I love the idea of the portals being a massive game changer, but is it fair that a single class being well used can change the entire fight? Do other classes deserve some sort of equilibrium skill or counter tactic? Maybe an ability to counter a mesmer portal in an area of x distance? But that’s just my two cents. Ideas? Opinions? If you’re here to flame, please go else where.

The mesmer can’t change the entire fight on his own. You need plenty of people with enough skill to coordinate with.
Run in and place a portal to only have one or two people follow you and you’re fodder.
The portal in itself does nothing.

So it’s properly better to ask whether a coordinated group, using group abilities, should have an advantage and well – I vote yes.

Also there’s plenty of ways to counter the portal, first off start by looking at the shiny thing on the ground and act accordingly.
Of course there’s an issue with rendering of enemies which are invisible, and that should be fixed, but that’s not a portal issue or group ability issue – it’s a game (IMO breaking) issue. And then there’s of course the people exploiting to move through keep walls, that should be fixed too (and exploiters banned hard), but that also is not an issue with the portal.

I agree culling needs to be fixed, but it’s an O(n^2) issue still. Though the people exploiting things in WvW aren’t really punished because no one is generally watching them. Though, that’s just what I’ve noticed on Darkhaven fighting lots of Goonies from Mag exploit various things.

Not if the mesmer didn’t exploit to get inside. If it’s an exploit; ban him. Otherwise it’s very much an organization issue. (baring the issue with the graphics of course)

I think mesmers need a bit of a nerf. Their portal ability is powerful. Their phantasms can kill siege located where other AoE won’t reach. They are also probably the best 1v1 class.

It does take coordination to move armies of people around, Mesmer portal or not, but it’s just getting old that there is ONE class in WvW that is clearly better than all the rest.

Yet another post complaining about Maguuma exploits form Darkhaven. Yet I haven’t heard anything from NSP or the people that fought us before. My goodness you all are sore winners.

Back to the topic at hand, mesmers aren’t the only absolutely critical class. At the very least, you have bubble guardians as well. There are more that are critical but not absolutely essential.

There is nothing wrong with Mesmer portals. However right now it may seem overpowered because even a small group can take a much much bigger group by surprise due to the culling issue.
When/if that gets fixed people will probably stop relying as much as they do now.

I like seeing a portal and invisible people instantly killing me.
Especially holding a inner gate with 40 people, to find out a mesmer snuck past the 30 people spamming aoe, then sneaking past the aoe again after casting the exit.

my question is, is the exit portal visible immediately after casting or does it appear after casting the entrance.

this would make a big difference in detection.

I feel like if a mesmer can sneak past that much AoE, then you have other problems. Also, the portal endpoints are shown immediately after casting.

If skipping walls is intended portals should be available for all players – not only for mesmers. For example as portal gun available from siege merchant.

Why not make all of the classes the same, while you’re at it? I don’t understand this argument. By your logic, everyone should have a guardian bubble ability too.

This only happens when you recently took the objective, and failed to secure the objective completely before moving on.

I like that, as it is a problem that highlights bad organization and can be instantly fixed with better communication and organization.

Portals can be used in any direction. They only have to run past your AOE once.
