I’ve been thinking about how to make WvW more than just a zerg fest with no skill. Large groups have huge lag, and the most you can do is spam AoEs, stability and hope for the best.

So here’s an idea. Have some mechanism where a defending tower/keep can challenge an invading zerg to single combat! They send their champion. You send yours. If the invader wins, they get the keep (not sure what happens to those inside), or the gates are broken. If the defending champion wins, the keep/tower is safe for a period of time from that server – say 15 minutes or something. Details can be worked out.

The option to challenge to single combat cannot be available every time since an entire world can be held by just a handful of people. Rather, this option should be bought using something that requires “in-world” work like badges or something. Maybe limit the time period too. Like I said, the details can be worked out.

The idea is to make it less zerg intensive and more fun. Spectators can stand around (temporarily unable to kill each other, or everyone gets the invulnerable buff) and watch the outcome of the fight. There’ll be cheering, advice, goading…whatever!

A lot will be need to be ironed out to make it balanced, but what do you think of tkittenential idea?

No, it would just generate drama for people deciding who fights. Also doubt 20 people would agree to sit and watch, and let one guy play the game instead.

But, even if you found a way to make it work, I doubt Anet would implement something of the sort, it would be much more complicated than the bugs they are having troubles to fix already..

But, even if you found a way to make it work, I doubt Anet would implement something of the sort, it would be much more complicated than the bugs they are having troubles to fix already..

Maybe each server can have a designated champion for a while. Like I said, the details can be worked out to make it simpler and not complex. I just…want some more fun and skill based play rather than mindless zerging.

Maybe a 2v2 deathmatch? We can get creative!

With good siege placement, 5 ppl can chase of a mindless zerg that use no tactics at all with ease. Against a tactical zerg you just need to out smart the attackers.

Take your friends and try to actually defend a tower for an evening or a few hours and you will see what I mean.
