Hello,

Just my 2 cents.

All professions are good for all types of WvW (Zerg, 1 v 1, small group, roaming) if you master them.

If you want to start WvW and have doubts which profession to chose here they are from easiest to hardest to master:

Warrior
Guardian
Necromancer
Ranger
Elementalist
Thief
Engineer
Mesmer

Hello,

Just my 2 cents.

If you want to start WvW and have doubts what profession to chose here they are from easiest to hardest to master:

Warrior
Guardian
Necromancer
Ranger
Elementalist
Thief
Engineer
Mesmer

Well I would say:
1.Warrior, really really nothing hard here, just so called worker build( shotus, hammer / sword+wh, balance stance, banner and defiance stance). The only hard job for u is to banner in time( before enemy finish downed dude).
2.Guardian( easier to play than warrior due to 2 surv skills that suit GWEN builds). 2. place, cos u need to keep stabillity in order with rest of ur guards and maintain boons.
3.Ranger here – what is hard in spamming 1.1.1. from safe range and rapid fire? Also he have leaps to run awya and basically don’t need to fight in close range( he have higher range than ele’s reflecting shield).
4.Thief – just jump on backs, kill, get invi, run, repeat.
5.Necromancer – why is he hard? Bombing with staff is easy, just put aoe, same for wells, but when it is comming to surviving u really need skills to do so when focus party sit at you. Why? Because u don’t have leaps to run away or any skill to jump out of fight( let’s hope gs change something). Also u need to remember skilsl and suit them to sitations( for example pt plague up when ur meele is engaging to blind and chill foes).
6.Engineer – U need really good build to do something in fights and in order to be usefull u can’t take any surviving skill which makes it really hard to carry on. Also u take retaliation dmg fro mevery skill – not like necro with his aoes.
7. Elementalis – “Which autment now? Do they need water or fire at the moment? Everyone want to kill me?!” Actually Elementalists have hardest moments due to massive focus on them – wipe em wout and enemy won’t have outheal, same goes for necros tho but they are getting killed due to their dmg. Also they need to know the situation perfectly and choose skills wisely. Also players playing this calss need to think very fast and remember a lot of skills, macros and key bindings to be best.

The problem with listing professions from easiest to hard is that there is difference between how hard a class is to play in theory and how hard it is to play in practice.

Warriors aren’t hard to play in concept. You land your bursts, stay alive, and use warhorn and shouts as needed. In practice though, surviving as a Warrior can take a lot of skill. Put a new player in a 30vs30 fight as a Warrior and chances are that player is going to die very quickly. The “skill” from playing a Warrior is being able to survive in a massive battle. Even in full Solider, a Warrior can go down in seconds if caught in the wrong spot.

Range classes, while not having the defenses of a frontliner, can generally just stand back and cast. Positioning and dropping your bombs in the right place still takes skill, but the pressure is usually less.

I find Ele a lot easier to play in T1 than a Warrior. If you get caught as an Ele you have both Lightning flash and Mist Form as “oh crap” buttons. Shout Warriors don’t have any real “oh crap” buttons and are required to be in the middle of the enemy all the time. Passive defenses only go so far when you have 30 enemies throwing fireballs and stuff at you.

Agreed.

I actually found my guardian much easier to play in WvW, whether zerg or small group roaming, than my ele, necro, warrior and ranger. It works nicely for backline support. But thats mainly due to the build I’ve chosen for him.

I think Guardian and Warrior were much easier before the stability change. Now it’s easy to get stuck in a bunch of wells and die immediately.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

Yep, after stability changes classes that run in the melee-train got harder, especially if you’re outnumbered, because then your stability gets ripped really quickly in comparison to how often you can get it back up.

I can say from experience that warrior has plenty of little niches to fill before you’ve ‘mastered’ it. Timing and decision making with your CC, shouts, banner, condition clear, and mobility is more important here than with most other professions.
I wouldn’t call them the easiest to master by any means, but I would say that they’re the easiest to pick up and run with without much experience.
But opinions will differ and I can’t say much for the rest, having not played them nearly as much.

The issue with a question like this, is that certain builds on so called “harder” professions, can be easier to play the certain builds on so called “easier” professions".

I never liked casting such a wide net on professions when calling them easy, overpowered, hard, or underpowered. Build and play style define how something plays infinitely more then a profession as a whole.

- All of the classes have a very high skill ceiling.

- Warrior and Ele have the lowest skill floor. As in it’s very easy to bring yourself up to the level of neutral or small credit to team.

- Mesmer, Engineer and Thief have the highest skill floor. As in if you don’t know what you’re doing, you are a rally bot and a liability to your team/side.

My Easiest to hardest list in Blobwars including efficiency with player effort:
*Necromancer
-They do incredible aoe damage, gather life force fast enough to handle a single roamer or two if they try to get to you + you are not alone in the backline, mobility is not a problem in a warzone, if you all lose the fight you go down with your melee train, thats fair enough.

*Warrior
– Just an extremely simple kit imo combined with highest armor and vitality.

*Guardian
– Like the warrior, minus the vitality.

*Elementalist
– Like the necromances except you cant really fend of a sniping thief/ranger/mesmer.

*Mesmer
– Its getting harder to be efficient down here, but you have plenty of utility and you are a relatively good sniper.

*Ranger
– Good and safe sniper, minus for being almost entirely single target unless lining up foes and excluding your single AoE ability.

*Engineer
– No matter build, you will do decent, but you are not as strong on anything except being able to do >everything< to a limited extent.

*Thief
– You are probably the highest hitting sniper out there, but being melee and that glassy, with survival relying on evades(dodges&evadeframes) and stealth (which doesnt save you from all the projectiles and circles of death) is hard due to not engaging an isolated target, everyone got friends in dem blobs running back to assist their backline.

For roaming its more simple, easiest to hardest, also including efficiency with effort :

  • Thief
    – Stealth, mobility and evades often lets you get the jump on an enemy & get away.
  • Mesmer
    -Stealth, some mobility, clones are relatively useful for distraction..
  • Ranger
    -Power rangers range, condi rangers durability.
  • Elementalist
    -Good healing, durability and mobility + AoE for 1vX.
  • Warrior
    -Mobility almost on par with thief, durable and high damage.
  • Guardian
    -Durable while able to go full damage, strong burst combo.
  • Engineer
    -Durable vs power only, good AoE and CC, decent mobility.
  • Necromancer
    -Relatively durable with full DS, can be hard to get Life force, bad stability and mobility though good damage.

It’s hardly forever, even using PU, stealth utilities/weapon skills. I do find my mesmer easiest to play in a zerg, though. You’re tagging along for the most part, and waiting to hear a call for veil/portal/time warp. Hardly ever go down if the group wipes. I like escapes. I find any backline easier to play, as commanders often forget about them and expect you to fend for yourself. I suppose since I learned wvw on ele and mesmer, I have a hard time staying on tag when playing guardian or warrior.

So I would say mesmer is easiest, especially for a newbie to learn wvw on. You have many escapes, can stay ranged, and people are fairly happy as long as you bring your utilities; there’s not as much pressure to stay on tag and do specific things.

My list would be much different from the OP’s.

As an ele you have a lot of escape skills and it’s easy to learn. The main problem, which makes it hard for new players in zergs, is positioning the waterfield and call this out in ts. Until you have mastered this, you will see a lot of people running out of you precious big water. And a new player will often hear complains about the non-vocal ele’s.

As a necro, I’d say we’re middle somwehere. We have a ridiculously easy role spamming wells on queue, but defensively we are royally screwed running zerker gear with no stunbreakers; no stability; no blocks or evades; no invuls; no escapes/leaps and no vigor for dodges. We literally only have positioning and Death “Two hp bars zomg amazing” Shroud to save our squishy kitten.

Admittedly, that takes us surprisingly far, but sometimes in a blue moon you just really wish you had something to actually avoid damage or unstun you… I mean, if I took stunbreakers or defensive utilities, I’m left with what – spamming marks on the enemy? Yeah, what a great contribution I am to my server now.
