I was trying to think up some positive ideas for WVW that would make fighting more attractive as i find the endless keep flipping and door bashing dull, so was wondering what you though about this idea. Any other ideas out there?
New Event ‘carry the faction flag’
Each side on each map has a flag which when carried into a new keep gives an immediate reward of X points. The further from home base, the higher the points. 1 hour cool down on reward. If the enemy captures the flag then they gain x points and the flag is returned to the owners home base and reward cool down is reset.
The flags are visible at all times on map.
The flag is safe in the home base but you earn 0 points for taking your flag to your base. The flag carrier cannot be speed buffed or made invisible/invuln.
The Flag is immune to capture by the opposition for 3 seconds if dropped and can be picked up by friendly players in that time.
Benefits :
- Flag carriers and keeps are a beacon for conflict/pvp content.
- When reward is about to go off cool down the keep that it is in is going to be an attractive target for both attackers and defenders.
- Possible new chase strategies, groups splitting off to slow enemy down, siege setup at choke points to catch flag carrying group.

We already had that. Its the reason Alpine border look like it does, you where meant to escort an orb (“flag”) into the protected bay and hills inner from the ramp at the back of the north camp.
It was bugged, Anet disabled and promised to fix it. About one year later and no progress on that they secretely scrubbed the last bits of evidence that the orbs had ever existed.
As compensation we got totally broken bloodlust that unbalanced the game completely (now nerfed to the ground).
Good luck getting your flag idea now.

Yea. If it wasn’t such a big issue or if WvW was taken seriously it wouldn’t be that bad. But this would promote a lot of abuse.
shouldn’t kill off a feature because of hacking, shame if that was the case.
I need a new game… Waiting for WvW to git gud (any suggestions on alternate MMOs while I pray for a new WVW?).
There isn’t much else out there that isn’t dated or unfinished in terms of the 3 way open world RvR/WvW/AvA type stuff. GW2 combat is pretty fluid (don’t confuse that with balanced) it’s a shame they never realized the gold mine they were sitting on and chose to treat WvW as an after thought.

i played it on and off throughout the years and intend to check it out again after the update launch and patches. its free now so why not ? very different from GW2, slower combat where “evade” skills of all sorts are taken to whole new levels and there is always a possibility of FFA PVP both group and solo, makes things kinda exciting.
word of warning though, very steep learning curve despite the newbie tutorials etc. read up on it 1st, a lot.

AFAIK there is no comparison to WvW though, where you can just hop into a zone and do some 50v50+ random fighting on a fairly level playing field within minutes.
That said, I will definetly try free Eve. The subscription and obvious dedication the game require has always turned me off. The idea of lower level free cannonfodder fighter/small ship mode played just for fun is interesting, but I fear they managed to get something in there that “forces” you to pay at some point even to enjoy that.
In order to promote skirmishes you would first have to deal with the omniblob issue, and the recent verdict from Anet tells you how much of a chance that stands. Anything else would be a bandaid or gimmick.

tip: check out faction warfare. somewhat of an equivalent of roamers / havoc paradise that sometimes, or sometimes more often, escalates into bigger or even huge battles.
