Mechanics induce rage or accusations of hacks
Offense is about momentum and portals allow for maneuver and momentum. Thieves can be survived and destroyed with good coordination. We had a 4 thief team hitting our ten man team last night for close to 45 minutes of play. On more then one occasion we were able to kill all 4. We were able to take 3 camps and two towers while skirmishing on the move with these thieves and had a enemy guardian and warrior join in a few times as well. There was also a mesmer thief pair in hills that took us 5-10 minutes to eliminate they were very good.

Thieves and mesmers are annoying. Thieves kill you out of nowhere, Mesmers can hide in a keep and port in an army one you leave. However, these aspects make the game interesting. I have trouble with the idea that the game should be dumbed down even further because people can’t be bothered to sweep properly or get some toughness, travel in a group, etc..
When people get outplayed they always scream hack. That doesn’t mean we should eliminate the possibility that they be outplayed.
Eh, I think the complaints about hacks are to a fair degree caused because there are a lot of hackers lately.
I’ve seen speed hackers at least three or four times since the season started, and not at all for months before that. They’re really obvious too, engineers that teleport every 1/4 second and such.

But then you report them. You don’t remove “blink”
I don’t know what the other thread had, but I’ve definitely seen Mesmers/Rangers “bug” through gates/walls. They were server-mates, so this isn’t “rage” or an “accusation”, but simply a fact.
Yeah, I’ve seen it too. But I’ve also seem some of them scramble like kitten to get out of the keep without dropping a portal. Bugs happen, it depends how people react when it does.
if they drop a portal or take the keep, report them for hacking and move on.
stealth makes people rage in every game

if anything pve spoils players, NPCs are designed to die, most of them will just stand and take beating so players get used to “winning” fights and straight foward encounters…
right now i just finished tpvp match, i soloed war and ranger by stealing axe from war and using it while ranger and war mindlessly spammed their bow spells on me (which reflected obviously) and killed themself basically… i was told thieves are OP, i am sure those guys will run to forums and cry how much dmg thieves do even though they killed themself with their own dmg

Thieves are good. Mesmer portals are good. If anything they should have had more creative classes/mechanics like these.
Hacks are hacks and rage is rage. I don’t see the connection except there are things that personally annoy you.

If it were just me, you’d have a point. But given the number of thief hate threads I’m not alone – far from it. Funny but I can’t find a QQ on Engi thread.
Imagine if in the beginning of the game, portals could not get people inside a structure that has its walls and gates intact. Then later in a patch, Anet made it so they could. The outcry would be so huge it’d probably take down the servers. “What? How can a portal let people in a keep when the walls and gates are all up? That’s crazy!”
I guess you missed the perplexity rune threads then since there’s pretty much only 1 type of engi now.
You may have a point that new players will always complain about thieves if only because their mechanics are so different from the other classes.
But I think thieves are fun to fight and help fill in a niche that WvW is lacking in: roaming and scouting. There’s no reason they shouldn’t exist just because a new player has to learn how they work. There’s complaints about plenty of other classes, and not just from new players.
The reason mesmer portals aren’t a problem is because the mesmer has to have access to the other side. Either it’s no issue if it’s an owned structure or careless oversight.
If I listed my own issues with WvW, in order of significance it would be:
1. Broken PPT and rewards system leading to karma train and no defense meta.
2. Snowball mechanics (bloodlust) that should be on the opposite end (outmanned buff) also leading to k-train and no defense meta.
3. Perplexity rune lack of ICD
