I’m a new player looking into getting to wvw as soon i level but i’m scared of entering it. The wvw in youtube is what scares me; where instant kills by some classes are everywhere. Stealth, burst, shatter and condition are all i see. Too much of it is what scares me the most.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t be there but it’s just way too much especially if it is not challenging to the other player. Mostly to new player like me who would like a longer fight.
I am enjoying the game a lot especially the leveling experience when unlocking skills, traits etc… at certain level. I feel arenanet is doing a good job at putting challenge elements in lower level experience.
What excites me is preparing my training in lower level for tougher challenge against other players in a larger scale-wvw.
I feel wvw is not challenging at all; it just too much; it takes the fun out and put scares players, especially i think new players as well.
I applaud arenenet for doing a good job in putting challenge in lower level experience and hope they do the same for wvw.
I believe wvw should be about putting out your hard training from lower level to the test but not having too much damage for no reason at all.
What is the point of going through hard training and only to find out you already won,,, with a simple 1-3 hits?
Again, i’m not saying wvw should be easy but make it so that you earned it..
My suggestion for fix- reduce all food buffs by 50% and reduce all instant damage kills by 50%-70%. (I know arenanet can do better but it’s just my suggestion.
Other than that, that’s all i have to say.
sorry English is my second language

Lol don’t worry the fights arent as unforgiving as they sound, with this combat system fights will last quite a while if you are evenly matched in skill even when fighting burst classes and can result in tense stalemates with the heal skill available for all classes.
Whereas in archeage for example fights are over after the first stun, 3 second fights no matter the builds are.
the stuff on youtube is cherrypicked pieces people use to display a build or “skills” etc, for every quick kill that person posts you dont see the 10times they get wrecked in a fight. So dont let that fool you. WvW is a learning process, the best way to get into it is to join a group and follow a commander, also voice comms, mainly ts3 is very important. It will help you understand what is going on and help you not get lost. Ive helped a lot of ppl in your shoes who were afraid of wvw for various reasons, and some who were just pve purists, now all they do is wvw. So dont be afraid to just get out there and go step by step, your gonna die sometimes, your gonna get steamrolled by zergs, BUT you get to do it to
No reason to be intimidated by WvW players. Will you get blown up seemingly from nowhere… yes. Will some players seem unkillable… yes. Will you get frustrated and want to hurl your mouse across the room… probably. Will you rejoice when you beat the crap out two other players simultaneously from sheer skill alone… it will be one of the better feelings of your life.
We all had to start from somewhere and the best way to get “good” is to just go in there and start dying. Eventually you will get comfortable, improve and one day be cracking skulls like the rest of us.
I have a feeling that, in general, Food/Utility buffs actually improve survivability and lengthens the average duration of small scale encounters.
OP’s feelings of being overwhelmed are understandable but it’s a matter of perception that doesn’t require any fix, just more play time and research on his/her part.
There is no “training” through playing the lower levels. For over half the level experience you have fewer than 3 traits!
I recommend you k-train EotM until level 80 and start to play for real then (or k-train WvW as that’s what the experience is like nowadays).
I’m liking the roles of the Guardian class .. so I will now chose Guardian as the challenging class of the rest and as my class of choice. (not saying Guardian class is Perfect but i admire their design and their devotion as Protectors and Defenders.. " Guardians specialize in protective and defensive magic. A deep sense of loyalty to their allies fuels their passion and power" http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guardian) ]
I will delete the other classes. Thanks for your advice as well .
see you in wvw soon..

Gua is an excelent choice! Always welcome in wvw, pvp and pve. You can play it as a zerg fighter and as a roamer.
My suggestion: lvl to 80, check the net for a build (use metabattle for example), gear up in exotic and dont fear the lose. You will fight against more experienced players whos know all of your skills and you wont know any of them.
Just try to stay with your commander and don’t worry too much about dying. That’s just natural and every player goes through that, even the ones who seem unkillable.
Just focus on having fun, and if you want to get better just try to figure out why you failed and what you can to not fail again the next time. This might include tweaking your build (changing your traits and gear) or just changing the way you approach a certain class.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and if you encounter any rude people, just block them.
Edit: meta builds are important but most of the time they’re made for more advanced players. You can follow them but if you notice there’s a certain ability you’re not confortable with, there’s nothing wrong with replacing it with another that fits your needs.

A great man once said
“You have nothing to fear, but fear itself”
so get in there and start killing

Cannot agree enough. Running solo in WvW requires a lot of skill but man, the feeling you get when you pull off strong wins against other players is amazing.
Just a few suggestions for the OP/comments.
Don’t get overwhelmed with WvW, there may not seem it, however there is a lot to playing in WvW. (It goes beyond player build and class, and pushes into how cooperative players are with one another, along with knowing your enemy, siege, terrain, gears, knowing maps, locations, abbreviation’s, ect…)
It take a while for some to pick up, and others learn quicker, however WvW is not only based off 1 players skill or another’s alone. However in fights a players skill can make a huge difference.
A big tip:
Try asking those on your server in wvw if the server has a central voice communication set. Many times you will find people on a servers cental voice comms, who will be more than happy to help you learn about wvw, in addition to those who use wvw as a quick way to communicate information/movement and fights.
Now as for being a lower level in wvw, some may yell about it. (Mainly due to the rally system and points per kill.) Lower levels will not normally do as much damage as a lvl 80, and will take more damage then fully geared lvl 80s. However you can still do things, you just have to be very aware of everything around you at all times, more-so then a lvl 80 would need to be.
Don’t worry about dying. If you are uplevel, you probably can’t win a 1v1, but that’s not terribly important. There are lots of other useful things you can do. I’ve got plenty of experience but get wrecked all the time when roaming, it just doesn’t stop me.
It only hurts for a second
Not sure why you’d delete your other characters.
And if you want to watch some WvW video to get a better feel for what you’d be up against try and find some unedited streams.
If you dont want to die with a guardian simply run a full pvt gear with shouts and stay near your blob/zerg.
I’d say don’t be afraid to die. You will learn different aspects from it.
Thank You! for advice. A guild accept me yesterday and i having a lot fun. They have many thief to keep me alive and warrior, guardian. They save me many and it is nice to have guild to care for me. When i 80 level, they will take me pvp to teach me more to not die easy and be strong. They laugh and say i should afraid of thief more; stealth too easy kill, cheat. Already bad experience with stealth.
I appreciate all suggestion advice again.

Sounds like you found a great guild. Have fun!!
wvw is social.
dying in wvw helps you a lot, gives you incentive to analyze your build and what the opponent did, this way you can have a better understanding of the do’s and dont do’s and this will help you develop better skills.
getting killed is a fine skill in wvw. You find the enemy by standing in their way, camps, and getting killed by them. You have about 4 min to tell your crew where they went.
The best way to refine your build in wvw at the top tiers is to ask in map chat. Join a guild who will advise you.
