Mesmers in Obsidian Sanctum Entrance
Arenanet really does need to do something about camping at the entrance of the jumping puzzle; I haven’t gone in there since it became its own map, but I do remember before that…
Sometimes I would be downed/dead on the ground before my computer even finished loading the map – this is because mesmers instantly pull me down while my game is still loading the area… I don’t even see anything but a loading screen and then my downed character.
They really need to add an invulnerability to the players up at the entrance (like all other spawns in WvW) if they haven’t yet.
Im also pretty annoyed at this.. As a 99.9% player of wvw, im already broke constantly. Most days I would pop into the JP to farm the ori ore that spawned there, collect the chest and maybe hang around enjoying some small scale pvp, which doesn’t involve building your character for standing on a small circle.
I may be wrong about this, but I cannot find that ori ore anywhere now in the puzzle.. does anyone know if it spawns elsewhere in the EB map ?

I’d recommend alongside the exit that invulnerability also be enabled while on the platform pad. It’d certainly help against players camping the spawn points, which is something to certainly discourage.

I agree it’s annoying – AG is facing two huge German servers who do not like a fair fight and always come in groups. That included yesterday’s camping at the JP’s entrance, and once I managed to get out, there was another group of mesmer/thief/guardian trolling right before the chest (at the way to the second fountain), killing any passerby, camping there for hours (!!??).
Ain’t no fun – it was my good way how to get them God forsaken badges per day for the Legendary (along with some running with commanders), now I cannot do that anymore. We’re in the group with those two God awful servers again, for another week…
I’d welcome at least that invulnerability buff up on those platforms, so I can prepare and see what can I – or cannot – do.

I know there were somewhat valid reasons for it, but I kind of hate how when I came back from a break a few months ago I noticed a lot of the little tricks in the puzzle were fixed. Mainly the shortcut in the arena room you could blink up on, and the fact that with a lightsource backpiece you could do the darkroom invisible. Mainly the latter, because now people CAN camp the arena with just 2-3 dudes and I can’t do anything about it. I used to be able to sneak by using expert jumping but thats gone.
It’s just kind of annoying because there WAS a counter to everything, but now it is extremely easy for a small group of people to COMPLETELY lock down the entire thing because of vastly vastly superior terrain advantages.

It is my hope for the EBJP to become the unofficial deathmatch map. No stupid kittening objectives to hold/cap, awesome terrain to fight on…just spread it out a bit more and I’d be set.

I am an engineer with non glass cannon build and I like healing, meaning my badges do not come easily neither quickly. Running small groups, running zergs, I can get about 10 a day. If I am lucky.
And no, I ain’t got several hours a day to run WvW. I’ve got a family to tend to and I’ve been working on my legendary for months.
Even if I did only the jumping puzzle every day (which I don’t), it’d take me around 40-50 full days to get them badges.

This could all be fixed by making the JP an armistice zone like I and many others have suggested before, but whatever, nobody listens to me. I’m somewhat I a jumping purist when it comes to puzzles- I don’t attack people and find it ridiculous that people camp the puzzle. No, the “preventing you from getting siege” excuse is not valid- supply is the bottleneck for siege, not blueprints. You know you’re just there to farm badges from unsuspecting jumpers.
Seriously, make it an armistice zone, and these problems go away.

Yes yes, very fair most of the time. This is what I see 9 out of 10 visits in the JP after the update. This group ain’t travelling; they’re standing there, camping. They don’t let you start, nor reach the fountain (duh!).
But oh well. It’s pvp, right… reeks of certain pvp realms in WoW at the moment over there; which is not a good thing.
I’ll just knock it off and suffer it through the week, hope AG drops a tier.

Its a jumping puzzle that is no longer part of WvW there should be no combat at all, all the combat you need to do to get access to this area is in EBG, why should you have to fight a server for control of a keep to get access to this area only to have the other group sitting sniping you before you log in,
The nodes where also removed from this map I see, there was no Ori in there last night.

Indeed, the screenshot I’ve posted is usually the first filter group. There’s more often than not at least one or two another one like these later in the puzzle, yesterday they were even fighting in the middle of the dark room.

I don’t really get the “fun” people are having in there. Ganking people that still watch a loading screen is the lowest form of satisfaction I know of. I petty those people spending hours pulling down others. After a while noone will visit that JP and the ganksters/griefers will move on to some place else to farm badges, wxp, and dance on corpses. I think it was a bad move. People say it better for EB, but people who go to the JP still go through EB to get there. JP will be deserted in a few months time.

It would be packed solid and actually finishing it would be mental hard. Maybe require an armored escort.

This outlines everything that is the problem with the Pvp in the jp. Make it a spot where those of different servers are friendliest, even allow cross-world chat.

Once again, Mesmers pulling = exploits.
Holy balls stop calling every single thing that is unfair or that you don’t know how to counter an exploit. Playing the game is an exploit, everyone should be banned.

My level 9 engineer gets 10 badges every half of an hour running with a zerg. Do you just not attack enemies at all or something?
I agree, this is wrong regardless of game mode. The people defending this are little more than bad and/or lazy players, who don’t want to have to actually work to earn PvP related rewards, so they sit on their lazy butts in a jumping puzzle for easy kills.
Sorry, you shouldn’t get an easy button because you’re too lazy and/or bad to accomplish anything fairly.

I hope that when this goes live, it’s implemented in such a shortsighted way that those exits take you back to the keep — that way I can sit in the JP with portal on my bar if my keep is about to be taken and then take the portal back after the situation cools down there.

If you keep getting camped, don’t go there. It’s unnecessary to play, and it IS a pvp zone. You don’t need to go to the JP, it’s merely a convenience to get siege and badges without engaging in WvW. So, if you keep dying, leave and go back later….if you die so much you break your armor from them camping you, it’s 100% your fault.

I am a SOS mesmer and I will continue to gank other servers in the JP. Why you ask? Because its WVW, PVP, Server vs Server. I love how all of you are complaining about us mesmers in the JP ganking yet thiefs roam the map freely ganking innocent players with almost infinite stealth. Get over it. If you want an easy map go to PVE. WVW is mean’t to be tough.
All I understood from this was: Please nerf paper. Scissors is fine. Love from rock.
Also +1 for invulnerability at the -> EB jumping puzzle spawn points. The PVP should be in the puzzle, not at camping the spawn. Even though I have no issues with it personally. I do see the problem for others.

Obsidian Sanctum is NOT a neutral zone. All servers are still enemy’s…Making the platforms a invulnerable are would give you a safe place to be right when you zone in. You can’t just jump back up there. Excluding mesmer portals and the WP.

Neutral as in no one owns it, like all of wvw. Anything can be taken. Exception your spawn points. Why? Because it would create a WVW wide imbalance if we could cut you off at your spawn. However, as the jp is a luxury or convienance as mentioned above, camping the spawn point doesn’t create a imbalance to your servers ability to win in WVW. The jp doesn’t count for points. Get over it. The invuln. argument is moot. If you want a “safer” JP go do the PVE jps.

lol learn some stability? If you get yanked off while you’re still loading how in the heck are you supposed to put stability up? Your logic is mind blowing at the least. You sir have won the internet.

Heres a suggestion… anet could simply put up a railing around the top of your spawn in location . mesmers would no longer be able to drag you off the edge with that raised section ( like some of the towers have when you want to defend from the top). Quick fix – exit portals not really needed . Just a thought.
This won’t prevent the problem. Invulnerability needs to happen on the platforms, otherwise, Mesmers will just group up and chain pulls back to back to get you over the railing just like they do on towers. Last time I was defending a tower in EB, I was yanked by multiple Mesmers from my arrow cart all the way to the other end of the tower without enough time in between pulls to get a cast off to gain stability. I actually got back inside the tower, but the little lip didn’t keep me from being pulled off after that many yanks.
Invulnerability on the spawn zone in the jump puzzle is the right thing to do, like all other WvW maps. Gaining siege from the jump puzzle gives a team an advantage, and so like other WvW maps balance must be ensured.
I main a thief, so I don’t have to worry about this.
Anyways, I’m not sure whether I would agree that these tactics be allowed in the JP or not.

I believe making the area on the pedestal an invulnerability area(similarity how the spawn areas in the main wvw maps are) fixes the problem with spawn campers and prevents pulling people from the pedestal .
Also, where did the ori nodes go? The once per day per account nerf was bad enough.
Agreed! There’s no good reason for them to be removed. If they are concerned about too much farming put the nodes in harder to get locations. Such as high parts of the jump puzzle requiring some of the jump puzzle to be done to get them completed.
Seriously, make it an armistice zone, and these problems go away.
If you don’t want to fight in a Jump puzzle there are 25+ jump puzzles you can do in PvE….
Personally I believe JP should be treated like another map in WvW
-Spawns should be protective, preventing loading players being killed/pulled before they have a chance to react and allowing someone to get the lay of the land before stepping into the fray.
-Adding support items (anvil, merchant) would encourage players to stay and defend the puzzle.
-Putting some sort of indicator to allow people to know if your team has control. Although it can cause some problems if it always says you don’t have it.
-Put rewards throughout the puzzle to encourage completion of each part. (chests, ori nodes, etc..)
-While we’re on the topic can we make the jp chest refresh every 23 hours(instead of 24)? If I wanted to do the puzzle every day I have to do it later than when I did it last time. Eventually I am forced to skip it one day.
What It boils down to, The Jump puzzle should be something people want to do, not something you do every day for loot. Now that it’s separated from EB Anet has an opportunity to turn this into something that can be really fun I just hope they don’t let to slip by.

That’s subjective. I’ve finished all gifts and even have the precursor, just the Gift of Mastery left, namely badges.

You will never know beforehand what people are going to do with what you serve them. Players come up with all sorts of things and play different than intended .. sometimes to the better, sometimes not.

If you would read well and use your thinking powers, you could have noticed that the main problem was not being able to enter due to dieing while the loadscreen is still up or shortly after without any possibility to react.
An invun. player would have the choice to carry on, and then it would be up to him to get along through the puzzle and shouldn’t be complaining. As that choice doesn’t exsist, I haven’t entered the puzzle in ages. I would like to get the puzzle done once though, as it is a part of the game. So advising people to do a different puzzle isn’t a legitimate answer. If it would exsist as a none PvP jp, I’d have been there.
I don’t even mind a 1vs1 or 1vs2 (I’ve had them in there before, also 1vs5 etc. ofc without a chance^^), hell even campers futher on in the puzzle are different to campers who don’t even let their opponent enter and orientate. Imo such behavior has nothing to do with pvp rather than poor social behavior and lack of skill probably, too.
Camping the entrence on a bl is also a different story, as it has three entrances and you can team up to defend urself.
Come to think of it a possible solution could also be random entrances, which would harder to camp.

no it really is beyound easy to get 500 badges. its as simple as leveling a necro to 20 get increased marks and tagging enemy zergs ( just like you did for the t6 mats). can do it on a staff ele or even a gernade engi.
