Until Anet implements anything like this, the only solution is what they´ll gain alot of money from without any effort on their side, transfers.
The result is the same, active wvw. Equal numbers and coverage needs to be tweaked by talking to the leaders of the communities of the servers..
All original ties to the servers everyone used to play on gets cut as they transfer to the new server.
The only real connection someone has to their server (thanks to megaservers in PVE) is WvW.
Supposedly there´s hundred thousands active players in the game, a server can host approx 500 players online at the WvW maps at any given time, active WvW players throughout all of NA might be a few thousands of players (from around the world playing at various times), same goes to EU..
The ONLY solution right now unless Anet merges WvW servers is to transfer and gather all active WvW players into the golden league servers.
in PVE there is no point in belonging to a certain server.
in WvW im fighting for MY server since the beginning.

Well, I’m also from FoW, and I’m a bit opposed to the thought..
As pointed out above: In WvW you fight for YOUR server..
If it should merge into megaservers, then I won’t feel as connected to that ‘world’ as I do now on FoW (although nevertheless we only have 4-5 active WvW players)..

The EU and NA mixed bit seems extremely unlikely (the character data is saved at a different place or such, which is also the reason you can’t guest between them and they have different megaservers). Apart from that it seems like a decent idea to me. You’d have to force some balance of course (at some point friend guilds might have to be placed on different teams to prevent on team being too big).

WvW would turn into the same garbage karma train as eotm. Why defend or spend money upgrading and sieging for a bunch of pugs?
The megazerker doesn’t even work right in pve (if you want to do stuff with your guild you have to spend half an hour to taxi them into the same instance) it would completely ruin WvW.

My Suggestion is indeed to turn the Game into a Guild versus Guild. Or perhaps an Alliance versus Alliance. There should be four to five different Matchups (AvBvC and DvEvF and GvHvI etc) for EU and NA mixed! (They would run parallel in assigning the alliance, but play at the same time on the same map
Not sure exactly what you mean by EU and NA mixed, but are you suggesting that the EU and NA are to run on the same servers so they can fight each other?
Because that’s pretty much what killed ESO AvA in the EU. I couldnt imagine a worse way for GW2 to die. The difference between 20ms and 200ms in latency is basicly the difference between playable and unplayable in an action oriented MMO.
ESO is going the alliance vs alliance route. I think if you started this game that way, it would be okay. But now a lot of people have a lot invested in server identity. And WvW being the last bastion of of any form of server identity after the advent of megaservers?
Probably going to get a lot of pushback for going that route.
Although I think, eventually, wvw will likely end up that way.

Regardless of “wait times” each map should have a cap on how many people are allowed in WvW equal to the lowest force on that map. So if BGBL had 20 people on, only 20 people from the other teams would be allowed in, thus 60 people in total.

Making regular WvW another set of EotM maps where no one cares about who they play with or anything other than EXP/hour gained, would be the final nail in the coffin for WvW and the communities that continue to play it.
No. The solution is far more simple; Merge the 12 lowest population servers into 3 or 6 newly named realms. This would give these realms a chance to maintain a community without messing up the game further for everyone else. Plus you get to maintain transfers.

Although I wouldn’t put it totally even (X from the lowest server, a max of 10 + 1,5*X from the others – how else to act when nobody is on the map?). And the remainder of the WvW population can join their K-train in EotM..

With megaserver they need to merge at least 12 wvw servers. Arenanet know so well how dead is wvw in lowers tiers. Or offer free transfer to upper tiers, because is your responsability make this game playable, and thrust me, in lowers tiers, if you only do wvw, is not playable at all.

WvW is playable on lower tiers, it just takes some dedication. Unless your opinion of WvW is blob wars?

Not blob wars. But in lower tiers is pvd wars.
I am in ET right now. I was in SF, SBI (when it was strong) HOD (when everyone transfer to it), in ET right now, if you wanna do wvw you should wait to the night. Take forever to find a descent fight, and you need to roaming like 30 or 40 min to find someone to fight in BLs. After Wednesday wvw die even in the night.
I am not talking about blob wars, but blobwars is funnier than pvdoor.
I was in BP for almost a year, now I’m in T1 for a month. T1 has real WvW. T4~T5 hasn’t. It’s like a completely new game. And forget about “oh my god, it’s just 250 men blob everywhere in a lag fest!!1!eleven!!”. It offers everything. You can roam, you can havoc, you can have large scales fights. 24/7.
T1, and from what i heard T2, are what WvW is supposed to be.

Would make more sense to set transfer price according to server rank (bottom is free, moves up in price the higher up you go) and remove the top 3 bandwagon servers.

Terrible idea. Once megaservers launched I lost a lot of desire to play PvE…it just felt so hollow and boring. It feels weird being in maps with a bunch of strangers from other servers. I love the feeling of community that I get in the WvW maps. I’m fighting for my server and don’t want to just be a color fighting with a bunch of randoms.

I understand the feeling of community and blablabla, but you can divide a TINY community into 24 servers. What is the result? a lot of ppl WHO WANNA PLAY stack in few servers, the rest of the server are DEAD. That is the reality and the reason of megaservers, because, in low population servers the pve maps was empty. And the same happen with WvW.
Arenanet SHOULD merge dead server NOW. There almost no ppl playing there. When you play in kitten, t3, you realize how bad is the situation of the bottom tier.
You all realize that Megaserver pretty much Cluster-effed WvW and guilds in PvE. But, it really solved the empty map problem for new players and people leveling in 5 or less groups. Solve one problem create another…
EtoM is a perfect example of how very bad WvW would be for guilds if megasucker was implimented there. Until Anet make it possible for entire guilds to stay together megasucker is going to well… suck. I don’t see how server identity is going to exist going forward.
Merge servers…. I think that is what they are trying to make happen with the transfers, but they probably think they are trying to “balance them”. The tournaments and transfers really buggered that.. Spoon
WvW needs an overhaul as the game play has become really stale. I don’t know if Megaserver is the right answer until I try it but I am very glad to be in a tier that has relatively equal servers fighting. That is MUCH more important to me than which server I am fighting with.
At the end of the day, I just want good fights.
