Given that Mesmer scepter gets all of its damage through confusion, is it now entirely useless in all formats? I’ve never seen anyone run scepter in sPvP, and only a few low-levels run it in PVE. It had some use in WvW, but given that all of the damage it does will be cut in half now, is it a completely pointless weapon?

Yes.

yup tried a few builds in spvp now with the weapons i have and scepter/focus involved. all of the builds are not condition based…scepter was terrible so far…still trying other builds, but looks like my abyssal scepter was not worth my time farming. well, maybe they buff it in a few months…:-(

Admittedly, confusion needed some nerf. I am not saying cutting the damage into half is the best way to do it but it sucks whenever I use a skill to remove confusion but it removes some other condition and I die due to 10 stacks of confusion on me because I am trying to get rid of confusion.
Also confusion proccing on skills like dodge traits was a little too much too handle. It’s not really that great to play against engineers or mesmers stacking tons of bleed/burn/poison on you when you are just there taking all the damage because confusion would kill you if you attempt something.

Don’t dodge roll then??? I have no problems dealing with confusion, I just save my cleanse skills for when I have large stacks of it. I don’t get how so many players struggle with such an easy to counter condition. I wish arena net would just come out and say “we are not nerfing confusion, just get better”

That’s not true at all, the scepter only get like 90% of its damage from confusion.
