I try not to overly complain on the forums but not real happy logging in seeing another week of nearly the same matchups. T6/T7 are the only tiers that got useful randomization.

As a suggestion maybe open up X amount of free transfers to servers that aren’t as competitive in their tier to balance things out a bit. I am pretty sure the vast majority of players dislike stale matchups particularly those that end up being one sided for weeks on end.

5 weeks of Darkhaven and 2 weeks of NSP, boring. DH just zergs in the morning and I saw the elusive NSP on reset, yay.

If there are no (fair, balanced) alternatives to choose from any match-making is lost.

In any case it still has more variation than the original system, where you had to fight for any point (now you may get + / – 90 temporary random points) to go up or down.

So crush your opponent more badly to go up or loose badly to go down!

Or vote for a better scoring system that brings more balance or for time-sliced matches that let you run several different matches over the day.

it’s working about as well as it can work, unless you like being in blowout matches where you either crush your opponent or get crushed.

at least with the current system, matches are typically close, and in cases where they’re not it’s usually because it’s not possible to make the matchup better for 1 server without making it much worse for another (that is, there are some servers stuck in bad matchups, but they are the “least bad” in the sense that the only alternatives are to give another server an even worse matchup).

and I agree that a better scoring system is your best bet for real improvements at this point.

5 weeks of SF Of all t6/7 servers we could get stuck with, naturally, we would get SF. Sigh….

Give me FC/GoM/AR, any combination of three 3. I love those guys.

Um, try being in tier 1. 100% chance of fighting the exact same match up….lol.

T1 vs T1 100% of the time is actually the correct setup — that’s what happens when everyone stacks there so hard that no other servers are competitive. Enjoy this week (and next week’s and the week after’s…) matchup!

Over here in the EU Desolation has a decent chance of matching up T1 servers like Vizunah in-fact we’ve had Riverside and SFR, but we haven’t been matched up with Vizunah thus far since normal Match-ups resumed. And we’ve had some decent variety with our Match-ups.

It makes sense that the Top 3 servers have a high chance of facing each other though, it’s not like the time you had Deso and SFR stuck in Tier 1 waiting to lose enough rating to drop down to Tier 2.

So overall this system is much more welcome than the previous Tier system, although thinking about it now the previous calculations used before the leagues weren’t so bad as long as you didn’t pay attention to the scoreboard. I suppose you had Match-ups pairing Servers from 1 to 15 which was pretty ridiculous, but you still have blow-outs and disparities between Server populations either way.

If you want Balance and Fair Matchups, Anet should encourage players to transfer to balance out populations especially before they ponder over a League Season Two.

Problem is, server population and overall strength isnt really reflected in the tiers. I am certain this is the case for multiple servers throughout the tiers. Especially now after the season is done, living story take 60% of WvW players and the other 40% are kittened off at nothing being done about WvW while all focus go to living story.

I am on Piken and its quite a hilarious situation. We no longer have the population to give a match in our tier even during primetime (outmanned in our own border 15 minutes into reset night, great fun!) yet next week we’ll probably face off with Vizunah or SFR again (or both) because the randomizer think we’re high enough tier to beat them.

Edit: Lol just checked current scores. The only tier more unbalanced than T2 in terms of points is T9, haha.

@Dawdler: No it’s not the randomizer, it’s simply the consequence of the fact that there have to be always exactly 3 servers in a match. But as there are 4 servers with T1 coverage at moment (SFR, Vizu ELona, RS), and only 3 fit in a match, one is remaining (last week Vizu, this week us) to crush you in T2.

For next week Piken has currently a very good chance to play T3 and Jade (nearly 50%) or Deso (around 30%) taking your place in T2.

I would not want to punish good play so the only thing I can think of aside from a reroll of the WvW system is to create some sort of advantage for guilds to transfer off dominate in-tier servers. The current atmosphere has weaker servers losing players rather than gaining them.

Woke up to the map below this morning… This has been our match almost every week since leagues. I would rather face a stronger NA server than utterly dominant oceanic one.

Gunnars Hold seems to be fine, rarely same match ups over and over again, sometimes it is with another server but 3rd is random and also close to eachother rank wise so no match up is actually a blow out for any of the 3 servers, i do like it now tbh instead of the one we had before leagues where u could be matched up with servers +8 -8 in ranks

On ros we are either matched against other bronze league sides which we are too strong for or against silver sides which are too strong for us. You can almost predict the sides you’ll be matched against. Unfortunately for us we are ‘in between’ side – too strong for one league & not the other.

Hmmm…weren’t we complaining about stale match ups before random matchups? Then, before the season we complained about random match ups, because they were leading to lopsided matchups. Now, after they adjusted it to minimize the lopsided matchups, we are complaining about stale matchups again.

The system wasn’t changed because we complained, but because it was mathematically broken and we managed to prove that to ANet. It had a design flaw that let it work worse and worse the longer it was running. To fix that flaw randomness was added, a bit more randomness at the beginning, to recover from the results of the flaw, a bit less now, that this flaw correction has happend.
