What now? Am I the only one that feels winning WvW matches leaves an empty feeling? I don’t care to brag to other pixels about how “leet” my worlds is. I could care less about the bonuses that my world gets for scoring points. They just reset anyway…

You win, everything resets, and only 2 things change…

1)World Colour

2)The third place world is replaced with another.

Currently WvW is a massive and highly effective gold sink. I have been playing MMOs for a long time now. I accepted the lack of visual progression(no gear grind etc). However, rewards are what keeps a player motivated to achieve a goal in a MMO.

After putting a lot of long hours into WvW the above just destroyed my motivation to play. Being a Ghost Buster for so long is also destroying my fun(rendering issues..).

Is there any plans to change this? I think the 1st and 2nd placed servers, for all the tiers, should reward those that participate. Each tier should increase the rewards given.

I don’t wanna live a thousand years. If I just live through today, that’ll be enough.

No empty feeling here our last match was very karmic and satisfying. I loved the past victory our server had. It was a tough two weeks not just in game but on these forums with all the abuse we took. The match had my server up versus the other two and coming up on top and booting one of them down a tier was great!

Killing players is fun sure, but that’s all that needs to be offered? I would hope in a PvP match filled with swords and siege that I would be able to kill someone.

I just had a great match also and my server did win the tier 1 fight. A lot of gold down the drain, a lot of long nights, and for what? To say we won guys, congratulations? To receive nothing in return but a self pat on the back? 2 week matches haven’t even started yet…

I can’t see myself continuing to do this for a full year. Not as a game I take seriously anyway. Especially not as my go to MMO for PvP.

So much hard work and I still feel like it’s launch day.

Wvw should just be about fun and an amount of server pride in the win.. however a small physical reward would not hurt either, perhaps a chunk of honor badges would be suitable as they are not easy to farm.

Personally i would love to see this go a little more in depth.. something along the lines of a unique dungeon being unlocked that week for the winning server that has its own unique gear.. better still if that gear would be like guild gear but representative of your server instead.. to further add to pride of winning.

Yes, even some honor badges would be better than what we have now. Currently it’s like winning the playoffs and not receiving a ring. Congratz on the win, but what do you have to show for it? I have always enjoyed competition and having to “climb hills” to achieve a goal. However, there’s nothing at the top. You climb to the top just to be thrown back down to the bottom to start over. There is no reason to care about winning.

Allowing the winning server to keep its world bonuses, for the next match, would be a plus. If I just wanted the enjoyment of killing I would be playing a first person shooter.

I do agree a little with OP’s feeling. If the only real meaningful reward is the badges you get for kills and the karma/gold/xp for completing the sub-missions then maybe i shouldn’t waste so much time and resources taking and keep forts and instead spend more time tipping yaks and ganking stragglers.

While people do win and lose, the goal of WvW is to win your server world wide bonuses, such as an increased drop rate, gold drop and higher chance of looting extra mats.
This is the reward, and it is given through the entire week.
So really there is no end reward for winning.
You also get honor badges for killing people, which is needed for making legendaries. or getting Toughness/Vitil armour.

Don’t enter WvW thinking it’s like WoW’s Tol Barad or Wintergrasp where you win a fixed amount.

I don’t actually think it’s the lack of a reward that is the problem with WvW. I think it’s the fact the matches reset and that it’s all about the points. Instead of WvW feeling like some persistent battle against tough foes, it just feels like a really long WoW battleground.

It actually reminds me a lot of Alterac Valley in WoW early in the game where matches lasted for days at a time.

You put in blood sweat and tears and finaly that magical 1st place is within grasp, once obtained you are left with pride only.

A few cosmetic items / gold / skins anything that shows you have put in the dedication and determintation to requires the effort you have put in.

Its not a disaster it aint there, but it tends to get boring day in day out tough, seeing i only do WvW on SBI / Desolation (2 accounts) i log in less and less the last week.

The reward that you get for winning WvW for that week are the world bonuses and maybe some bragging rights. WvW should really be about having fun. Depending on the matchups each week, all servers have the potential to eventually win their bracket. The important thing is that your team, as a whole, learns something new from each week and is able to continually improve upon themselves.

On TC, we play not for points, but to have fun.

People go out to the playground and shoot hoops because shooting hoops is fun…not for fame, fortune, or anything else. Same goes with any other sport, or fps, or board game.

I think the issue here is that a lot of WvW is running about and waiting. That time lost needs to be compensated for somehow, or a lot of people will simply lose interest over time.

Personally, I play for each battle, with the outcome of the war meaning almost nothing to me. I’m satisfied.

I do find it odd to ask for something in PvP though. Winning anything PvP has always been and will likely always be about being better than the others. It’s bragging rights.

I still find sieges to feel awkward at the best of times though, and hopefully, my guild can start participating on a larger scale soon. So, I have plenty to look forward to WvW wise.

If they put rewards in the form of items on winning servers you can say goodbye to population balance. Even more people would just transfer to winning servers and it will become even more boring and lopsided.
Stomping a different server or fighting for a Nr1 spot in your matchup or ladder should be all the reward you want.

WvW is about having fun fighting multiple servers at once. You go out there and try to outplay them whether through strategy, numbers, skill, speed, time zone coverage, or organization. It’s about fun through competition, and the ladder for servers is there in order to try and match servers that are similar in strength. Because really, everybody has a boring week when one server completely dominates a match. Transfers have just screwed that up in the past, seems like it’s slowing down now though.

If you’re not having fun doing this, there are plenty of other things you can do in game or out, and come back to WvW when you can have fun with it again, if that time ever comes.

I don’t really login to play much anymore. I need some sort of carrot to keep playing MMOs for an extended period of time and GW2 doesn’t have it. Since I’m not paying a monthly fee I doubt ANet care much anyway. Their philosophy is obviously that everyone should be equal regardless of how much time and effort you put in. If that’s what their targeted player base want I’m not going to argue against that though. It’s just not my cup of tea.

However, I suspect that they want me to buy their expansions, but if all I’m getting are cosmetic upgrades and new dungeons and BGs without actual rewards I really don’t see myself doing that. Will others? I seriously doubt it.

Op if u want badges and siege eq, do the jumping puzzles which reward you with that.

When your server gets the item drop boost go magic find for awhile and you will reap the rewards of WvW yet again.

Sure a title would be nice or a detailed match history with big break downs would be cool.

WvW is about killing people. The problem with it though it’s WAY too objective driven and there is not many chances for smaller groups or guilds to acomplish much when it’s just 1 zerg vs 1 zerg. The fact you cannot see guilds or names creates no rivarly either, which is a HUGE incentive for people to want to kill over doing stupid objectives.

The problem here is that there will always be more PvE people than PvP. So the trend nowadays is to make PvP like PvE so people who are low skilled based or not interested in PvP feel useful. People who enjoy PvP usually get bored with objectives, then the game, and move on.

WvW does not need any reward, it needs more incentive to kill people to foster content, which is PvP…

That’s funny. I got bored with all the “rewarding” stuff pretty quickly. Run a dungeon 300 times to get X? Yawn. Be a knight in a week long chess game of carnage? Count me in!

I play WvW for the same reason I:
Play FPS’s
Keep playing the same Sonic levels over and over and over
Continue practicing “pro” Smash Bros techniques

I do these things for the internal pleasure of self-improvement and the external pleasure of competition. To be honest, I’m glad WvW is so “unrewarding”. It has less appeal for grinders, and keeps mostly just the people who are in it for the sake of winning.

That being said, if it’s not your cup of tea, that’s cool. There are lots of MMO’s out there for you. GW2 is in the minority of MMO’s for a lot of reasons, and most of those reasons are what keep me playing GW2.

The possibility of physical and mental collapse is now very real.

Not really, if you want skill, then WvW (of any type) is entirely the wrong place to be as you will face uneven numbers / uneven levels of gear, greater differences in regard to lag, etc.

Nor is simply about killing people, like real war you have objectives, if you jus to want to mindlessly kill people play an FPS or arena type game like Bloodline Champions.

Lastly PvP does not mean player killing player, it means player competing against player, there are many ways to compete against each other – e.g if you are defending a keep and your opponent cuts off your supply simply by killing Dollys / taking supply camps against NPCs, whilst you mindlessly KILL MOAR defending your keep that you eventually lose due to lack of supply, then they have out PvPed you.

WvW is the hybrid between PvP and PvE, thus you get a hybrid reward for participating, but not winning (badges buy gear and siege, PvE and PvP respectively)

They will eventually rework the % based bonuses to probably give something more substantial and lasting. The problem with it right now is that on medium/low population servers, you pretty much have to participate in WvW as often as possible to gain those awards, and you get very little time to enjoy them. So the people are earning the rewards for people who don’t participate in WvW.

IMO this could be fixed by pushing the rewards offset by 1 week. So you work hard one week in WvW and crush your bracket, and you reap the rewards the next week.

lol, when you die 30 times and I have over 100 kills I have not been “out pvped” if I lose on the objective. It means the other side was only trying to accomplish the objective because they saw they could not win by any other means. That’s what Pver’s say to make themselves feel better. True, there is a strategy to WvW and objectives are needed, but also there should a FFA element as well. If I am out there with 4 or 5 guys and we are repeatingly killing the guys who are running supply for siege/repair, or killing the people leading the zerg we don’t get kitten for that. If 10 people roll up to an unprotected Doylak and PvE it down your saying they contribute more to the fight than my group actually killing players who are makign the difference? That’s the problem…

This is the problem with PvP. Every PvP encounter in this game is objective based. Getting kitten on, just ingnore the actual PvP and run from objective to objective as you keep rezzing from the spawn because every 30 seconds your dead.

It seems there is already a drop off in population in WvW.
Dedicated WvW guilds are burning themselves out on grand scale.
Many members have put in massive and massive amounts of time into the game to keep position high in the ladder or trying to remain the top server.

But besides bragging rights and hate versus another server there is not much you gain.
Sure the thrill of the hunt and kill is rewarding, but after 600 hours even the most epic battles start to feel normal.

WvW needs a little more cosmetic stuff / ranks / whatever to show your such a dedicated WvW player.
Iam getting tired of seeing the same colors / servers / players banging on my door.
Dont get me wrong i love GW2, but i only play it for WvW and it is becomming a little more boring with each day passing.

Weekends are great midweek is huge dropp off and often outmanned buff.
1 months ago i was standing in a 5 hour queue, it seems that iam also logging in less and less.

If you are out there killing people running supply then you are playing objective based PvP correctly and should be happy, you are after all killing people.

If people kill your Dollys unopposed (and the dollys are actually needed for say upgrading a keep you’ve just captured), then your team has failed and the other team has out PvPed you by doing a better job of organisation than your team (someone on your team should of been protecting the dollys), if you can’t cope with organisation / strategy / communication then this style of PvP is not for you, there are plenty of more simple minded PvP games where you can indiscriminately kill without having to think beyond that.

As for why it is objective based, well without objectives it would be an entirely different type of PvP and the whole maps / keeps / etc, would be pointless and it wouldn;t actually resemble warfare, where shockingly enough they have objectives, you seem to want to play an FPS or a fighting game…

And to repeat, PvP stands for player versus player, ‘versus’ means in opposition to or in competition with, it does not mean ‘hitting the other guy over the head with a sword’.

And to repeat, PvP stands for player versus player, ‘versus’ means in opposition to or in competition with, it does not mean ‘hitting the other guy over the head with a sword’.

lol, If there were enough people to protect every single supply camp on each side I would have no complaints about PvP. My point is if I am killing the people who are making the difference and 10 idiots spent 15 minutes running to the most remote supply camp to kill a dolyak…who’s helping more? And beleive me, it took much more communication and strategy to burn a keep in AoC than it does in this game. The only way to kill players in AoC was to actually do it the hard way and PvP, seige equipment was only for destroying walls, it did dick to players. If players were bad, they lost. There was no fail safe baddie welfare like cannons and balista’s to make up for lack of skill. Gear differnece? Does not really matter if 20 people come at 5 does it…

Hell, I can’t even see the opposing side’s names or guild tags, what kind of PvP does not let you pick out your targets or grief specific people…I’m sorry, but being considered ’pro" in WvW all it takes is the ability to follow a zerg, put down a few siege weapons, build them, and stifle the supply going into the objective while keeping your rams and trebs up.

It’s really not as complicated as it sounds, and strategy or not, when it’s 2:1 or 3:1 ratio’s in numbers you don’t need strategy…just a commander or two so people can zerg.
