously) enough to actually gain the rating to climb.
Ironically Maguuma is obviously in a similar position in that ticking +5-20 ppt for long periods of the day is not enough to drop….The main difference being that eventually what is left of Mag will drop, whereas SF would have never climbed without the intervention.
The stupidest part of all of this, is ANET could have intervened, and made their “leagues” slightly more legit simply by ensuring Mag rolled a T3 match this week. Instead they allowed the RNG (or whatever you believe they do) to roll probably the worst situation (for Mag and T2), by boosting DR up.
Now with this being the last week it is a lot to ask of CD to steamroll for PPT on DR, considering DR will likely leach rating in most of the possible outcomes.
With that said, respect to CD because they do seem to be giving it a go…If that remains true, they can join the ranks of Mag/FA (and NSP in S1) of being some of the few servers that actually tried to move up and get better fights/competition.

Interesting, but I assume they did this during off-season? Cause they sure as hell didn’t do anything to adjust SoR’s Glicko before S2, forcing a Bronze-tier server to suffer 9 weeks of hell in Silver.

It seems players in T2 really know a lot about how YB fights.
People aren’t thrilled because YB does not fight the way they want to in T2. But of course PvD is so much better. Or spawn camping others.
But that is not the topic of this thread.

This was before the invention of “seasons”. Back when people WvW’d cause it was enough.
The T8 adjustment occurred in response to the Kaineng free-transfer bandwagon sucking rating points out of T8. Look at today and the ratings system still has issues with regards to accounting for mass transfers in and out of servers. It just doesn’t react fast enough to settle a server into a tier suitable for it’s new population size.
See SoR, HoD, and now Maguuma.

We will happy to have you guys joining SoR server, since we’re in the process of building our sever why don’t you guys join us, we’ve got a good community, people respect each other. and just have fun.

Wait you want people (from Maguuma) that typically shun PPT and look more for fights/roaming to come to your server, (SoR) one that is mostly famous for crumbling due to a rift (supposedly) between the PPT-folks and the “for the fights” folks?
A hidden hand could have given Mag the 1% chance, or whatever it is a T3 matchup and avoided all this.
It is pathetic that after the experience with season one, Anet has gone with the same system for not one, but two more tournaments where a few unlucky servers will be locked into terrible matchups for a period of time. Why bother doing these things when absolutely no effort is put into creating somewhat fair divisions? Are they that lazy, or is it effectively an admission that the whole tournament is farce for PvE / LW players that makes real WvW worse for many players?
They are more or less giving the middle finger to anyone left on Mag who wants to play WvW. It’s arguably a worse situation than SoR had in S2, though SoR had to endure it for a longer period of time.

as long as people can just switch teams whenever they want makes this so called wvw tournament thing a farce; simple as that.
condense everyone down to the 3 orders (based on characters storyline) then if you want to play on a different side just log in with the toon that belongs to that order

While I don’t disagree that FA will always hold its own no matter what tier because we don’t care if we win or lose, a large part of why we are is because Mag does not exist.
EXAMPLE: I just took the mag keep on EBG with a single other FA player. Yes two of us took the Mag keep with no resistance. FA score goes up to compete with SoS through no effort at all (other than a fairly annoying fight against like 80 guards.)

SF, FC and ET were locked in T8 with SF winning every week constantly while not able to gain enough rating to leave the tier. After months of the three servers being matched together anet intervened and manually rolled SF up to T7 and brought GoM down to T8. This allowed the ratings between T7 and T8 to finally normalize.

I was referencing population levels especially since PPT is a poor measure when server parity is this dysfunctional. FA has remained consistently strong throughout my time fighting them. Sure there are times of the day where FA is ticking high from ESS (empty server syndrome) but when NA prime rolls around FA still brings numbers to the party.

I remember that. All of us on GoM at the time were so salty about being manually moved down to T8 that hardly anyone even bothered logging into wvw for the first week or two after. SF deserved to move up, but the entire handling of that situation was terrible. ET/FC deserved better than some patchwork pity solution.
As for CD moving up to gold, we’re trying. That RNG roll hurt, but it looks like things are still going to be up in the air as the week progresses.
