New PVPer need help picking a class
your post doesnt make any sense. you want to know what classes are “pretty good” to play in pvp but not hear/discuss about what is the best? what should we judge on then given your zero information? coolest class name or what? also what pvp are you looking for? realm vs realm (zerging, roaming, guild runs) or spvp? in general in gw2 all classes have a lot of options, there is only a real distinction in melee / ranged which you dont seem to have any preferences about and most classes can do both anyways. best to watch introduction videos to all classes and rule out the ones you dont like i guess. like if you are not happy with npcs fighting on your side you can pretty much rule out rangers, necros and mesmers.

Level up each profession to level 2, then go directly in structured PvP, make a quick build that you can get from this forum, and test all the professions out for yourself.
You can go here to get a general idea of what each profession does: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/

Why don’t you give spvp a quick go of each class you don’t need do any leveling or gear grinding. The mechanics of spvp is quite a lot different to WvW but you can at least get a feel for class mechanics.
It does depend on what you actually want to do in wvw too. General consensus is that engineers have one of the highest skill caps in the game if that’s what you are trying to go for, although the versitility of the elementalist might draw you in.
Do you prefer to play direct damage or DoT’s, support, control or glass cannon because while every class can do a bit of each but some are better than others. It just depends on build because you can be a tanky support guardian or glass cannon guardian with a simple change of traits (for minimal cost) and armor.
Nar: I love that it will take me time and money to
reach the same level I’m at right now… …said no one, ever.
Sorry if I was unclear, I just meant I didn’t want some to say this is the most op class therefore pick this one.
I think I will do mostly world pvp with some bgs as well.
I don’t mind fighting with np s if the AI is ok in this game. I don’t have much knowledge of gw2 which is why I asked for help picking a class.
I don’t have any guild or many friend in this game yet so need to be effective on mynownnor with randoms etc
I just want to have fun , another detail I forgot to mention is I don’t generally like glass cannon unless they have decent escapes. I usually like to be in the thick of it.

I don’t mind if it direct or dots just want to be able,to hold my own. I love my uh dk in wow with his dots though so that may be an option.
If you go playing some structured pvp (bgs) you are automatically leveled to the cap and given top level gear for the istance, so you can try out how that class/build will work when top level.
All classes are good, with self healing and can stand their own. With traits and skill choice you can differentiate a bit and play them in few but very different ways (IE: the ranger is supposed to be ranged but works almost better with dual melee set, elementalist can be played both with staff/ranged dmg or with double dagger close range high mobility and so on)
If you want to have a quick look at how the various classes look/do in combat i’d advise you check some pvp videos on youtube.
So to give you a quick and pointless overlook you have:
Elementalist wich is the wizard of the situation casting spells and kitten
necromancer which makes aoe marks and all that and has a lot of cc and dot dmg and utilities
mesmer which creates copies of yourself to deal dmg / deceive enemies while stealthing, hiding, doing lots of bullkitten stuff that gets painfull and make people rage a lot
warrior which imho is kinda OP and hits like a truck, stuns, has high armor and hp even while going full dmg
thief which stealths and jumps around and all the kind of stuff rogues do in most mmorpgs
engi which is tricky and lands mines and throws granades and mines and sets up turrets and is really a pain in the kitten
Anyway they’re all viable and can stand their own, again just give a look on youtube and you’ll get an idea

As you probably know, there’s no holy trinity in Guild Wars 2, so each profession can hold their own. Meaning a medium armor profession can be build to have more survivability, then a heavy armored profession. Most professions can do condition damage (DoT) as well, so that’s not a really good guide point either.
What you want to think about, is how you like to play. The Mesmer is deceptive and mischief, the Guardian is protective and supportive, the Necromancer is durable and possessive, the Ranger is controlling and evasive, the Elementalist is versatile and compositely, the Warrior is offensive and sturdy, the Thief is cunning and swiftly, the Engineer is mechanical and elaborating.

I think either Warrior/Guardian/Engineer would be the closest for what you’re looking for.
I’d say go with Engineer to have a more unique experience
I actually started and necro and eng. I think necro seems really fun so far going to,try the eng I started at weekend if I don’t get carried away with necro. Just need to work out how it works now before I pvp.
