Mesmers in WvW
Been sayin it forever: Portals should not be able to go through intact walls and gates.
Not talking about any exploits, its a valid strat to have mesmers in an occupied tower, hiding and such to avoid detection so they can sneak players back in.
Im thinking of the mesmer in this, seriously how much fun is it to camp in an enemy base just to be a bus.
I know its not an exploit. I’m just saying Anet should change it so that Portals cannot go through intact walls and gates.
Fixes all sorts of problems including what you are talking about. And also I’d bet most of the qq about people exploiting into structures is because of Mesmers hiding.
Best of all, I don’t have to hear, “Sweep for Mesmers” anymore when we capture something.
They arent porting through an intact wall theyre providing a ladder over it from the inside.
1. Add ladders to climb over walls for players to use to gain entry.
Over, under, through, from another dimension or alternate universe, doesn’t matter. There should be no way to get into a structure except for breaking down the gates or walls.

They fixed that in February. You can no longer place a portal inside a gate and allow people to use from outside. You actually have to leap over the wall to the other side to place it, and within a certain radius too. Not sure what you think you’re seeing otherwise … maybe just not understanding the mechanics?
Per the OP, I love my mesmer fine the way it is …, I’m much more than a portal bot and as for refusing to defend: if you value the structure, stay. Otherwise expect to lose it.

us memsers move slower than doylaks on sleeping pills. light armor – makes no sense.
can mesmers get heavy armor so we can run as fast as warriors please ? think of it as an illusion lol.

No, I know how the mechanic works, I’m staying they need to change the mechanic. By intact, I mean that when a keep/tower has the walls and gates unbroken, Mes portal should not be able to port people to the other side.
See my post above yours.
hmm…… Portal bombing massive objectives such kitten or a Garrison have been some of the most fun and rewarding times of WvW I have ever had. Take those away and I will find you.
PRAISE GEESUS
its not hard to sweep for mesmers.
hiding in SMC successfully and porting a group in to cap it is very rewarding and intense and exciting. it’s not easy to hide in there unless the enemy is just well…. dumb.
Many mesmer mechanics need a complete rework. I cant tell you how many times I have been stuck in a wall or gate rocks, trees, etc. not by choice, but by being stuck in it due to mesmer combat mechanics.
I always felt that portal should be an F5 skill for mesmers on a much higher CD. Still allow the existing portal utility “as is”, since it kinda balances out when it takes up a utility slot by reducing survivability or DPS, and make them both trigger cooldowns of each other so there is no possibility of 2 portals in a row fro ma single mesmer.
The line of sight mechanics in general are borked. I would like to see a following change to portal:
Range 0-600 no change
Range 600+ portals work only on direct line of sight.
Im not saying take away the portal ability or how it functions in this game. Take away the need for it with alternatives.

Ah you made it sound like an exploit in your original post by saying gates/walls. It did work that way for a bit, but was fixed.
As for getting rid of the mechanic entirely? Naw, it’s one of the better utilities for a Mesmer. Taking it away after nerfing just about everything else (over the past year) would render the class useless. If people are too lazy to sweep or defend, they deserve the tower or keep flip. There are ways to counter. If there was no way to counter it, I’d say you have a point, but that’s not the case.
Mesmer portal is used for much more than just bombing and tower flips btw.
Taking away mesmer portal would be like taking away warrior shouts or banners or guardian heal/boon spells. Sure a warrior can’t hide and flip a tower, but I can’t as a Mesmer fight, get my health to 5%, and use a super speed boost to run away. And hide is the keyword here: meaning if you’re thorough, you can find them.

How do you use it to flip a tower if you need line of sight? You effectively eliminate that in a keep, rendering portals useless in that regard. Can’t see through walls …. 600 range is severely restrictive.
No thanks.

I never said get rid of portal. Its just lame that it can get people into a structure without having to attack it.
Its not hard to sweep for Mesmers, its just not fun. Its a lame mechanic and adds drudgery to a game that people play for fun. Lame, lame, lame.
And as I said, most of the QQ about glitching into towers/keeps could be gotten rid of by changing Portal.
But whatever, Anet’s not going to change it so it doesn’t really matter.
Not saying take it away, saying they should add alternatives. 2 mesmers from different servers were camping in the same spot and and for mutually beneficial reasons neither decided to attack the other, an unspoken truce.
The race for who can get the bulk of their server in before the other began. This happened because SM was continuously being flipped, no one bothered to sweep no one bothered to defend they just went on their zerg rotation from x spot to x spot till they ended back at SM again.
Meanwhile that mesmer was sitting next to that other mesmer twiddling their thumbs.
definitely dungeons and dragon rules vs quake rules lol
in dungeons and dragons – thats considered magic / strategy – in quake that’s considered cheating.
Rocket jump vs portal, strafe jumping vs blink.
Rocket jump takes a bit of skill, so does strafe jumping.
I understand the need for scouts and to use mechanics of classes, mesmers have portals, so use it. wouldnt it be better to do so without diminishing a mesmers other useful traits and usually its the same people that volunteer to camp SM, or a new mesmer who gets trained to fill this role and wants to take one for the team so that flipping will be available.
Give more options so your not left waiting like your in an elevator for the door ding to open.
actually the hiding in a keep is more exciting form me than being the portal/veilbot for a zerg.
