Mesmer Portal. The Mesmer utility skill Portal now has a maximum # of times it can be used before it disappears. This means that 1 Mesmer can no longer send an infinite # of allies through a portal. The current # is 20, which may come down more later. We still want the Mesmers to feel cool for having such a powerful ability, but we also want to put a limit on the # of players a defending team needs to worry about coming out of 1 Mesmer Portal, especially in WvW.

I don’t really like this change since it weakens offensive strikes. However, walls don’t instant-repair now so I guess it’s a fair trade.

I’ve never had to port 20 people at once in the jumping puzzle anyway.

My vote and the only way to fix this is to make it, Portal works for Party Members only. You guys can whine and snort about it all you want but that would solve a lot of crap in WvW. And I mean crap, now that we have to deal with uber speed invisitards portals need to dissapear.

I am really opposed to nerfings that punish organization or pure skill…the portal is a great tool and requires considerable effort to use effectively. why would it be nerfed as opposed to the back-to-back 5-digit damage of some abilities against a full build with toughness as a secondary stat…that to me is garbage and promotes face-rolling keyboards…100% disapproval on this nerf!

No more superior siege?
Guilds cant put more than 10 on each map?
Using a third party voice com is considered a hack and will cause you to get banned?
Food buffs no longer works in WvW?
All players will get 1 set of gear to wear in WvW?
All players will get the same 5 skills to use in WvW?

The options is many Kittennet The next move is yours.

Edit: No more turning on the commander tag – Why would we have pugs following us, taking up a portal slot from a geared and specced guildie that is on voice coms?

Great way of making more distance between the casual and the core WvW gamers.

Yeah that really is difficult communication and coordination, isn’t it? This change is fine and actually promotes communication and coordination, rather than just having everyone stand on a badge spamming F.

I am in favor of any change that murders cheese and crutches. This is such a change. Adapt to it and be better for it.

Think you’re over reacting just a bit I think this change was mostly due to ArenaNets poor game engine and being unable to really fix the culling issue. I don’t like the change but was clearing over powered with how the culling worked. Now the problem is getting people to not use the portal is you aren’t in a golem

Why are whining about this? I’m a mesmer and I use my portal very often. We’ve already found a way around this in my guild. If you have more than 20 people, then odds are there is another mesmer if that group. Have THAT mesmer lay an entrance before going into the portal, then lay an exit on the way out. Then you have 40 people. Rinse and repeat…Odds are if you don’t have another mesmer, you won’t have more than 20 people. This isn’t that big of a hit to us, it was done probably just to make the naysayers be quiet for a day.

Thus the slippery nerf slope gets steeper. This is how it was in Rift as well, and last time i logged into that game there was 1/5 of the servers still up from when my friends and I left it after a year of constant PVP nerfs. Keep going ANET, I’m sure there will still be a few die hard players here in 6 months when you take away swords, staffs and daggers and issue nerf bats and rubber helmets for WvW.

The only issue I have with portal is the bombing.

Bombing could be solved if putting down the portal exit had a long induction and broke stealth on use.

Ample time for the mesmer to render and kill it before he lays it down.

This is a buff to mesmer profession – just like the recharge duration increase. Mesmers will be in higher demand in WvW. Better give up your other useless professions and roll a mesmer.

In the next patch you can expect portal to carry the mesmer only. But by then WvW will have only mesmers playing so it makes no difference. :P

Since everyone who portal bombed would complain about how much it lagged them out, so it wasn’t really an advantage over other people.

Doesn’t this just help keep that lagging under control?
So all those “super organized” groups who boasted about how difficult and complicated portal bombing was, now you can use your “super organization skills” to do Chain-Portal bombing, where the last person to go through the portal is a Mesmer who drops another Portal and so on attacking in staggered waves of 20 ppl.

Yup sounds like an awesome Portal buff to me.
That will help take full advantage of all the organized tactics groups have developed Portal Bombing so far.

Do you see how many mezmer portal bombs fail? Fail due to mezmer being spotted on the run in, failed due to the portal being seen and called out in VOIP and aoe’s laid on top of it? Failed because the 25 people who step into the portal emerge in the middle of 50 players who wipe them? I’ve seen the best in 3 Tier2 servers fail, and succeed at portal bombs. Instead of allowing things to settle, allowing tactics to counter portal bombs be developed over time and implemented by the player base, you all cried for the nerf hammer. The nerf hammer is AOE my friends, it will blast all of us and it will hurt. Please for the love the game don’t encourage nerfs as the first weapon in your arsenal, let the steel in your hand sing, let your spells fly.

It was a fair fix. It didn’t destroy the ability, but it stopped the OP’ness of it. It is still powerful and will be used over and over, but at least it isn’t 40 players in one spot now…

It fixes nothing. Using the wall climb glitch (existing since launch), a mesmer can portal in up to 20 players from outside, right into the boss room. This flips the keep in less than 30 seconds.

20 people still is quite a lot to port, and I say that having a main being a mesmer. Honestly I was more disappointed by the range that you can use the portals since it doesn’t excplicitly state a distance on the skill description, but a time instead. In 1 minute I can travel a lot further than the range you can actually use it at.

A 20-man squad is workable. Seems Anet more did this to gain control over the portal situation. They can now more easily tweak portal as they see fit.

So in your “guild group” you have only one mesmer? The strongest class in the entire game for zerg fights? Tell one of your 14 thieves he should logg on his alt then.

For everything you now need a 2nd one, if you used 2 mesmers in a maneuver you now need 4 to do the exact same thing.

Or you’re one of the QQers that started QQing in the first place. I mean, if you’re really going to make a post like that we can go both ways.

I don’t see how putting a cap on portals will miraculously fix them or prevent people from “abusing” them… People will just use more mesmers. I can already think of tactics that are easier to execute with this cap and are probably even more annoying for the defending team.

As a mesmer who has portal bombed plenty of times I welcome this change and any further changes. It’s a bit ludicrous how easily successful portal bombs can be. I never felt like I was making a clever tactical move by spawning a zerg within a zerg. It’s just a messy way to ensure success.

I’ve been trying to use my portals in more interesting ways during larger battles, including porting people around the battlefield to gain tactical advantages (higher ground for ballistas behind the enemy etc) but very few people bite until I explicitly say “portal bomb”. Maybe by reducing the effectiveness of portal bombing, we’ll start to see some more interesting Mesmer portal play.
