JQ/SoR/BG been fighting each other forever except that one week. Getting pretty boring expecting new matchups. . .

You want to stomp some server? You are bored because of even fight?
You want to be like Fort Aspenwood this week? I am sure they would like to fight same enemy forever if the enemy is even to them.
At least 7 matches from Eu want to.
Really, I’m not joking. Yes I want to be like Fort Aspenwood this week. Something different is something, but fighting the same guild zergs for 4 months is not appealing. So truly, no joke.
meanwhile, the servers that get matched up with much higher rated servers are complaining bitterly about it. the “Server Match up is terrible” thread has 16 pages of complaints about it.
they don’t want to get matched up outside of their “tier” (whatever meaning can be applied to that term nowadays).
it seems like, with the server populations we have now, we have two alternatives:
1. close matchups without any variety (leading to boredom)
2. varied matchups that involve a lot of blowouts (leading to bitterness)

So you are saying t1 and t2 should never fight each other because there is simply no way a t2 server can beat a t1. And thats where we disagree.

Sure we do, but one tier difference, not 3 or 4 tiers difference. No joking RoF is playing Gandara again this week. That is rank 12 vs 21, and that is again. We played them a couple of weeks ago too.
We’ve also had Vabbi/Fow twice in the last few weeks. That’s rank 21 vs 25/26 and that is just as stupid as being rolled by blob server with a much larger population and night coverage.
At rank 21 we would be more than happy to fight anything from rank 18 to 24, but we’re not happy with the crap we’ve been handed recently. The range of the RNG is far too large.

me? I’m not saying any such thing. I’m on a server that’s playing a cross-tier match (we’re #9 this week, playing against #4 and #5) and we’re having a blast even though we know we don’t have the coverage needed to actually win.
I’m just saying that most players will find something to complain about either way. When we had stagnation, there were complaints. Now we have variation and people are still complaining.
In the case of NA tier 1, right now the only real solution in the current system is to try to unstack and spread your population out across more servers. The #1, #2 and #3 servers find themselves fighting each other over and over mostly because their ratings are so much higher than all the other servers. Their ratings are higher mostly because servers without that kind of coverage generally can’t compete.
The big problem is, you really want to be able to ensure that similar numbers of players move off of all 3 of SoR, BG and JQ. While a lot of players wouldn’t mind tier 1 being closer in strength to tier 2, I’m sure nobody from tier 1 wants to move to a lower tier and discover that one of the other servers stayed stacked and is now the undisputed king of the hill.

That’s why I think ANet’s best solution is to reduce the “Map Cap” to 60 per Server.
People will transfer off the top Servers when they simply can’t get in to play without multiple hour queues and we would see less lag in large fights
So lets look at history of matches.
SoR-JQ-BG – similar points, sometimes is SoR better, sometimes is JQ.
At week 23 Dragonbrand moved to T1 and SoR to T2. What did we have?
BG dominated, JQ second with loose of 110k points. Dragonbrand last with loose of 175k points. Huge difference.
But SoR is in T2 fighting two servers. It should not be so easy because against BG and JQ they dont have enought points.
T2 : SoR 296k points., TC loose of 125k points, SoS loose of 160k points.
Week 24:
T1: SoR 234k points, BG loose of 15k points, JQ loose of 50k points. Not so bad taking in mind week 23.
Week 25 Blackgate won. After series of defeats. They did it.
Week 26 SoR won again.
Week 27: BG is winning right now. May just turn.
Wo what are you complaining? If SoR was against T2, they stomped them. JQ had a chance with missing SoR and they let BG won. I know you want to fight T2, where you can win. But this system did not helped you to achieve that. And is hurting lower servers in a big way.
Actually it is hurting you as well. TC had a change to be closer. Tey were gaining points is last few weeks and are 100 points lower. But new system takes 40 points down just because EB had a bad draw(or good,different ways to look at it) and TC did not stomp them completely.
TC must not left any tower to EB or they will loose points. Just because rank 9 is with rank 5 and 4.
And the last point: you wnt to face lower servers to stomp them, or face better servers and try to win? You let SoR and BG win. In war there is a name for soldier who stops fighting and go away and leave fellow soldiers on battlefield.
On RoF we are trying even agains much much bigger enemy. And thats why we are holdin and we really would like a chance to fight simmilar enemies. Because there is no Tier 0, you only can go down. And you want to go down.We want go up. But step by step. Not challenge T4 while we are in T7. (2 weeks already we are holding against their hordes)
There was only 1 problem with the old rating system :
- The differences between the average rating of two adjacent tiers were too big.
It was as simple as that. The difference was between 100 and 250 ratings in general. While there was a lot of move up and move down in the tiers with only 100 ratings of difference there was practically no change in the tiers with 175 rating and more of difference.
So, the solution was simple again.
- Automatically adjust the rating of each server each week to have a difference of X between each adjacent tier.
Notice how both the problem and the solution could be contain in only 1 sentence each?
Anyway, they choose a different solution. I doubt it will ever stabilize like they predicted because server strength varies and it takes too much time to stabilize the rating. My bet is that the strength of the servers will change faster than the system can randomly adjust the rating. So we will always have crappy match up.
Why not just guest on another server for the week? Didn’t a guild from SoR do that when they were out of T1 that one week?

I would agree with this – but not entirely. These are the two alternatives IF a computer does the matchmaking.
There is a third alternative. A human being sets the matches.
Anyone who has been paying the slightest bit of attention to WvW could sit down right now and make a months worth of matches that overall would be 100 times better than the last months matches. Or the month before that… etc…
Is it going to be perfect every week – no because the server strengths are different. But it would be a lot better than any matchmaking system done by a computer.

Why not just guest on another server for the week? Didn’t a guild from SoR do that when they were out of T1 that one week?
You cannot wvw when you guest. They either had a second account and used it or they paid gems to transfer when they went to JQ for that week.
