The other day in WvW our zerg was passing the enemy keep. Normally, I wouldn’t chase squirrels but that day I did and I totally shouldn’t have… Anyway, this very attractive Warrior was standing just a few feet from us when we passed (I say attractive because their c**kyness made me want to attack them). Separating from the group, I began to attack only to be immediately stunned (when the border of your screen goes white and you can’t move until the duration is finished), fortunately I’m a very, very tanky Necro. So after being stunned I went back to trying to attack only to be stunned again within about 2 seconds. I used Spectral Armor to break the stun, and was immediately dazed (when the border of your screen goes purple and you can move, but cannot attack). I was stunned a total of 5 times, and dazed twice before I was killed. All within about a minute.
Then, I watched the same thing happen to two other people trying to attack this person… Was this an exploit or what the hell were they using to do this? I’ve never encountered a player who could spam stuns so often. Which is probably why they were so c**ky in the first place… I ask because I want to know how I can counter this incase I find myself against another person who’s doing this. Because that was an extremely frustrating 60seconds. I just about flipped my table and rage-quit.

This game doesn’t have diminishing returns on CC yet. CC is king, like it was in the original DAoC before Mythic fixed CC.

Great. Now lets go down your list as to why it is bad. Plague form is easy to run away from and when it is gone we are back to the same problem. Lich form only works on power builds and while the stability is nice, any non power spec will hit for pathetic damage. Spectral walk and armor are both great but 1 stunbreak just won’t cut it against a build that can stun you 6 times. They both have a 60 second CD. Well of power lasts 1 second that is gone by the time you finish casting. Blinding can be avoided by using any non stun attack first. Dodge with our large endurance bar and no vigor. Melandru runes are nice but only -25% stun duration on a rune set where the other buffs are bad for a necro(-condi duration is never needed when we have the best heal and two condi transfers) is silly.
Foot in the grave is fantastic and I think everyone should use it.
OP, you are not going to beat any CC heavy warrior who is good at this game. It just won’t happen. The nice thing is that if you grab spectral walk you can run away because these warriors are slow as heck. Pop down some chills and fear him away and you are just fine.
If you really want to beat him the name of the game is kiting. You gotta space out your chill and cripple for keeping him at a distance. The fears should only be used when he is on top of you. If CCing is becoming a problem for you I’d run a build like 0/20/20/0/30 or something where you can get that Foot in the Grave trait. It is my favorite trait as a necro who roams a fair bit.
Now lets go over the list of professions who can actually do this and also have the damage to kill you.
-Warrior
That is all. Instead of nerfing all CCs across the board, lets start with the actual trouble maker.
The entire point of a stun attack is that once its happened you can’t do anything. That’s its purpose.
You don’t counter stuns after they have happened, you counter before they happen by preventing them with block/blind/evade/stability or simply by kiting and keeping them away with chill/cripple.
If you’ve already been stunned, then it’s too late to start thinking of counter-play.
There’s a reason Engi and Necro don’t have many stun-breaks, and that’s that they both have excellent access to blind, chill and cripple.

ww, aa, ss, dd 12345`12345 are all good combos for a necro beating a warrior.
contrary to popular belief a good necro should beat a good warrior all the time in a 1v1 unless the warrior plays it perfectly.

That’s not true. Stunlock warriors are very problematic for necros, who really don’t have many stunbreaks. Moreover, warriors have pretty decent condition removal with zerker stance, cleansing ire, etc. and many sources of stability.

Necro can do it too…
Lol so this is what goes through the heads of the zerglings that leave their zerg to kill real players and die.

Lol, implying that the brainless meta stun spam warriors are “real players”. Easy to win when your opponent cant move. not everyone farts out stability and immunities like warrior. I play a warrior and even i think this crap is broken. CC needs diminishing returns like it had in DAoC. But as a necro, he shouldnt really be complaining either cuz they’re OP as hell too in their own way.

I’m not talking about the build in any way. However, this build has been around for a long time. The OP and like most zerglings just karmatrain and don’t know how to fight outside of it.

That, i’d have to agree with you on. Most people i manage to pull away from their 60 man zerg melt like butter. Guards give me more of a challenge than the majority of people i run into.
I am a warrior player and let us clear a few things up.
To apply this amount of stuns dazes, I am assuming he runs hammer – mace/shield. Now the mobility on that build is enourmously bad, so kiting is the answer here.
I am again assuming you are a condi necro as you are really tanky as you said. Now condi necros have an incredible easy time killing these types of warriors. Run the +40% condi duration food and keep your distance, stack slows and chills on him and you’ll have a 100% useless warrior. Watch how he goes down to your amazing condi damage.
Another point I like to make is how telegraphed the warriors skills are, learn their animations. So if he by any chance gets close, dodge and apply chill again.
So how to counter:
1) +40% condi duration food
2) chill and slow him to death
3) learn his animations and learn to dodge
4) keep max distance
Is this warrior build OP? No, there are plenty of counters to it and you only need 3 bleed stacks to start outdamaging his healing signet. The necro just had a small l2p issue and I hope he now knows how to kill warriors. I actually think stunlock warriors are pretty kittenty.

No, this is what goes through the head of people getting stunned using stunbreaker and yes getting stunned again at full duration but guess you find it ok unlike many other people
The problem in this thread, and all threads like it, is a clear lack of player skill.
I personally don’t play full CC warrior because it is super cheesy. The build annihilates noobs and bad players without any effort.
It is just one of those things where when you die to it once, you need to think about what just happened and how you can improve for next time. Either you learn from the death or you keep dying.
See, the issue is that you’re a necro. ArenaNet wants all classes to have a massively exposed weakness. For warriors and guardians it’s blind. For necros it’s CC. For mesmers and thieves it’s AoE. The list continues on. I run a S/P thief for the exact purpose to counter necros who have very little access to stability, and then boon strip on steal to rip their stability when they do go for it. The blind on Black Powder also helps against Warriors and Guardians. Although it may be getting old hearing this: it’s a matter of Rock meet Paper. I lack AoE cleave outside of my autoattack range, and thus PU Mesmers and HGH Engineers pose a huge issue for my build.
Many valid points.
Learning to read the attacks and avoiding/kiting the Warrior is a good strategy and yes, the point of a stun is to prevent retaliation. I hadn’t thought of it that way.
I asked on the forums so that I could get advice on how to defeat someone using this strategy. If you want to assume I’m a zergling and lack any skill you’re entitled to, but your advice will help me the next time I’m faced against someone like this. I’d like to think asking how to prevent it from happening after it has happened once instead of raging with a mile long post about how it should be nerfed after failing 100 times is a better approach.
