I think it actually works rather well and I like it, my only issue is that when your ready to quit WvW’ing your still going to be getting reward track progress while sitting in spawn for 10~15 minutes so your incentivised to just sit around in spawn till your participation progress finally empties out.

I suggest just making certain events give a flat amount of reward track progress instead of having people sit around in spawn to get the most out of the participation points.

Just my thoughts on the subject…

General gold idea, sadly k-train incentive. No idea how to fix the reward tracks. Add reasonable loot, you will get leeches. Remove loot, hurt core players. It will be interesting what becomes of them.

Well, I’m not sure about your server but I rarely see people just sitting at our spawn points for long periods of time with the likely intent of boosting their rewards. It’s possible people do it of course but from what I can see it’s in the very small minority at best. Frankly I don’t care if someone is so lazy they want to stand there just for that… At the end of the day, it doesn’t hurt me in any way so power to them.. ugh…

same can be said of the home bl ‘crafters’…. I will use the stations at times, but not when I know there is a queue for the bl. Pretty sure others could care less that they are “wasting space” though….

This, or keep track of what you were earning when you log back in to WvW after leaving and returning. I myself, and I am sure many others, have been called away and had to log out a few times and in doing so I have lost tons of track xps.

I am not asking for free lootz here, just a return to where I left off at, in order to not be forced to accumulate the points again.

The problem is the decay\gain rate in the current system incentivises you basicly to go to your pug grp, flip a camp, push over some guards\sentries (ofc remain in the sentry till the claim is complete, get killed by roamer and rage or return to spawn) take a tower if it gets opened and then you can basicly mine the nodes in your area or flip stuff on TP while doing not too much else for the next 15 mins.
It is great that we get rewards (as broke is my middle name) but this system encurages players to join their server on k-train week for max profit. While at the same time offering easily accessable participation during tough or one sided matchups which results in players in maxing out their participation and avoiding fights instead of fighting back.

Because wvw consists of a variety of different play styles this broader approach offers rewards whether you flip sentries, camps, player kill or flip keeps. It does sadly open the system for people that are only in for the coins, but i think we have to live with that, as an entirely capture based mechanic would only encourage flipping stuff. Why defend? You could take it back later for more rewards. Why fight outnumbered or in hard matchups? Wait for k train week and profit from increased capture.

Again OP i share your sentiment and i too would rather they changed the way participation works. As it stands i am glad we have the tracks. I am not glad that it encourages people to remain “afk” on a map with queue for as long as the participation has not run out.

ANet has now made it so that you get rewards for simply being IN WvW… you don’t even have to do anything other than move once in a while to keep from being booted by the timer. omg that is sooooo not well thought out! Getting the goodies via the good ol’ WORK in WvW and NOT time spent makes a lot more sense, prevents abuse, and ensures that the people in WvW are actually doing something useful.

ANet if you are reading this thread… PLEASE reconsider this very poor way of rewarding people for doing nothing.

I think reward tracks in general are awarded incorrectly. I would like to see them being awarded purely and exclusively based on primary, major activity such as killing opposition players, objective caps, active objective defenses (exclude defense events resulting from tapping, bugs, etc. award only actual contribution in an actually active defense), escorting Yaks, etc.

In addition, I would like maintained active participation to affect the rate at which you gain reward tracks have a far bigger and far more noticable effect.

The participation bar needs to decay, so you cant just obtain it once then sit somewhere AFK and gain tracks, you need to actually participate.

You should get nothing, for doing nothing.

This would solve a lot of issues which are currently coming into view and on which there are many posts on these forums.

I’m not sure I see the problem, they’ve changed participation to 5 min ticks now rather than 15 haven’t they? So at most people would be waiting around for 4 and a half minutes now? Personally I used that time for inventory management. Because nothing epitomises my time in gw2 like trying to free up inventory slots at every possible moment. (And my server never has queues).
Actually, does it take the same amount of time to reach whatever the cap is now as it took to reach the cap when it was every 15min or does it take like a 3rd of the time now as then?
(God I wish I could play right now and just find out for myself)

It was said in another thread that a person got the reward track filled in by watching a movie and occasionally recapping the same point.
Kind of the problem with it, because it is a certain amount every 5 mins if you get to 195 and afk, only participating the bare minimum to stop it decaying for say 2 hours you will get your reward just as fast as somebody who spends 2 hours in a squad, taking camps, towers, spending most of the 2 hours actively playing. I’d say if the cap for reward track progress was higher but decay for not participating was faster.

I last wvw’d nearly a week ago and I was still being rewarded beyond the 5 minute mark. It lasted about a full 15 minutes (I didn’t time it). Since I was still being rewarded for the effort I put in I fell as though I need to afk to be properly rewarded for all that I actually contributed before I left so I would constantly find myself having GW2 minimized while I watch a few youtube videos…

I would just like a reward system put in place that rewards players the moment they capture an objective. To counter the K-train and EotM people you would implement a diminishing returns function that would kick in after so many objective captures in a certain amount of time. I would also only apply that effect to towers and keeps as a small group can take many caps/sentries in a very short amount of time.

Then you get into the debate of k-trains vs. roaming vs. scouting/defending. Right now k-trains give way more wvw exp (which also gives loot), whereas roaming gives less and scouting almost nothing. Having two rewards systems that both operate the same way is silly.

The rewards tracks gets around the disadvantage to scouting or defending by allowing commanders to delegate participation to those willing to hug siege and watch for movement.

Reward track progress could still be delegated to scouts even if you got it directly from capturing objectives.

I don’t see a need to change this absent confirmation it is enough of a problem to justify reducing rewards for people actively playing, which will likely be the end result of the changes suggested. From what has been said, this seems a lot like a Fox News report that someone in the projects has a nice car so all social programs should be eliminated followed by an editorial saying the reason the middle class is shrinking is because poor people took all their money.

It takes longer than that to run across a borderlands map, alpine or desert.

So? You get participation at extremely rapid rates anyway. Even roaming around doing dailies currently lets me maintain max participation. I don’t see any harm in reducing the decay timer

What they need to do is make reward tracks progress based on WXP gained (like how the PVP originals progress based on rank points), rather than this super-grindy “participation” garbage.

It’s dramatically harder to fill a reward track in WvW than in PVP, and that doesn’t make any godkitten ed sense.
