What exactly is the use of mercenaries (Ogres, for example) in WvW? I’ve been playing WvW for about a month now on IoJ, and from what I’ve seen is that when they are allied with our side, all they do is sell us blueprints and act as a momentary delay for an enemy zerg as they go through their camp.
Reading the wiki, it seems like they should be actively launching attacks on supply camps and maybe even assisting sieges. Do they actually do this and I’m just missing it?

They do, they also contest towers/camps which without scouts in those places may seem like an attack from another server.

They do attack camps and can usually with no player interference kill all the camp npcs if the camp is unupgraded…from what Ive seen only dredge and quaggan have contested keeps/towers

It should be possible to hire real mercenaries. Give each server a “super commander” with rts view(let players above a certain WXP rank elect that super commander) and a mercenary cap / limit.

Then let him hire with gold or items(players could donate gold and/ or cheap crafted or from drops obatined weapons). And let him use them in rts view.

Oh god no. Horrible Idea. Remove as much PVE as possible from WvWvW

That would be WvWvW then since they belonged to a server. PvE are the PvE mobs that really are only environment and not controlled by a world. Also the Jumping Puzzle some events and champ mobs and the vistas, pois and stuff. This should be removet then.

They’re important when dealing with small scale group fights. When it comes to zergs, nothing really matters in WvW.
