i like how they constantly reiterate how PVE players wont miss out much, i wish they had put so much of thought about wvw players in the last 7 months.

However, something is better than nothing for now.

Yeah im gona pick at things that bug me.

This new WvW progression system is intended to enrich the WvW part of the game, in the same way that Map Completionists, Legendary items, and Ascended Gear, as well as cosmetic items are out there for the more PvE-minded folks. None of the progression earned in WvW will affect the PvE side of your character, so if you’re not into the massive PvP you won’t be missing out on anything. Mike talked about how it’s specifically tied to WvW, and only WvW.

Now they are making sure your character progression in WvW stays in WvW, wouldve been great if they had that mindset when they released Ascended Gear.
So the PvEers can bring their enriched character progression (read: Ascended Gear) into WvW and benefit from it with an advantage, but they made sure you cannot bring your WvW progression and benefit from it in PvE. Nice…

The ultimate goal is that this new progression system will add thousands of hours of playtime to WvW, and finally give WvW players something to work for aside from winning or losing keeps for server bonuses.

Those of us that played WvW have already sunk so much time in it, we did it because we had fun doing it. No other reason to do WvW because there wasnt anything else to really earn from it.
We dont want a forced time sink like this. Come up with new, better, content for WvW. Actually substantial stuff, not a tacked on grind! This wont make anyone that has been playing the same map for the past 6 months more interested. Or get anyone, that is already burned out from it, back.

With the March 26th update, WvW players will have a whole new way to obtain various racial, special, and other items that were previously only purchasable with karma………If a new karma vendor has a new look for an item, this way they can put it in WvW as well, and vice versa.

Sounds like we dont actually get unique WvW gear. We get what is available, and if something new was made for WvW it would be available somewhere outside of WvW aswell.
But yah, biggest issue so far with reward was that PvE is a multitude more rewarding. You get more gold, and you get gear faster. Anything about that, to rebalance the cost?
Or is it still 1.5h of dungeons for 1 piece vs 1 week of WvW for 1 piece? This quote

is a bit hopeful, so we’ll see. Fingers crossed!

Worth noting is that the stats are the same as those you’d get in any other part of the game,

I’m gona be a realist here and say this probably means it wont be Ascended Gear. But normal Exotic. So much for the hope that we didnt have to grind PvE for the top-tier of gear.

All these updates to the WvW system are only part (though one of the most keenly anticipated parts) of the March Guild Wars 2 patch.

Sadly they then go on and refer to nothing but PvE related stuff. Sounds like the big WvW update isnt so big afterall, and got pushed back to accomodate PvE stuff. I guess you cant call it a big patch without stroking the PvE crowd.

I guess we’ll know tommorrow for sure, but i wouldnt get my hopes up to high

Not realty much new info there only the badges thing and that is a manor boots for thoughts who only like WvW and do not wish to pve all that much. So it sounded good when Anet put out this info and it still good when some one else re puts out the info with a bit more. This is truly the update that should make things better for the WvW players heck we may get some pve players to finally start to WvW for once too (have some pride in your world for once and help it out!)

Because they made no changes to it in this patch. They said they are looking into the commander but are not working on it yet.

lol! We seem to be getting a new way to obtain karma items through WvW badges. So we can transmute our tatty exotics to look ‘cewl’. Isn’t that great?

Sorry ArenaNet, WvW players have a different mind-set. We want stuff that actually DOES things.

I’ve got shed-loads of karma I don’t need as it is.

Seems like a dissapointment but we’ll wait for the patch before drawing conclusions. No commander changes is strike 1 thou. Come on, this is childsplay…

And seems I can buy only crappy karma gear with the badges. I’d rather buy siege with it.

These things are funny

But the breakout events so far have been really well received, and it seems like they’re really helping people get out of their spawns

Ow really, people love them you say? It gets people out of the spawn you say? Or maybe people dont bother with that last tower anymore because they know 2 champions are gona show, plomp down indestructable siege and give a 50 man zerg full supply.

Doesnt really care who the server is that it helps. Could be the guys that are leading with 30k points. Suuuuure, they need a leg up alright.

They found a way to attract pve players in wvw, simply turn it into pve aswell! they’re looking into expanding and adding more of such npc events. just great.

Seriously? This progression system is nothing like any of these.

The ranks, of which there are around two-thousand come March 26th, will come at you relatively quickly.

This is good news.

Statements like this are just completely false. No-one will play because of this progression system unless they ad more and better items and its too mundane to really give players the sense of working towards something.

Items in GW2 have both an appearance and stat boosts that can be interchanged by various means. With the March 26th update, WvW players will have a whole new way to obtain various racial, special, and other items that were previously only purchasable with karma.

I just hope badge prices are reasonable.

Mike Ferguson: Honestly we got a much, much larger response than we were expecting early on. It turned out that people just really liked playing this style of game and we’re rapidly responding as fast as we can to address some of the concerns that people have brought up.

If this is true they weren’t watching the betas very closely or the online forums. As for the response time…… 6 months to get this patch is not a rapid response.

Do you consider the engine and client to be “done”, now, from a WvW perspective, or is there more to come?

Mike Ferguson: Well, we’re never really “done”. We’re hopefully done with this section of it, I can say that!

Well there is the emerging problem of skill lag.

Habib Loew: We have. That’s something that is a separate system away from the player culling system. We chose to address culling first because we felt not being able to see people in a fight is a big issue. Now that we’ve got a solution on deck for that, we’re actively looking into ways that we can modify the spell effects system to not only give better performance, but make smarter decisions about how we use spell effects so I’m really looking forward to that at some point in the future.

Hopefully not another 6 months, although in all probability it won’t matter by then.

GW2Hub: Does this extend to Ascended items?

Mike Ferguson: We don’t have it in for this particular build, but it is definitely on our list of things we want to add to it, it’s just that we encounter some issues getting it into this particular build.

This is how i see most ppl who think they are quitting because of these changes because in the end of things WvW is about betting the other team and if there best chose is to say they give up its just shows there true skills in wvw.

We actually want the movement to go the other way, instead of everyone crowding onto the bigger servers, we want people to be going out to the smaller servers, so we’re looking at a couple of different things – but nothing I can really talk about right now, unfortunately.

Here’s your fix Mike. Do not allow transfers to t1-4, limit character moves to once every 6 months, cap server transfers to x-players per week. easy fix

You’d never get out of queue from PvErs fighting one another in the middle of nowhere just to farm badges.

Ascended is content locked (or in the case of dailies a controlled time flow).


The idea they are going with atm seems to be that:

  • Spend all your time in PvE you gain Ascended and be better at PvE.

All things considered, and since WvW isn’t about 1v1, what’s more important to you as a WvWer? The new passives or Ascended gear? If they are properly balanced then someone in full ascended who’s spent little to no time in WvW is worth less then someone in exotics who’s spent all their time in WvW.

The opposite problem, unfairness of acquisition, inequality across modes, also remains if they introduce a new currency or ‘one per day’ type gated acquisition for ascended in the future of WvW, because we are already months behind what PVE players have already been able to acquire.

It’s no longer good enough just for them to introduce what would amount to a equal system to laurels for WvW, when PVE players have their slots are already filled or very much partially filled from working toward this stuff for months.

WvW players have been playing their mode just as diligently for those months, acquiring badges, just they can’t buy anything worthwhile with them. It would not hurt a thing if they at least allowed one slot, say rings or earrings, to be purchased straight away with badges (a high number of course). As that would just let WvW gain a little back on ‘catching up’ with what they have already missed out on.

Dailies since being worth anything have been largely doable from the WvW aspect so we’re only behind on Amulets if you chose not to do the daily which, often times, fell into line of play anyway.

Earrings and Rings are the only ones stuck in PvE… though I wouldn’t even really consider the Earrings PvE gated so much as Influence gated which is universal and doing the actual Guild Missions takes all of 15 minutes once a week.

So… rings. That’s about all that’s actually gated behind PvE on top of PvE.

Except that statement is only about skins.

PvErs will miss out on WvW related things like:

  • Ranks + Passives
  • Rank Titles

And they’ve already given us PvE-free PvP -> Mists. Ascended is an irrelevant imbalance when pitted against coverage, numbers, and commanding prowess. As I said, if the balance is appropriate, a hardcore PvEer in full ascended stepping into WvW should be at a disadvantage to Rank 2000 Commander McAwesome of Jade Quarry in full Exotics.

Would it be neat to have it in WvW? Of course.
Do I care? No, not really. As I said, I don’t even think most of it is PvE gated anymore, just the rings. (Bounties, for example, are a quick and easy way to practice coordination, as I see it.)
Do I care about a couple of rings? Ehhhh. Not really.

Irrelevant as those things that are entirely worthless in other parts of the game! It’s like saying PVE players miss out on ramming a door if they don’t WvW, thats kind of the whole point. They aren’t going to want those things in the first place.

But WvW players do want gear that is either only available in PVE, or at least partially you have to spend time there.

People should realize that this game is divided into 3 vastly different sections, especially at end game. There are competitive sPVP players that do no PVE, and their mode is fine with that. There are PVE players that play no WvW, and their mode is fine with that. There are also people that only play WvW as an endgame, but their mode is not fine, they are forced to go do other stuff for best in slot gear.

If I didn’t have to do events and kill bosses for gold to fund WvW, I would probably hardly ever do PVE in this game anymore. It was decent enough up through 80 but I’ve spent more than enough time on PVE in past games, don’t need to be forced to do it here when its not enjoyable.

Seeing as how we were discussing skins in that one part… skins are as worthless in other parts of the game as a title.

Well they should be transparent and say so then rather than say ascended will be available via WvW then not implement it. And there are ways around your problem anyway as others have already noted.

More than likely, they had it planned and reached the issue of: “If we tie it just to Badges…” and without knowing how ranks will actually flow/grow in progress in realtime. Let’s just say that four pieces of gear are not worth turning WvW into PvEers grind zone for loot.

Did you read my post? Or stopped at the first half of the sentence? I can cut it in WvW. I geared all my characters with WvW money, and crafted them up with WvW money. I earn plenty of G’s killing the enemy. And I love WvW, but I hate to fight braindead NPC’s were you can see there attacks comming from miles away. That is why I play against real players.

If they add even more PvE content in WvW, it ain’t WvW anymore it will be WvNPC’s. And if we are heading towards such a scenario, me and tons of other hardcore WvW players will leave this game and look for another one were we can try our skills out against REAL players without having to fight stupid creatures.

I get enough karma and money from WvW to gear up my characters, mainly run ptv on guardian, and maybe I dont have ascended gears? I dont need it. I was attacked by 3 AR yesterday from which one of them had a legendary, so I assume he had ascended gear as well.
ascended gear only gives stuff like +ptv and +ptv, my trinkets however have +ptv and +hpt.
also, badges I dont care about getting gear from them. I run commander and I burn through a stack of rams in one day if its a good day and I’m not forced into defending, besides I prefer to make superior sieges as well, so I do lack badges. make sieges available for karma would be awesome, and getting badges from caps, like 2 badges from camps, 5 from towers, 10 from keeps and 20 from SM? would greatly improve the gain of badges, need for gear etc.
for me, money is no problem because I die average 33 times each day, upgrade towers and keeps etc, and I still have spare money to buy shiney PvE weapons (maybe they’re not shiney, but I got HoM skins too ^^)
I mainly play WvW, and I would love it if it were possible to get some stuff easier for WvW, but it would be great if the people who come from PvE to WvW would actually know what to do before entering WvW, because as I said, I die average 33 times each day, and that is because of PvE people in WvW always backlining and running from enemy groups rather than charging in and killing them, leaving me and 5 other players dead within their mob, ending up with a blob of 50 enemy at the nearest tower, and no way for me to communicate with them well because they dont read chat.

what I’d love in an update for WvW: ingame voip!
