So I really rally hate PvE in this game. I can do champ trains for maybe 30 mins before I want to off myself. So can you actually make gold doing only WvW? I just spent about 75 gold, which was all I had, on gearing out my new Ele (runes are so kitten expensive ). Im sitting on like 5 silver now. Normally I will run with some karma trains and take stuff but even when I open like 20 embroidered bags I make hardly anything.
When I want to make future characters will I be able to gear them out once I hit 80 if I only like doing WvW? Also if not why? I dont see how people should be punished because they only like doing WvW. I mean the people who only like doing PvE and don’t like PvP dont have any problems earning gold. Also because I find leveling so boring I need gold to tradeskill power level any new alts I might want. Is the tradeoff for doing what I love being broke forever?
I tend to make a couple gold every time I play for an ok amount of time. WvW rank chests, loot, occasional rares and rewards add up to a decent amount over time. It doesn’t compare to PVE gold, but it works.
Don’t forget that you can get gear with karma and gear at a reduced price with badges of honor, which you also obviously get in WvW.
How much gold you’ll make depends which tier you’re in. Even in the lowest tiers though we make gold. At the end of the day you do earn karma, badges, gold, laurels so that’s 4 different ways you can pay for exotics/ascended. The dragonite buff is pretty huge too and am loving that.
What kind of food you buy, whether you upgrade, and how much siege you place will cut into that, of course.
One of my few remaining complaints is some runes are available only in dungeons (monk runes, I’m looking at you!).

95% of my game time I play WvW with my guild or in small scale groups / single roaming. I have never joined a pve champ train, but I can tell you one thing: Before I would join a karma train in WvW, I would move my kitten in the pve and join a champ train.
If I waste my time, I would do it in a way were I could get the most gold…
^ +1 I spend alot on upgrades, siege, etc. And never lose money unless I make big purchases. Usually end up with +2-3 gold for a couple hours with the guild.

Karma trains are by far the fastest way to earn money. When they are rolling, they move with full speed as well as tearing through guards, camps, towers and keeps ridiculously fast.
Large scale open field battles generate a lot of concentrated loot bags, but often these are not sustainable. That is probably different depending on tier though.

P.S. but i have to admit that i play on a server where people is not engaging an enemy zerg unless is at least 3 times bigger screaming “this….. is…… SFR!”.
GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
Running with a wvw guild financed the gear and leveling on my 8 characters, some of them with several sets. Never done any of the dungeons or fractals, maybe only couple of hours of champ farming in total.
Like letoll said killing players is much more profitable then karma training.
The truth is that WvW is the most profitable way to farm now. Thats an issue for core WvW players. We don’t want it to be the case because it attracts the wrong kind of players with the wrong kind of attitudes.

But you have other server karma train. So while you’ll fight those, the first server karma train forms again and the cycle of life continues!

OK I guess there is only one way to actually test this. Making a new character and as soon as I clear the opening story only doing WvW from level 2 until I hit 80. Will buy nothing except kits for salvaging. Will only use gear and items from bags and bags from taking stuff.
Each rank up chest gives around 10-20 silver, so it’s pretty easy to make money in WvW now, provided you run with a decent guild and/or participate in karma training.

yes it is possible to make gold in wvw. not as steady and robust as pve though. it will depend alot on your zerg’s/guild’s performance and if you spend alot on food and sieges as mentioned above. sometimes you get lucky on the loots but of course that’s not as steady and reliable compared to guaranteed golds after a dungeon rush(which i find ridiculous). worst case scenario is you’ll be at a break even on costs and rewards..
Invest in a Journeyman Salvage kit and salvage all Greens and Blues…sell all material and Golds in Lion Trading Company…I make 10-20 gold a week doing that…
Doing nothing but wvw, got a lot of upgrades for several toons thanks to the gold gain, bought 2 commander tags and wasting tons of gold on upgrades, yet my goldstack keep going up and hardly sitting on a karmatrain ( boring stuff ) , so yea you can make a decent amount of gold in wvw if you ask me

Somone who only plays WvW will never be able to be rich. It takes weeks until you have 100g in your pocket. But this doesn’t mean you won’t be able to get exotic gear. If you level your character from 1-80 only in WvW you should be able to get a full set. Nothing more, nothing less.
The money you make from WvW is many, many times less than what you’d make doing PvE. That said, despite spending almost all of my time in WvW I’m on my third legendary. I’ve found that you make the most money by wiping enemy zergs whilst capping objectives. Karma training is fairly good money, but nothing beats wiping a juicy 60-man blobfest before capping a keep. Even better when the blob res rushes to warbanner the keep lord.

In all seriousness it was just about the fights, they were getting fewer and fewer. The amount of roamers SF had was dwindling, so I really was starting to not fit in. I did not agree with some of the choices being made (or things being said), but then again they were not really my choices to make or mine to say as an individual.
When it gets to that point, it is just better to bounce and find a place just to play the game. I still play from time to time on my alt.

a week? Been doing the new LA events since all our commanders were in there. When I sold all my salvage stuff last night before logging I made 19g since the event went live on Tuesday. So basically you made as much in 1 week that I made in 2 days doing LA events.
Sell any siege you drop, don’t upgrade anything. Follow the horde of zombie zerglings and you will make about 1/10 of what you can in PvE for the same amount of time spent. I can make 10g an hour farming Karkas or Champs good luck getting anywhere close to that in WvW.

who cares about gold in WvW, WvW is all about fun, PvE is boring.
I do, why shouldn’t we be able to get comparable rewards for playing the game mode we enjoy most. By comparable I mean at least self sustaining. At the moment many people have to go farm PvE to pay for WvW expenses, there is no way in hell that anyone would be able to make a legendary from WvW rewards (minus the gift of exploration). Try getting nice looking skins out of WvW. Try hunting achievement points from WvW only, compare that to PvE. I just think it would be nice if the WvW dev team wasn’t so effin stingy with the loot.
