I have a friend in the EU who joined an american world in order to be able to play with me. However he says he cannot join WvW because the game will not let him unless his character is level 31 or higher. Is this a bug or are European GW2 clients different than their American counterparts in some respects?

it’s the NPE. The WvW shortcut I think only works if you have at least 1 character above that level, it’s Anet’s attempt at streamlining stuff and guiding new players, personally I find it annoying, but I don’t know how people new to GW2 or MMOs in general would find it.

There is a workaround, have him go to LA and just jump into one of the portals to WvW

It’s acc bound so you don’t need to have a char over lvl 30 you just need to have had one.

They should add pvp leveling system. Upscaling just not works

Isn’t that exactly what the other guy said, but with different wording? What was the point in quoting him?

IIRC, you can still physically walk through the portals in LA even if you don’t meet the level 31 requirement. Just can’t use the menu.

Note that playing WvW underleveled can be a frustrating-for-you/counterproductive-for-your-team experience.
