What is the point of strategic defense nodes if you can just mesmer teleport in 50+? Seems legit. I know its a two way street, might as well roll a mesmer.

You do that, then realize the amount of communication required to effectively port in a large group of players. Or learn how easy it is to counter by spotting a portal and blowing it up with AOE’s so the enemy incoming ports into straight burst damage.

or sweeping for messmers to stop the portal in the first place….

Sweeping for Mesmers isn’t that difficult… though there are plenty of other problems with portals, especially with the player culling issue still in full swing. No class/ability should be an absolute necessity on the battlefield, but Mesmers and portals are just that.

Even if the portal is spotted, your AoEs are still only going to hit five players. Player-clumping remains a very effective way to mitigate damage and maximize group buffs/healing, which is one of the things that makes portals extremely powerful.
