Materials
Its probably one of several reasons players have left WvW. But you should also consider that these materials are available only in specific HoT map, and thse HoT maps require large number of players too to complete the meta, gain xp and drops. Even now, HoT subforum is full of people complaining those maps are empty and they can not do anything. If those materials would be available in WvW, more players would start to avoid HoT maps, making it even more difficult for remaining players there.
There is number of things anet could do to improve current situation:
- make those materials tradeable
- increase drop rate
- reduce stupidly high costs of GH upgrades
I guess it’s part of the problem but not the biggest part by far. Basically you sacrifice 1 or 2 raid days for pve. It’s annoying but shouldn’t make a huge difference in the end.
PS: anet took 3 years to fix wvw achievements. Let’s make bets on Guild hall upgrades…

I think the guild upgrade changes may have turned some people off of the game. HoT seems to have brought a lot of disappointment to an already bored WvWvW playerbase. I know it’s made me look at this company differently as they have had the nerve to take away what players have earned and put them behind a pay wall and then a grind wall and act like its new content. Small guilds are fresh out of luck if they want to run a +5 supply ever again.
