I’m sure I’m not the only person wondering why this is? After all isn’t a forum to discuss issues that people have with the current game. I’d say the current match up system is a big issue for a lot of people, which leaves me to speculate that you already know it’s a unfair shambles of a system.

I can understand why matchup threads are a problem. If you ever read the gw2wvw forums where the actual matchup threads have been for years and seen what kind of insults people throw at each other every day, i totally get that they don’t want that in this forum.

However it disturbs me that they classify any thread in which people complain about the server link system and express their (valid) concerns and (understandable) frustration as “matchup thread” and just close it without further discussion.

The current system is a disaster for anyone that doesn’t happily transfer to the current bandwagon server at the beginning of each link period and people want to know if they ever plan of finding another solution or if this continues indefinitely, but instead of an answer they just get a closed thread. It’s no wonder people quit the game when treated like that.

They used to have own match-up threads here, but the people posting there destroyed ANet’s image of a “nice and friendly community”, so they decided they didn’t want to have that on the official forums. Ever since they’ve disallowed “Match-up talk” because they want to avoid that type of “toxic talk”.

I can see their point, most of the match-up discussions tends to devolve into mud slinging and name calling, with very little constructive or relevant content. And there is a own forum for that if interested, mud slinging and all.

“Some months ago, we asked forum members to not create or engage in threads requesting the reopening of a server or the adjustment of Glicko ratings for a specific server. We explained why at the time, but a little more information and an expansion of our request seems in order at this time.

Server Reopening Requests: Worlds reopen most often due to the natural ebb and flow of players, which impacts the number of play hours on a given world. If a world reopens, it is usually because players or guilds changed worlds, players have stopped playing on that world, or, rarely, because we made an overall adjustment to world capacity. We do not reopen servers upon request and ask that you not post such appeals.

Thread about Worlds: While we appreciate “world pride,” quite a few threads about game worlds become unnecessarily contentious and negative, and we need to close those. Sometimes the mods use the term “matchup thread” when taking action. Yet you should know it’s not the matchup that’s the problem, it’s the unpleasant comments or tone. I’ll work with the moderators to help them make closures, warnings, and infractions clearer.

An example of such a thread is here. As you can see, the thread included several insults. If you want to bash a world or a player, do it in the game!

Glicko Resets: The devs don’t reset a Glicko rating upon request, and resets are not based on perceptions or opinions but on factual data derived from the game info itself. We’ve seen understandable confusion when a reset takes place shortly after someone posts a request thread, or when a reset did not happen even though someone requested it. In order to avoid that kind of confusion, we ask that players not submit Glicko reset requests.

Here’s an example of such a thread. Again, the thread became unpleasant and the initial request wasn’t in line for action, anyway.

Arguing World Links: The devs make world linking decisions after on a neutral review of data, using algorithms, and based on their best judgment. If you want to discuss your opinions about specific world linkings, you’re welcome to do so. If you have questions, my best advice is to pose your questions in a conversational (not combative) way, because sometimes a dev will be able to provide some information, such as here. However, as a general rule, ArenaNet employees simply do not have the time that would be required to answer individual questions or debate a world linking topic. They do read the forums, however, and will review your constructive feedback on the subject.

I hope these additional details and explanations will help everyone understand our desire for communication coupled with our need to set realistic standards for discussions and forum topics."

One of the issues is that constructive conversation about actual issues often gets derailed by insults and mud slinging against specific servers, communities, guilds, or play styles. Which means the good stuff gets buried in trash talk.

You can talk about the process and the issues that linked servers present. Just hope no one jumps in and starts the insults flying, because the thread will then get locked.

They used to have them here a few years back. It was toxic and trolling. I found it amusing reading the stuff but it doesn’t belong here.

It inevitably leads to a bunch of crying and personal attacks whenever it’s convenient. Or it’s used by people that want to suggest that the only logical solution is to open their server to illegitimately allow their 67 “friends” to immigrate to said server.

That being said, I’m actually not sure what a matchup thread is anymore. I’ve seen people post videos of recent footage, and apparently that counts as one.

Correction: they used to have their own matchup forum here.

They closed it down due to not wanting to deal with toxic players or spend the effort moderating it because they had their hands full with the sPvP forum and esports. After that, no matchup threads on the “general” WvW forum (ie this) was allowed to further make the point.

So its simple really. First rule of WvW, you dont talk about WvW.

Let see… OP just asking if this joke called “linking system” is gonna continue or if WvW Team is already working in a system that encourages players to keep playing WvW -and new players to join it-… and suddenly, the message is locked by “match up thread” reason?

I had sent a mail to the forums team via the provided address regarding the machup thread thingy 2 weeks ago after seeing increasing numbers of posters getting touchy about it and myself getting annoyed about it. Gaile Gray replied and then updated the thread about it. If you guys still think is questionable, do send in mail as making a thread about it is unlikely to get an answer as stated in the forums rule (iirc).

Removal of Match up threads was a grave mistake. Since the removal of the match up threads the toxicity level grew exponentially to the point where I fear that the toxicity clouds Arena Nets views on the wants and needs of the games community.

I never played an MMO without a toxic community. I believe Arena Net just should have moderated better than instead of cutting out match up threads and having the WvW community resort to other means. In my opinion this is poor management and terrible.
