That would be really difficult. They would have to totally rework that map. I do not see this happening. They need to fix balance and stability for WvW above and beyond anything else in WvW.

This is something that has been brought up numerous times, and there are many problems that prevent gliding from being implemented in wvw.

-The maps would need to be redesigned and have no fly zones around all towers and keeps to prevent people from being able to fly in and out, which would close off a lot of space that players could fly in.
-Gliding would have to be disabled in combat so you cant just fly off during fights.
-The desert bl and other maps are still available to non-hot owners, who do not have access to gliders. Would there be a gliding wxp track, skins, gliding skills, etc. It just creates more issues.
-If a player is already in midflight, they can only be attacked by ranged skills, which is unfair to melee players.
-Basically gliding would only be usable in the spawn area, leaving it essentially useless in the rest of the map.
-And as many have already stated, the developers time and resources are better spent on more important projects.

A better option for the dbl in my opinion is possibly to add a fall damage reduction buff to bloodlust/monuments that would take effect for all players on the server that own the buff.

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.

My main problem with the no gliding in WvW, is because in the rest of the game, you’re getting conditioned/programmed to use gliding to save yourself from falling down. So many stupid deaths because you stop thinking for a moment and try to press you jump button to glide the last bit, so you don’t die, and… splat…

Suggested before to make a variant for WvW, that is just a small parachute (that looks like wings for ease, and no need for new graphics). That you can use to fall slower, just so you don’t have to paint the floor in a lovely shade of Scarlet Red. Stuff it into a WXP track or whatever, but at this stage, most people are so used to just using the glider to tap the jump button near the bottom to halt the fall enough to not die.

Gliding could work, but none of the current maps would support it. You’d have to develop a new map from scratch, and the last time we got one of those a vocal minority screamed bloody murder.

Both times we got a new map for WvW everyone just hated it. Don’t forget EotM was created to be a WvW map even if just as a lobby for queues.

You guys know I’m a grinch – and usually a dead grinch when I once again forgot that one can’t glide in wvw.
Anyway: The problems wvw has got are to a good part because of some stuff a few wanted, like first person view (who uses it?), action camera (did anyone really ask for this?) – siege doesn’t really work since. Also range increase because of some poor rangers and eles which rendered defensive siege useless. Now add gliders because 2 people asked (you and me) and we face another thing that’s killing wvw.
WOOO HOOO HOOO I want gliders in wvw – lets go out with a bang.

Problem with gliding is it trivializes defenses. Flight itself changed the face of war in the 20th century. I’ll leave it at that as it’s probably a very interesting history research topic. The basic premise is you could fly over the enemy’s lines of defense and walls and attack their home directly.

In WvW gliding would have very much the same effect. The maps weren’t designed to take gliding into account. Even the desert borderlands wasn’t designed that way. There are many supposed ways that you could alter the maps and gameplay to make gliding less impactful but the end result is ultimately detrimental to WvW.

You’ll just have to break free of your conditioning or eat the dirt like Wile E Coyote.

Right now gliding is disabled in your home instances. All that really needs to be done is have gliding disabled while within any Keep, or SM. But as noted above, that would also take time programming and truly there are much more important things to work on. Not sure what those are since it mostly seems to be things we’re not asking for.. lol… but, ah well… time to go shoot something… or someone… again!

Perfectly fine and balanced, game is all about ktrain anyway…it feels that is something that Anet would not mind to add to their game…

Altough having a defined path for gliding aka glide scouting would be nice, and it would fit the desert BL , start in garri and make a clock wise path, with 5 scouts max gliding.

Player while in glide cannot land nor quit scout gliding until futfill the scouting path, players could have a flag to alert enemies on map etc.

And a reward at the end depending of the number of enemies discovered.

And in case you can’t get up a hill real quick and have some obstacles in front of you, you won’t be able to catch them. Sounds like something that will come.
Lets just have 1 server maps so we can have karma train 24/7.
