First log on this morning and pve is looking bristling with people, gg. Simple question: does the megaserver prevent people from currently running WvW matchups being zoned into the same instance in pve?

I can foresee issues with calling for reinforcements from pve and general server organisation if the /m chat crosses that border. Servers with low WvW pop need all the help we can get and i cant see anything about this on dulfy etc.

Thats…actually a pretty serious problem. Where are we supposed to go to say “20 golems garrison watergate” on servers who rely heavily on militia?

a) currently megaserver affect only 1-15 zones.

when was the last time you called for reinforcements on 1-15 map?

b) as far as i understand ( i might be wrong) capital cities which have their own instance will not be part of the megaserver and will be “home server” only.
when LA will be rebuilt, you will be able to spam LA chat with WWW calls.

As the plan is to extend to other zones it is a valid concern anet needs to bare in mind.

And without a source for B I’d still like a link or confirmation of how that will work.

Edit: actually, point B is demonstrably false; I was zoned in Black Citadel with FR and DE guilds so it is affecting capital cities right now.

Valid concern in OP, but OP can’t have experienced it yet. A “bristling” PvE is actually your home server + guests being more active post-patch.

What you are seeing at vigil keep is the old overflow system. And it was constant OF on YB because of the patch. I ended up seeing way in more divinity reach than I ever have as peeps were using the black lion armorer. We resorted to shout outs at both locs for the trait unlock bosses.

Ppl could spy on main hub with guesting megaserver not going to changes this or even make it worst. Also it kick in for low pop zones not high pop zones so if your saying this in a high pop zone then it should be ok unless there a guesting spy and if your saying this in a low pop zone your doing it wrong.

You guys are a bit behind. We had a dev confirm some maps last night but official forum post with about 6 more maps added since midnight last night:

We want to give you an update on our rollout of the megaserver technology. It is progressing nicely, and we have turned it on on the following maps:
- The Grove
- Heart of the Mist
- Black Citadel
- Timberline Falls
- Southsun Cove
- Rata Sum
- Straits of Devastation
- Fields of Ruin
- Brisban Wildlands
- Hoelbrak
- Iron Marches
- Blazeridge Steppes
- Dredgehaunt Cliffs

As a reminder – once we turn megaserver on for a specific map, you will not be automatically placed in the new map. You have to leave the map and enter it again. You will also not be able to join your friends until they do the same.
We are continuously monitoring the process and will continue rolling the tech out to more maps based on that. Have fun playing!

The only good thing is that Gendarren is still not turned on which is the psuedo LA hub right now.

The traits themselves show where to go. I know Lyssa, Grenth, and High Wizard at Arah are 3. (Ship of sorrows in straights of devastation is another)

Yes. A couple people from TC reported that they were in the same overflow as some BG players earlier today. Given the current circumstances with that match, the results weren’t pretty.

In that case there needs to be some additional thinking on megaserver; blocking /join and /invite to enemies presumably was done for a reason and megaservers will do nothing but offer a way around that.

How these things don’t get thought of for features in development for months….it’s cool to communicate cross server but there needs to be a limit for current WvW matchups.

I’m pretty sure this issue never even crossed Anet’s mind when designing megaservers. So likely going to whatever PvE zone is the equivalent of Lion’s Arch will soon no longer be possible.

There doesn’t need to be a limit in cross-server communication for servers currently in the same WvW matchup.. it would just be nice if writing in /team chat in a PVE maps lead to the message be seen just by your server population.
I reckon that /team chat was not built for that so it would be nice to have a chat channel that works like that.

End of the story.
There does not need to be any limitation.

If we consider WvW as end game content, then, are there many end-gamers not in guilds?

Therefore, we will continue to get the word out about needing help in WvW across the guild channels and by hopping across TS channels.

I can’t imagine ever reaching out for PvE playing, uplevel, non-guild players for help in WvW. They are rally-bots.

A couple possible solutions (one or the other; not both):

1) When in a PvE zone, using /t chat broadcasts only to members of your own home world.

2) The Vigil Keep/Gendarran Fields will be home world-specific instances; you can take comfort knowing your text chat is being read only be members of your own home world.

This happens quite a bit. It’s other rally-botting types that do it, but it gets done. PvE zones are also a major source of PvX guild recruitment, where the real intent is to build a bigger rally-zerg for the rally-boss’ regular “WvW raid”.

Being one that laughs every time I see guild recruitment pasted into overflows, I welcome these facts: popcorn equipped.

Once again they should have not included main cities in the megaservers, leave them for their own home servers so that players and guilds have a place to do player events, rally calls, recruitment etc. But seeing that this affects wvw, I’m sure it will once again fall on deaf arenanet ears.

It was also a bad idea moving lion’s arch hub into vigil keep and gendarran fields, but whatever.

That or build in some other form of home-server communication. Otherwise, they’re just diluting the impact and relevance of selecting a home.
