Hey guys here’s an interesting idea I just had after reading about the new ascended armour. Having played DAoC I am personally really against the whole gear " trend" mmos have taken over the last decade and would much rather perfer a realm rank/realm rank ability system for WvW advancement. That being said, i do actually see potential for this new stuff. From what I’ve been able to gather from forms/other websites this new gear will function as sort of a one stop shop advancement vehicle…get it once and then constantly upgrade it through these “infusions” or whatever their called. Now while most only see the PvE side of this, I see a great way for ANet to add in some of those WvW specific bonuses we’ve been looking for that, most importantly, could only be obtained through WvW.
For example: let’s say you get a piece of ascended gear (say some gloves). These gloves, while better than exos, will come along with (and I’m making leaps of intuition here) some upgrade slots that will allow you to alter/better the armour through infusions. Now, lets say that if you have say…idk…600 badges (or perferably a rank system based on badges AND player kill amounts) you can get a special infusion that adds 10 toughness as well as a 2% reduction in root durations on ur character in WvW. Suddenly not only have you found a new drive for people in WvW to work/kill for, but you’ve also created a great way for both PvE/ WvWers to benefit from future updates to this apparently long term ascended system.
Now obviously many people will gripe about how this reinforces a grind/unequal playing ground I’m WvW…but personally I think this whole “equality for everyone” is crap anyway (after all…what’s the point of being the fighter if you don’t get some rewards/recognition for it?!) BUT all of that aside I believe this type of system would open up huge doors for ANet concerning WvW as well as provide them a great way to tweak WvW without having to wait for a huge pve update to do it!
