Need another 80 for wvw...suggestions?
juz play u feel fun to play
I play my ele in WvW all the time since you can do pretty much anything.
Roaming works although it’s difficult (but since you have a Mesmer for that it should be ok). Zerg frontline works if you build tanky but zerg backline is the most fun. Imo ele is probably the best zerg backline profession right now since you provide everything a zerg needs, CC, boons, most combo fields and high AoE damage.
If you like switching attunements ele is a good choice.
If you like switching attunements ele is a good choice.
^^ . Well thank goodness for that, I thought if you like switching attunements … warrior was the way to go.
@ OP …. I have 1 of everything except guard (beta class), and ranger.
I have to say, outside of mesmer …. Engi was the most enjoyable. The sheer amount of options is so much fun to play with.
I have fun on my ele too, but it’s limiting in terms of options atm. Your great GvG/zerg support and have some roaming dueling options …. but that about it. Engi’s just seemed like more fun, bombs, grenades, tiny dunks, wrench pulls, flame thrower, elixirs just so many variations you can come up with.
In the end I’d suggest you think about your playstyle (wvw, gvg,duels/raoming, or havoc) what do you do nightly? Have a look at some of the videos out there and see if anything helps weigh in your decision.
As you have a mesmer, I only suggest engi if you want to learn more and play with many options, eles I found to be more about learning rotations in team play. Again, I’d sugggest having a look at some videos of the better players within the profession and see if anything sticks.
My two favorites are Warrior and Thief. The Warrior is ridiculously strong right now in solo, skirmish and zerg play. The hammer is just crazy fun to play in a group setting and the warrior probably has the most diverse useful weapon set of any class in the game. The thief is a great roamer and good in skirmish but isn’t particularly useful in zergs… much like your mesmer I suspect.
The guardian is hands down the best zerg class in the game. So much so half of a strong zerg is probably guardian, but they aren’t very good solo. My thief opens them up like a tin can and I have never seen one that isn’t relatively easy to beat solo. As soon as they get 2+ friendlies around them, they become near unkillable machines when played well.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Well I can only comment on Engineers as that’s my favoured class for wvw but not because its easy but because this class is very versatile in the wvw scenario. Though it becomes a click fest in roaming mode so I favour going with groups and siege as that’s where they excel. Healing bombs, throwing bunches of grenades around, flamethrowers, turrets its just a fun class and I have a good time though Im not uber in anyway. I will say this class is mental when tower or keep attacking/defending and they are getting some love with next update.

My main is a mesmer. I have all classes at 80. I’m like you, I greatly enjoy the versatility of the mesmer — you can roam or jump in the big epic fights.
After mesmer, my most favourite is necro. But until you master it, it’s a bit of a trick to do solo (although I have seen some spectacular necro roamers). I need to get better at it, but I enjoy it greatly in a big zerg. I rarely zerg, but when I do, I tend to break out the necro.
Depends on your play style and what your looking for. I main necro and run solo mostly. Camps are easy to take even with 1 or 2 defenders. If you show up to an even fight it turns fairly uneven quickly with one proper burst.
Ive been thinking of getting an 80 ele so when times call for taking out a enemy treb I could just swap chars go over and rain hell down on it. But thats me thinking of something useful for my 2nd in WvW.
Obviously I would say go necro. The map is yours to do as you please and very powerful in many zerg situations.
Thanks everyone. All great feedback and I greatly appreciate it.
All excellent points on all classes. All sound incredibly appealing.
Makes me wish I had one of everything.
Guess its time to get work, and leveling all of them…hehe
Cheers everyone.
