Hey guys after playing wvw since launch and always wanted to be a commander. The time has come and I fainally have enough for the book. After having ago this morning we took a tower and a few camps but its a lot different and harder than I thought. I’m dedicated to getting this right but I just want to hear from more experienced commanders about tips and stratagies to go for.

The number one thing that makes a good commander is the people that follow them. Make sure they are happy and you will be happy too.

Dont lead them to pointless causes, 90% of people do not want to siege for 3 hours to get a keep/tower.
Dont run in circles camp capping and farming wxp, albeit good sometimes, if prolonged can lead to boredom.
Do ask your followers if they are having fun and what they would like to do, if it possible, do it.
Be aware of the map and what is changing, you are no longer a foot soldier, your job is not to sit on a ram, nor is to aoe the walls, your job is to observe all 4 maps and make choices of where to go, and how to go about it.

If you get tunnel vision and get carried away chasing a group, you may have a bad time.
Nothing boosts morale like a good stack and ambush of forces trying to take your stuff and advancing into their territory.

Thank you these are some good tips. I think I do need to get out if that idea if being in the fight all the time. Would you say it’s better to stick to you main plan even if a huge Zerg appear it retreat to try and keep people alive.

Well, you have to balance it between keeping your followers happy and doing what you can for your server.

Try to identify what problems you see with the current commanders on your server and strive to be better than them in those fields. Are they not enough vocal? Or are they too vocal, raging whenever something doesn’t go their way?

Also if you are a PUG commander don’t way point unless you die.

Ever.

I am not commander but am very goood as follower know what is good or bad idea commander can do.

-Don’t pick follower to die.
-Boost your team morale warm up your people and learn about them PUG type is not same…some PUG is good killing some PUG good caping some PUG good to attack tower some PUG is good defender.
-If you have guild mate it not hard call them use them for your goal.
-Sometime you must read a game know to forward know to fallback don’t push forward to death or get wipe without reason that drop morale fast.
-Don’t blame people on map/teamchat it ruin all emotion if failed just use wisely word to make a next move blame each other not help…go to cool your head off.
-Have plan B(Alway do).
-If have another commander in map co-op with them for better effect.
-Strick your time to play as commander you play for60min 90-120min or somewhat you can take responsible when you on as commander(ask them first if you need play more late or go early) DO NOT open icon and get some bandit kill after that you yell"chittt am out of this crap"then close that icon it moron 25stack.
-Give some reason some PUG don’t know what did you think and not mean PUG is stupid if you give some little reason PUG understand you plan they will do something impressive.
Don’t only say stack me on me go here go there this that kill all left kill all right kill all center kill them all yay!!
if you have time to type just put a little reason for them like
“we need camp for fix tower”,“N camp is bad need hand”,“Kill that bad guy back up”.
They will know what you mean instant.

Leave on a high note.

Players will remember your failures forever, so leave them with a good situation. I don’t often commander up, usually only when there is a bad situation on our borderland and no other commander is around. Think “early morning hours”.

If I can rally our team to get our points back and turn our map back to our color I very happily step down and go back to my usual routine.

Get on TS or Vent and actually talk with your server’s active commanders. Be cooperative and be willing to execute requests they make. For example, they might want you to take a small group to flip the south camp, and escort dolyaks to Bay. It may not seem as glorious as manning siege at Bay, but I am telling you, your server will not hold Bay long if your supply isn’t getting through.

Doing stuff like that will not only give you experience commanding a less complicated aspect of wvw, but will also help your server achieve success, and will earn you a little respect among the commanders, as well as the players that follow you.

Also, be willing to put your tag away in situations where there are already enough tags on the board. In most cases, your server shouldn’t need more than 2 or 3 commanders displaying tags. Sometimes, the one actually running the show isn’t even displaying.

These are some really good tips tha lnks a lot guys. I know I’m not the type to rage at people I’d rather keep giving out positive vibes and messages. I think I just need to learn the best way of taking things and how to keep people with me. A lot of the times atm ill be running with a big Zerg then loose everyone.
