Mesmer or Guardian?
Guardian is decent offense with the ability to heal and support through shields/bubbles.
A Mesmer can generally annoy and provide some support such as portals and reflecting attacks/conditiosns. A mesmer though can never outsupport a Guardian with regard to capability on the grand scale.
both seems fun try them in spvp so you can check all the skills
I can tell you this much about guardian.
Yes, your buffs are nice, but theyre on LONG cooldowns.
WubWub on your staff is like 24s, and your shouts are long.
Youll end up, basically, doing some buffs/bubbles here and there. Dropping walls. Doing minor snaring. And a lot of siege work in the zerg fests.
But youre a god at raiding parties.
I’ve tried both.
Guardian is nice and my current character because it looks great in heavy armour and has a big sword and lots of charges and aoe attacks. Poor range though, very hard to attack enemies on the top of a keep wall you are basically restricted to 2 attacks from the scepter and that’s it.
Mesmers have insane survivability with clones and illusions and stealths. I’ve tried one in WvW and even at low level I was virtually unkillable. The Mesmer also has more ranged attacks and is useful for taking out keep walls (although not as good as elementalist).
If support is your cup of tea then go guardian. In WvW my traits/slots give me multiple ways to heal and give my allies abilities like retaliation (currently OP with it’s affect on siege weaponry) and aegis. I can’t help you on the mes because I’ve only gotten my second character (Asuran Mesmer) to level 5. Hope that helps you!

both are pretty bad in WvWvW. fun,and quite effective, but you’ll not get many kill credits so your loot, exp and rewards will be low.
Mesmers – suffer from low burstdmg and lack of decent aoe (other than chaos storm), your ramp up time and ineffectiveness of shatters in keep warfare mean you wont get many kill credits.
But, in small scale skirmishes, caravans, supply camps etc, you are lethal and really really really hard to kill.
Guardians – lack of ranged options makes guardians pretty useless in keep warfare, support is fine, but you dont get credit for it.
Once the door goes down however, you become lethal and hard to kill, so if you can stand the boredom of waiting for a seige to break in, then you wil be fine.
Mesmer with offensive build is basicaly facerolling everyone.

Hey we (Guardians) can be pretty useful in keep warfare. Throwing bubbles, heals, aegis, retaliation, aoe cleanse fields. I mean we are not a one man army but we do have plenty of uses in that situation.

oh yes, you can be useful, very, its jsut not that exciting, and you dont get much credit (exp/loot/contribution) for it, if you are happy with that, then you can be really useful to your team in terms of winning, but your personal rewaards will be low.
same with mesmer. mesmers are possibly the best offensive support in the game (condition/boon stacking, traits to give illusions area buffs to teammates, timewarp!!!), but again, whilst that helps massively on a group scale, personal rewards for it will be low.

Honestly as a Mesmer, I’m not sure I entirely agree with your lack of AOE thing. Against stupid attackers/defenders, a Phantasmal warden is devastating, I usually pop one up on the wall, and right before it dies, shatter it to cause confuse on top of that, it does a good bit of damage to those around it, and then everyone starts killing themselves with confuse.
For less stupid attackers/defenders, phantasmal berserker is great against clusters, and is generally my primary damage dealing ability. I usually chuck one of those and an illusion at someone, then switch to staff, pop chaos storm and another illusion and shatter for confusion, as at that point the berserker is almost dead. massive hits with confuse at that point as I’m specced high in condition damage.
Yeah I’m not killing hordes of people outright, and I’m basically doing damage by proxy, but that’s the point of the class. I also don’t have to be in harm’s way while a lot of this is going on.
1v1 though you’re spot on, I definitely win more than lose 1v1… unless it’s a mesmer, then the fight goes on for friggin hours while we try to find each other.
