Now, I don’t know about structured pvp, but in WvW I have a serious problem with the name display of enemies. Showing me (or them, as most cases happen) a big red sign saying “Here’s an enemy!” is a bit much. There’s no hiding in the bushes, or any of that. Maybe it would be a bit more organic if player signs only appeared as the player was being highlighted in WvW. Case and point, taking my level 4 ranger (I know, whole problem right there) just to harass some control points and caravans, when I notice a bunch of enemies going the other way. They didn’t see me, so I tried to hide behind a big boulder with my little asura body and wait for them to pass. Nope. A ranger picked out my name plate and came by to tell me how much she hated my face. With Arrows. There’s just little nuances like this that would make WvW so much more than just harass, zerg, rinse, repeat.

That’s a fair point. I agree; trying to hide does suck. I’m not sure it wouldn’t make general fighting harder when you couldn’t at a glance identify untagged enemies though.

You cannot know if they saw you or not. It sounds like that ranger was the only one who spotted you.
Body size doesn’t count when hiding, everyone basically has the same ‘hitbox’, so maybe while you though your asura was completely behind the rock, it wasn’t and the name was displayed to that ranger.

Not displaying name tags would give smaller races (and body sizes) an advantage.

You maybe got unlucky & were spotted before hiding.
I camera pan all the time whilst running, looking for roamers.
You can hide easily at times, depending on terrain.
I`ve often /sleep behind a wall right next to a mass zerg without being spotted.

The enemy can still see it in chat that you went to sleep. If it’s a zerg they probably saw it, but decided to ignore you. Killing 1 player is not a zerg priority.

When I run around I also look around and I often see roamers, but I don’t go after them all, why would I? Have better things to do :P

But yeah you CAN hide, but using an emote to do so will only let the enemy know you’re near. It’s basically a “HEY GUYS I’M NEAR COME FIND ME PLZ?”

If you know your server has a long name, don’t stand near the edge of whatever you’re hiding behind. It’s just common sense really

three things that need to happen in this game for pvp to actually be fun

1. Remove enemy name plates. Allow people to use bushes, terrain for tactics.

2. Remove tab targeting. This is so people cant just spam tab to find you.

3. Remove non target attacks, or damage. All a zerg of melee has to do is run to your body and attack, not actually target you. If they are going to allow for non targeting attacks, then make ranged infinite with aim like an FPS.

Sadly, none of this will happen.

How about if you are hiding behind a tree or any object where the entire body is actually being obstructed from the view of the other person then your name tag should disappear?

While I agree somewhat to the op, it would make asuras op.

Still it would be funny to see 50 man zergs of only asuras.

Asura would be WAY OP if this happened. LoL
