New blog post - no mention of GvG
I am also very disappointed. No GvG in gw2. No perspective. Nothing.
PvP is only capture the point, thats it. No added content there, instead content was removed (tourneys).
It seems we won’t get a reply from anet. They seem to be busy adding new PvE-content to the PvE-game that has nothing to do with guildwars.
It would be at least nice to get a reply from them like: “no, everything is going on as intended…”. Since them answering won’t happen, their silence is answer enough.
I don’t see what the attraction is for some arbitrary group vs group combat scenarios.
It sounds like a weird no mans land somewhere between WvW and team spvp.
It does not interest me, but I thought there were places already established where players can congregate for duels and fixed group vs group play on and ad hoc basis.
Other games base their large scale PVP on different size ‘sides’, but Arenanet decided to go with world versus world, so that is what we have.
Guardian / Ranger / Mesmer / Necro / Warrior
Played since 1st online ‘demo’ months before the BWEs.

The interest & attraction is from people who want to get better at the game for themselves and for their guild, rather than win via scoring points or having off-hour coverage. Believe it or not, people like to actually kill people in PvP, not siege a keep for 5 hours.
It’s a straight-up test of skill. No siege to use, no walls to hid behind, it’s your best 15 vs my best 15. Winner take all.
My fun laughs at your server pride.

So in otherwords, an kitten measuring contest.

If you mean a test of pure skill yes. You GvG to LEARN from the group you are up against.. not to just destroy them.

Yeah. But with some context, too. Imagine buying/building your own guild hall and deciding on what you want it to look like, then defending that against other attacking guilds. Also being able to watch/replay other guilds’ matches in-game. That’s the kind of stuff I miss from GW1 and sort of hoped to carry over to here, name of the game and all..
WvW is great fun as it is, but the fact that so many guilds do get together for GvG kitten measuring contests on the public maps shows that the interest for this kindof thing is there. Why not pick up on that and provide an environment where it won’t ruin the fun for other people cause their playground is the only one we have…
To be honest I think adding GvG to the HoTM and sPvP area of the game would be easier to add/better than the PvE version. Being locked into a tier of 3 servers and not being able to skirmish outside of that is pretty lame.
WVW is based on DAOC’s RVR, which had what many regard as the best GvG PVP of any MMO. WVW is the perfect backdrop for this, the problem in this game is that every element of the game promotes zerging as by far the most rewarding mode of play.

I was actually thinking bout this the other day.. why not make it an Art of War upgrade? Custom Arena. You get the ability to create a custom arena in sPvP, up to 60 people total, that’s a 30v30… guilds can invite other guilds to play, PvE/WvW armors apply.

This is true and sounds reasonable, the issue is that if they work out GvG trough HotM, 99% imo it will turn out to be a sPvP ladder.
Still conquest
Still 5v5
Still bad.
Just with guild teams and guild ladders.
So they will be able to say “Here we go, GvG!”
People are asking it trough wvw cause they want it to be massive and open field, not a 1,2,3 v 1,2,3 boring fighting on nodes like the sPvP is.
Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
My prediction for when it will happen
As for what it will be, I’m betting that it will be on the sPvP arena model, but with more maturity in its allowance and configuration of rules, and will include a full PvE gear option.
RvR isn’t “endgame”, it’s the only game. Cu in CU.
I think it would be an interesting addition to HotM.
I think that GvG should be its own thing within the game.
These things operate on longer timelines than Guild Wars 2 has been released. Guild Wars was released in 2005, and its GvG wiki page history starts in October 2007.

Alright, but the point was that guild halls and more focus on “guild content” was mentioned by the devs quite a while ago, but this latest blog post with the outlook for the rest of the year doesn’t talk about them anymore at all now. That’s rather unsettling and disappointing imho…

I think you misunderstood me, I meant using the Heart of the Mists as a hosting ground and balanced around sPvP stats and gear, not PvE stats and gear.
As in a guild guests to another servers HoTM, issue a challenge and then are sent to a zone with cap of say 20 v 20 and they GvG, when one team has been completely wiped a new round begins. Simple as that.
Easy to implement, grows naturally on its own, everybody loves it once they try it… GvG is like weed. It’s gonna happen, the question is when. We can wait.. the scene is pretty healthy.

Yeah, I get that. I agree, too, there’s plenty of features from GW1 that honestly deserved to be in GW2 1.0. There’s also some long-lived bugs whose existence reeks of irresponsibility.
However, I think that many of these features are not in yet for two reasons: withholding them allows the game a longer lifespan through incremental introduction of them (which is exactly ANet’s m.o.), and it seems that they want like-kind but different implementations of features like that. They want this to be unique, rather than a 2.0 version of GW1. It’s not a bad move.

Well as long as it’s still on the agenda, I can live with that too. But at the moment I’m feeling so drowned in living story things and mini games and whatnot (which I couldn’t care less about) in every patch and every interview and every blog post…. that I’m seriously worried where the focus of this game is shifting towards. And if other aspects aren’t actually getting lost on the way.
Take sPvP for example. All that’s basically happened since launch was that big features got taken away. Real tournaments, being able to win gems, etc. Some new maps with the same capture-the-point mechanics were added, fine. We got a half-arsed ladder. Now we’re supposed to get a solo-queue ranking. Uh.. yeah great, but what about the bigger picture, and the direction of all this? Some vague words about that, and meanwhile I don’t really trust vague words like that anymore.
No mention of new guild features is even worse than vague hints. :/
You’re saying just have faith? Well, I’ll try.. and hope that I won’t be playing a PvE-only game in another half year.
Look on the brightside, at least we have awesome expensive abilities like the ballista spreadshot, the arrowcart toxic shot or the burning oil increased damage, they work wonders against large groups of Risen!

lol
Agree with OP. Please add GvG and a raid interface!
There’s no doubt that some people like the GvG meta.
However, it isn’t WvW, it’s a minority interest within WvW.
That makes it a minority within a minority and therefore of no commercial value – sorry guys, you’ll have to be happy with the bit of space that’s been cleared for you by the windmill. (Hope you don’t mind the pigs)

Maybe on your server. On ours, if the word gets out that a GvG is happening, half the map will turn up to watch. Do NOT assume it’s a minority interest just because you’re not interested.
Let me guess, American or German?
Thats is already know that we will not get GvG in forma like we want. Basicly we want 20/25v25/20. Some times ago, AN already told, that there wont be a GvG in that form. There will be some sPvP GvG with 5v5 or 8v8.
Why that? it’s very simply. AN is doing or want do everything to make sPvP e-delusion-sport, and lets say now they are implementing GvG in form 20v20, with some map like WvW. This system got bigger succes than sPvP – BOOM, here starting a problem. First of AN losing sPvP for GvG, so they need to focus more on WvW,GvG system, more balancing for classes, and this system basicly dont have a chance to have any e-sport mean in group of 20v20 or 25v25.
If you guys still think that we will get GvG, then GL&HF but, we will never get it. It will destroy whole sPvP that maniacaly AN want to create. This is sad thing, but relax. In 1 year, we will get some better games for Mass PvP/GvG.

Actually, English and I’ve taken part in a few GvGs too.
Half the bg makitten till only a few people. Usually it’s 2 or 3, sometimes a half-dozen maybe occasionally a high profile match might draw maybe a score – absolute tops.
Compared to the numbers engaged in almost ANY other activity, it’s chicken feed. However you or I may feel about it, I seriously doubt Anet consider it worth a moment’s thought.
They barely give any to WvW anyway.
