We’re may be getting a new map on top of the other fixes and stuff related to WvWvW in Jan and Feb.
So i was thinking … since they wont change the Borderlands meta (meta: yea they’re all the same and every server has it own borderland which make total of 3) i thought that it may be : New Eternal Battlegrounds Alike Map(copy/paste rework?)
The idea is to have a new map with Stonemist alike Castle and 3 keeps+camps in differently art-designed map or even map with 2-3 castles this time which will take the heat off the "main castle" which is currently happening in EB. (Tropical map anyone? e.g. lost shores)
On top of that since they introduced NPC involved siege mechanics (Break out events) now we may expect to see more NPC involved stuff in WvWvW.

If there’s a new (read: extra) map in WvW, I’d expect it to be significantly smaller than the existing maps. I doubt they’d want to spread the population more thinly over five large maps instead of four. But we shall see.
Have they definitely said that all three BL will remain identical? I can see the reasons for keeping them the same, but one obvious way to get new maps whilst keeping the same number of total maps would be to make every borderland slightly different.
I’d prefer for each color to have a unique map instead of 3 copies of the same map, but beggars can’t be choosers.
I’m hoping they introduce a population distribution graph for WvW so you can see you servers performance relative to population differences across the four maps. Maybe normalize the serverwide rewards recieved from WvW relative to server population if they haven’t done so already. And of course putting their own ideas into improving the map. If you look at what happened to AV it went to crap because of ideas from people. You look at WC3 custom maps and they have improved over time because of the artists ideas. One of them became independent and became huge.
Only touch borderlands when I want to do the jump puzzle there. Spend most of my time in eternal battlegrounds. More unique maps would perk my interest to not stick to the main map.

Have to agree with this. If adding more maps or making the current ones bigger folks will only be more scattered making it PvD on many servers unless you go on a quest to find enemies.
Never understood why folks were asking for more or bigger maps, this isn’t sPvP where you need a variety of maps for short matches to keep it interesting. And there are already enough folks new to WvW complaining about the long running distances (adding more WP’s isn’t an option either imo because it will then just become a teleporting game).
There is no new upcoming maps, this was confirmed by the game designers in a interview with a GW radio show not so long ago on the subject of upcoming WvW changes.
They specifically said designing a new map from scratch would take upwards of 6 months and its not a priority to add new cosmetic content when there’s still much to do with the current maps.
They also confirmed matches are staying at 1 week perm.

Not sure if this is the interview you are talking about, but Colin actually made this response to his thread that he started about it. Now this doesn’t mean that they are hard at work with new maps RIGHT NOW, but it also does not rule out the possibility that something is in the works.
Hmm, well on the one hand we may be getting a new wvw map and on the other hand there will be “no new regions”.

I’d love this too .. each with their unique vantage points … Would mean a lot more exploration/learning curve of each team’s map and think it would make gameplay more interesting — what works on one map doesn’t on another, etc …

What works on one map will end up working better then what works on the other two, and a static terrain advantage can snowball over a week match.
Numbers is the biggest advantage always, people have a way of overcoming obstacles. In daoc the home maps were all different and there never seemed to be a large advantage.

Agreed but if they were to do this (which I doubt is in the game plan) they would have to very careful to not make 1 map easier/harder to defend then the other 2.
DAoC frontier maps weren’t as (I want to say detailed but not sure if thats the correct term) as GW2 maps, they were all pretty easy to get to and straight forward.
Don’t expect any new maps anytime soon. They said it takes months to make a new map and they haven’t started on any new ones. They are trying to fix the actual problems with WvW at this time.
