Make NPCS use cannons /siege weapons
Trebuchet and catacults no.
Cannons, arrow carts and ballistas yes.
wouldn’t it be better that NPC should do everything and, they should put a few chairs their while your at it so we can sit down and enjoy the show.
Would easily make rams useless though… and knowing AIs, it’ll probably be easy to exploit all NPCs fire on that lone tank while the gate’s being speedbashed

That’s the price to pay for an AI manning siege. No different from any other tactics used in other PVE encounters. Players vs NPCs and a door is PVE by the way.
Of course players should be able to take control of siege at any time from an AI.
I’m all for making new objective, making upgrades of keeps more useful, adjusting cannons and oil so they are not so easily destroyed, maybe even making guards a bit more useful. But yeah I do think this takes it a bit to far, it is a slippery slope that leads npcs to just doing everything.
The inverse of this means that small groups or ninja teams would no longer be able to accomplish anything which I also think is a bad idea. It would also mean that empty servers would get even more empty because they cannot accomplish anything.
However, I do agree with the OP that night capping is an issue and paying real gold to upgrade things should not be so easily taken. Why should I (or anyone) pay several gold to upgrade something just to know it will get taken when I log off because no one is there to defend or no one is competent enough to defend it. But I think instead of having npc’s do it for us we need to balance populations and population times so that there are players to do these things.

I’d argue that PvDoor isn’t quite PvE. The act itself obviously is, but why aren’t there enemy players defending it? Most likely because of your strategy, which imo ranks higher in pvp than standard zerg v zerg.
Also, it wouldn’t stop nightcap servers I think. Main use would be to place a bit of siege to prevent small attacks… which would allow a strong nightserver to completely ignore active defense.
As for slowing assaults, I’m all for that (to the point where losing a keep may take you a day to get it back), but it seems hard to do in the current form of GW2.
I want to use this discussion, to put in some ideas.
I find the night capping also annoying. I mean I saw a Zerg take our fully upgraded Keep within some minutes… that is not nice. I mean this Zerg should still be able to get the keep, but it should take the Zerg some more time and effort.
So now my ideas:
- Fortified walls are super awesome strong, so that it simply takes more time to destroy them
- One can buy a commander NPC as Upgrade, who gives the existing NPCs the ability to use cannons, oil and morters (so only the siege u get via upgrading the keep)
- Workers use supply to repair doors and walls automatically (can be stoped through the guild who claimed the tower)
- one can buy more workers, to make this quicker
- Towers, keeps and that one very big castle have a constant supply drain (food and maintenance), making supply camps and active supply lines more important, even to fully upgraded fortifications, no supply means walls, doors and siege loses HP until a minimum HP, so that it can be easily destroyed and additional guards and even the NPC Commander will leave the fortification)
- the more NPC you hire for a fortification, the more supply is drained. (and thus the Commander NPC is the last upgrade in its line, it will take much supply already from the personal upgrades like more guards and stuff)
So the supply will take a very very important role, more important than now. And the night crews will have to take care of the supply lines first.
Chronomancy works, I am proof of it. Now stop asking me questions. Time must be preserved!
