Anyone else notice an exploit involving Mesmers “Mesmer-portling” over fort walls and taking entire groups straight to the tower lord?
Some of my WvW buddies mentioned they can use it to jack orbs as well.
Is this a known exploit?
I know my guild retook Ogrewatch twice tonight because when they zerged it back the Mesmer hit and ported the 5 of us back in to take down keeplord
Something like this happened to us Maguuma when we were defending Dreaming Bay. Either a mesmer made a portal in behind the wall or they glitched their way through the part of the wall that’s open to the water. It definitely seems to defeat the purpose of basically every element WvW adds to combat if you can just bypass the use of siege to bring down fortifications, so yeah, pretty much an exploit.
That’s not an exploit. On the other hand, mesmers creating portals for zergs to appear suddenly somewhere near enemies, granting them temporal invisibility because the well known rendering issues, is an huge exploit.
I am not sure why Anet gave mesmers this tool, its basicly being abused so hard it hurts. not to mention those mesmers that uses hacks to get inside in the first place. Either fly/teleport hack and then portal others in. Or using some of the gate exploits.
And then there is the rendering issue as told, it just makes it even worse.
The skill is fine. ANet just needs to make sure it can’t be abused.
Hah. I did this to Maguuma today. It’s not an exploit. It’s working as intended. The problem is, people aren’t super careful to clear out keeps/towers/castles/whatever after they have taken it. If I hide, and someone doesn’t see me, of course I’m going to teleport my team in. Maybe you should be more careful next time.
Using it when a mesmer is left behind is just good tactics.
Having a mesmer get into the keep using an exploit and then using portal to get others in is also an exploit.
Id also argue that certain methods to perma-stealth groups inside for several minutes to allow the former should also be considered an exploit.
Mesmer portals are fine, its not Anet’s fault that you did not clean the tower up propperly and let a Mesmer stay behind the walls.
Next time you should make sure that there are no enemy mesmer behind the walls when you take the tower/keep.
but yes, the rendering issue is a problem with mesmer portals and large amounts of enemies, though a mesmer can make the whole zerge coming through invincible if they want to.
Exploit? Seriously? You get owned by something and suddenly it’s an exploit?
An exploit is taking advantage of something in the game that is not intended. A bunch of people going through a portal set by a mesmer sounds exactly as it’s intended.
It’s not like its always easy. If you’re smart, you’ll watch for the mesmer, if not. Well that’s your dang fault for not paying attention. Exploit? Please… Go cry some more.
I’m a mesmer. There seems to be a lot of confusion on how this works.
Mesmers can’t bypass walls, unless they’re already inside. Period!
We can, however, hide inside a keep that has just been taken and wait for the zerg to clear out. Once they all leave, we drop a portal inside and run out over the walls. Drop the other endpoint and move a group in.
It takes a lot of coordination – I’ve only had success doing this with guild groups in vent.

It’s not a simple tactic without proper coordination. And even with it, it can be easily countered if you simply make sure to clear out the keep or tower you just claimed.
im not a mesmer and i havent taken or lost a keep this way.
but to me it seems a lot of fun. they should leave it as it is.
