Missing Communication
aaaand he’s gone.
Not quite!
I’m still getting acclimated to the WvW team, and most recently I’ve been working with the balance team on the livestream we’ll be running tomorrow. (Which you’ll of course be watching, right?)
There is a WvW balance team?.. guessing they all play Warriors then… on a stacked server!
He said he is on the balance team, he never said their was a wvw specific one. Reading is hard.
He said he is working with the balance team, he never said he was on it. Reading is really hard.
The lack of communication means they haven’t got the foggiest idea how to progress with WvWvW and Devon Carver’s Absence means he has lost the balls to face us.
Don’t hold out much hope for WvWvW.

so tell me, how many MMO’s have you developed?

I fail to see how that has any bearing on this conversation. Developer or not, the problems in WvW have been glaringly obvious since day 1, the fact that nothing has been done is heartbreaking because the entire game mode is a mountain of gold buried underneath 2 inches of tengu poop.
Still waiting for the return of Orbs of Power/ Relics
Still waiting for EoTM for better GvG areas
Still waiting for a fix for reward disparity between WvW and PvE
Still waiting for broken classes such as Rangers and Engies to get some WvW love
Still waiting for new borderlands maps etc. etc.
I’m not complaining by any means, just stating the obvious that a year and a half later with nothing done on this is disheartening and is losing them players in the game type. I get that they have to test, retest, and make sure nothing else is broken with each WvW update, but the pace of the work being done is glacial at best.
EDIT: Adding to this, calling devs out is not acceptable in my book, and I don’t think it has anything to do with them not wanting to face us, so much as not having enough development going into WvW period. It is no one person’s fault, and to lay the blame on Devon is childish imo.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.

Any communication is a good thing. It also makes perfect sense that it’s going to take him some good time to get up to speed with their priorities:
1. What NCSoft wants
2. What Anet wants
3. What the WvW team wants to do
4. What the WvW team can actually do
5. What can the WvW team do that the playerbase actually wants
So, it might take him a little while before meaningful communication can flow.

the point is obvious, developing takes time. I’m going to school to be a dev, RIGHT NOW. Though I may not be out of college and into my field yet, I will say that the things your asking for take time. Unless you’d rather them rush the implementations and cause even more problems? Its a no brainer to me. Be patient, because complaining(even though you said you weren’t) doesn’t make anything happen faster.

I never stated that it doesn’t take time, just that we should have seen something beyond the Bloodlust mechanic after a year and a half of work. Of course it takes time, I just think they need more manpower invested in WvW.
For instance, Mythic, with a smaller development team, was putting out RvR content at 3 times the pace of Anet’s development on a much smaller game type, WvW. Glassdoor can give you a good insight on why Anet is falling by the wayside and why companies like Mythic were able to do more for less.

I don’t think anything can be “fixed” in WvW until you can figure out a way to fix server imbalance, whether through buffing lower populations or whatever.

Is developing something new easier and quicker than fixing or changing something that already exists?
I’m wondering because with GW1 they released whole new games (expansions) like every year and a half- 2 years. Huge areas of new maps, new professions, new skills, etc that had to integrate with the existing previous expansions.
Its frustrating as a player who wants to love the game. It just seems like they could do something faster than their current pace.
Good job people.
We get someone that will work on communicating with us and at once you start attacking him and complaining, and claiming that they don’t care and so on.
Why do you think Devon stopped posting in the first place?

The game was in development for 5 years, it’s been out for 1.5 years as well. Still not even a word on them having a solution for (the still growing) population imbalance. The game still rewards you better for playing in a higher tier and rewards you better yet still for not playing WvW at all.
Since launch ArenaNet went from 300 to 350 people. All that’s in the pipes to deal with the problem of empty maps is another map.
Good job people.

Agreed, no need to drag a single person under the bus when it’s a company of 350 people. Give the guy a chance before you start beating him with a stick please
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
Welcome Josh, I hope you brought your armor.
WvW, in the end, outside of 5-man content is the only thing that is going to keep my guild here. We are hoping for good changes in the future.
ANet is passionate about its game.
WvW / RvR players I believe are probably the most passionate players when it comes to their game.
Harness that, understand a lot of the flack stems from that passion and good luck here!
Looking forward to more communication.

PS: This BG asuran elementalist will be very happy to hand you a cookie…a really really hot cookie – like a flaming rum ball.
See you on the field.
Playing on a super stacked T1 server? Great. WvW won’t be improving any time soon.
LOL. I don’t think he’s on BG.
For those wondering, I play engineer, I prefer to roam, I’m currently on JQ, and yes, I take bribes in the form of cookies.

JQ,
An inauspicious beginning.
Could you also do something about these godkitten ques? It is getting insane on fridays waiting for more than an hour to play the game I payed for. And dont begin about that map update because that is not solving the que problem.

What can they do though?
The queues are there for a reason, if they could have unlimited amount of players on each map I am quite sure they would.

They can make it attractive for players to spread out across the servers. Almost all the servers don’t have 1 hour queues at reset.
They can start by making it cheaper to transfer to lower ranked server. IT’S NOT THAT HARD.
