My own server mate called me a 'loser'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
Wait so, you saw a 2v2 and jumped in to finish off the downed enemy players, am I getting this right?
They were prob just dueling, but in a bad spot..If you ever see a fight like that with others watching it’s best to just move on to something else,or ask if they need help.Eventhough you thought you did good, and you actually did..They could have also just told you before you jumped in there that they were having a duel.
When i see a duel i always do a fake stomp and cancel it in the last second just to see them shout at me in chat. But yea best thing to do if you see 5 ppl watching is to watch or walk away. If you dont mind the reputation u can finish them off ofcourse. Actually it doesnt really matter, i got called kitten yesterday because i thought something was a duel and i watched
It’s their own fault for dueling in a public spot. If they shout something before and/or the enemy doesn’t fight back then you shouldn’t bother stomping. Even then it doesn’t matter, do what you want. You didn’t do anything wrong if that’s what you are wondering. Communicating with duelers (even those on your own bl) is really the only wrong thing you can do.

Can’t people just have their little duels in a guild arena now? That would fix the problem with holding a ‘private event’ in a RvR map.
Next time you see them dead, ress to 99% and walk away.
Madness Rises [Rise] – Banners Hold.
Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
They became losers when they got upset enough to call you a loser.
You became a loser when you became upset enough to come here to post this; in effect, calling them losers.
Both sides are losers. Posts above are explaining types of losing.
RvR isn’t “endgame”, it’s the only game. Cu in CU.
LOL! As far as I’m concerned, anyone dueling in WvW is open game —- we have a PvP area and, now, GvG arenas for that sort of thing.
I say… stomp on!
Wait till ppk comes into play. RIP duelers outside of SM.. You’ll just become points to the mindless zerglings..
Why would you want to want to interrupt a duel? Does it make you feel good that you can kill somebody in 2v1 situation? Or are you after the rewards? 2 spikes in your inventory make you happy?
I always taunt my teammates when they ruin those 1v1 fights.

Not everyone has been around a long time. Not everyone can tell a duel from players fighting it out. Not everyone that goes into wvw realizes that some people don’t just run around capping things. Takes time to figure these things out.
Some people respect others, others don’t care and see red = dead.. Both are fine IMO because this is WvW and its never been a fair game mode. If you want to duel in open spots you should already know you might get adds in your fights..
I’ve grown to respect others as they tend to do the same thing back. Not all the time. If I pass duelers and wave, chances are if I lose my zerg they will let me pass again to get back to my zerg. If I jump in on a duel, chances are I’ll be focused on every map LOL
OP just might be new to this game mode and not yet realize that some people have friendly duels.
Also I can say the same thing about solo roamers and other guild roamers.. Why do so many roaming guilds jump just me when I’m solo roaming? Does it make you feel good to 5vs1 me? Or were you after your1 spike. :P
@OP you did nothing wrong. World vs World is made for the large scale pvp community, it’s not created for roamers and dulers. Everything is fair game in World Vs world, just put the people who forgot what game mode they are in on ignore.
Really annoying to see roamers and dulers cry in WvW, the game mode was not made for them, if they want structured pvp or 1v1 duels than they can go play Structured pvp and make a private room for 1v1s.
Enough of this silly structure and rule crap in GW2 version of open world large scale pvp, kill everything that is red.

Imo that’s exactly what is wrong with the implementation of dueling in GW2 in the first place. Dueling at its core is players creating their own private events, anywhere, and at anytime of their choosing. Anet “missed the mark” trying to find some middle ground for sensitive players that didn’t want to glimpse the visual clutter of players enjoying something they don’t.
With the exception of major cities dueling should be added to all of Tyria/The Heart of Maguuma.

I sincerely don’t understand why some folks feel the need to dictate how others play.
If it’s not interrupting your game play, then why even bother with duellers? Let them be.
You certainly can no longer argue they’re “taking up valuable map space” now.
If it’s red, it’s dead. They have no right to complain. It’s the risk they run dueling in WvW. Go to OS or a guild hall.
If you want to duel, go to the Deserted Boredomlands. No one else will be there, and there’s plenty of room.
Game population is drying up, winning doesn’t matter yet look at all these super cereal "WvWvW is a war, if it’s red it’s dead! " types lol yeesh.
I’ll take “What is courtesy? Alex, for 300.”
The people who say “If it’s red it’s dead” seem so boring. So many times I’ve just ran up to someone and stood beside them, run around together after using a tonic or try to help someone from server X getting ganked by server Y. I’ve also ran around with a random dude in a BL killing people from the third server, all of this happened without even needing to talk to the other person. Why do I do this? Because why not. Honestly just going after every red is so monotonous and it’s usually the people who only run in groups of 10+ that usually go after every red.
Why is it so hard to just let them duel? I’ve never seen anyone dueling when a map is queued (inb4 this one time 2 years ago I saw these 2 guys dueling when the map was queued). Yes people duel in an area with a decent amount of traffic because most of the time it’s spontaneous and eventually people running through that area join in to duel.
WvWers are so toxic to anyone that doesn’t play their gamemode the same way they do. You’ve already got people automatically defending OP, chances are the people standing around did tell OP to stop but probably only noticed after killing the 2 downed. You’ve got one dude hating on duelers saying “communicating with duelers is the only wrong thing you can do”. Another saying WvW is not created for roamers or “dulers”, yea no kitten everything is fair game but is it so hard to just run past people dueling.
Again these duels are not pre-planned, most of the people dueling are random roamers who don’t know each other. Telling them to go to the guild hall or a PvP arena is asinine because the point is to duel someone you happen to randomly come across and you think they put up a good fight.
OP has posts from several months ago about WvW, a couple posts asking about roaming from a year ago, unless he/she is completely clueless they should have known about people dueling in WvW and should’ve been able to recognize it. This post is just OP’s attempt at venting and trying to gain some sympathy because they want to feel like they did nothing wrong.
I used to respect duels. But now whenever I see an enemy, I try to kill her. Before, when you wanted to watch a duel, you could. Now duelers try to kill you, other friends attack you, when you are in a large fight they sneak behind you and kill you…etc. I am talking about the people who are in a 1vs1, and whom you respected and left alone. This happened more than 20 times (maybe my opponent/servers are just tushyholes dunno)
I have seen so many examples. If you are dueling in a public place, you have no right to say " omg noob we r dueling…etc". Go find some place else. Or go Obsidian Sanctum if you want to duel so much. It is not that hard.
I sincerely don’t understand why some folks feel the need to dictate how others play.

Yo don’t mess with roamer’s duels unless you’re prepared for a KITTENfest off slurs and slander to be thrown into your chatbox That’s some of the most toxic ickyness you can step into involving gw2. I get the whole “red is dead”, fair enough, you REALLY want that worthless heavy loot bag, whatever, just be ready for whatever disgusting thing that the dueler will say to you. xD

Here’s the OP
I came upon 2 enemy fighting my server’s people.
They had 2 people and my people had about 5 of us standing around watching.
I jumped in and killed both of the enemies while they were downed thinking I was contributing more than the 5 people who just stood there and watched. One of my server mate called me a ‘loser’.
HELLO I helped kill 2 enemies while you stood there and watch.
The fact that he was cognizant of 5 other people standing and watching means he knew exactly what he was doing. It takes zero skill to stomp already downed players. Considering he has posts exclusively in WvW going back a year kind of seals that and eliminates the “oh I’m new” factor.
I suspect the OP was being facetious to elicit responses.

Look, when I command, most of the time, I don’t care about the duelers. But really, if it’s red, it’s dead. You can’t complain that you might get killed if fighting in an open world pvp zone. The exceptions, for me, are those duelers who also play pick, or constantly tap the keeps, or sometimes spawn camp. If I see them dueling, I’ll kill them.
To me, it kinda boils down to location. If people are dueling off in the corner of a map, who cares? Let them have their fun. But if they’re at an objective, or along one of the roads, they’re sort of asking for people to jump it. It’s like playing in the middle of the street, eventually a bus is going to come by and run you over. If it’s just roamers bumping into each other randomly, that’s not a duel, that’s a fight. The possibility of jump ins should be expected, both sides are fair game. However, if there’s 5 people standing around watching, that’s a duel, go off to an isolated corner somewhere. Then it’s dirty pool to interrupt you. Both sides of the equation need to have situational awareness, and adjust themselves accordingly.

That doesn’t change much to me; and it doesn’t absolve the other people from tossing insults. What if OP here was newer and didn’t know what was happening. Would that have changed matters?
I mean sure, in this particular case OP may have it coming but in general my point still stands. Besides, there’s plenty of cases where both sides are wrong.

I was merely commenting on this particular OP. I agree with the guy a few posts up, if duellers are perpetually door knocking or spawn camping, wipe them. That’s not duelling, that’s trolling, similar to what the OP described.
Respect goes both ways. I opt for letting people play as they want, but if they’re being @sahats, then they deserve the term.

So what do you think about the areas around SM? Just curious, as its by far the most popular dueling spots (more often than not, the only spot) and it can sometimes cause SM to be contested.
Personally I dont care for dueling or GvG. I just walk past what I consider to be a fair fight where my allies determine whether they live or die. If they die because I didnt “help”… so be it. A good fight is what gets the heart pumping.
Eithet way 1v2 (or more) is the ultimate test of your combat skills, hugging that dueling safety blanket does not impress me.

Duelers want an interruption free duel? Spvp and OS. Simple, right? Or is it just too complex to click a couple buttons and go somewhere?

Sadly you don’t understand unwritten rules, you only think that because it is open world pvp. So yes we can just do what we like, still, players are enjoying wvw how they prefer, but they know what’s respectful towards those; who know the unwritten rules, wvw/gvg guilds don’t jump into one guild as a group of 2 or more, unless outnumbered.
After all this time, players should know by now.

What’s wrong with seeing some random roamer and wanting to fight them fairly? You don’t want to know their name, be their friend, linger and speak to them, you just want to see if you’re more skilled than that guy and be on your way.
Knowingly (key word) interrupting a duel doesn’t prove anything, it doesn’t make you better, or cooler, and it doesn’t really help your server. It’s lame to do so, and justifications like red = dead etc. don’t make it any less lame.
That being said, regarding the OP, outright flaming in any situation is uncalled for, and achieves nothing. The people watching could simply have said it was a duel, even after the 2 guys got stomped. If it happens again then they have a right to be grieved.

Can’t people just have their little duels in a guild arena now? That would fix the problem with holding a ‘private event’ in a RvR map.
And how does one find other ppl to duel on demand? Out in the open where ppl come to these known spots.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore

Well, it’s right next to an objective, which means there’s going to be traffic coming though. SM especially is going to be a heavy traffic area. So someone coming through and interrupting them is pretty much guaranteed. And if it’s causing SM to become contested, it’s having an impact on the WvW gameplay itself, since it would be typing up a waypoint. They’re pretty much making themselves giant targets, and if they get killed or if someone jumps in, it’s really their own fault for their choice of location.
People used to duel and GvG south of the windmill on the old borderlands, and that was perfectly fine, since it was out of the way, and didn’t really have much impact on anyone else. Except when queues would become an issue. But a friendly talk would usually resolve that. Now, if they were holding their GvG in between the garrison and Hills, they’d pretty much have to expect jump ins and they wouldn’t really have a leg to stand on if they were to complain.
He is not a new player, read again, there’s your clue.

You shouldn’t have to obey unwritten rules – there is a reason why they aren’t official rules. There are a lot of people going by “if it’s red, it’s dead”. Let’s just start calling that an unwritten rule as well, then you can’t call us disrespectful, we just follow another “rule”.
Point being, it’s not us who are disrespectful for interrupting a duel. WvW is made for killing enemies, not standing around waiting to see if you are “allowed” to do so. If you don’t like it then WvW is clearly not for you.
Knowingly (key word) interrupting a duel doesn’t prove anything, it doesn’t make you better, or cooler, and it doesn’t really help your server.
Thing is (speaking for myself at least) – being cool, better or helping the server isn’t why I do it. I simply find it entertaining to attack enemies. Under all circumstances. And I play the game for my own entertainment.
Long time ago I made a vote thread to gandarran forum asking “What do you do when you see an 1v1 fight”
If I recall correctly about
- 33% would always add into a fight.
- 33% would add only if there was an objective like a camp in stake
- 33% would never add, even if it meant servermate dying.
It seems gandara forum has been destroyed sometime this year so I can’t be sure. Not like it that matters much since only <100 pll even voted.

People duel for the same reasons, they like challenging duels where they can gain experience and improve from fights, losing an ordinary fight means you have to walk all the way back and you probably won’t find whoever beat you, going to OS means you won’t be able to continue what you were doing before you started dueling and other people won’t know you are dueling so they won’t join in.
In my server zergs are polite enough to ignore duels and we let people like OP die if they feel like interrupting people.
Lol at any person whining about duel interruption around SMC. Don’t play soccer/football on the highway complaining that cars are on the way.
OP the persons on your server who treated you this way for genuinely trying to help them are kittens undeserving of logging in even the current BL anyway.

Like I said in my previous post, there are a lot of instances that can (and did for my experience) be harmful if you let pvpers alone. I personally suffered several times from them. They usually go and backstab anyone they can find, interrupt other duels, attack a zerg from behind and slay the casters while they are having their duels (saw this example soooo many times). So now I have a solid reason to slay any “red” I encounter. Otherwise it is me or my friends.
If you want to have a duel, get your tushies to obsidian sanctum. Or join in a private area. If you can not do all these, at least find a secluded corner and have your duel there. Not in front of the SM.
Same thing happened to me once before I learned, only the person called me a kitten idiot. Since then, I’ve been cussed for not helping in what looked like a duel, roamers are so fickle. Report and move on if they are vulgar, help when you can, otherwise ask if it’s a duel before bagging someone elses prize.

Most of the time fights like this end up with the OP dead, their guild marked for retribution and guilds on their own server abandoning them when they need help.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with interrupting a duel in WvW but be prepared to live with consequences. I also wouldn’t whine about being called a loser on public forums especially when some guilds will actively spawn camp you for doing that.
