New to WvW..spots for roaming/skirmishes/1v1?
By definition, roaming does not involve being in one spot.
Small scale fights tend to happen near objectives that roamers can easily take down solo or with a single friend. Camps, Sentries, etc.
If you are roaming, you always keep an eye to the horizon to watch for enemy zergs.
As a thief my favorite place is between north hills and the north east camp. You get a lot of solo and small groups running through there. You will get a zerg coming by from time to time but there is a lot of terrain to run away if needed.
On my Necro anywhere on the south end of the map (south of bay/hills) seems to be good or I have just been lucky there lately.
Realistically if you want Solo fights, stick to enemy WP areas. There is always that one guy that died and has to run back to the zerg or just joined the map. Also doing the supply circuit, just run from camp to camp. Though North camp might draw a bigger fight as the home BL server will probably want to defend it.

For me it depends on how the maps are going. For the home BL if your getting pushed hard and you don’t have hills or bay, you’re going to find a lot of zerg play up north since that’s the only place for them to push. If you have hills or bay you’ll find more enemy havoc groups trying to hit camps in the north to slow your supply so smaller groups will be more common.
Enemy BL can be harder as the home server zerg can be anywhere (especially if garrison is Way pointed) and they will tend to respond to most attacks on camps. Can also be said as above it depends on how the map is going. Personally I enjoy enemy BLs because you tend to find more enemy activity.
EB can be anything. There is always a lot of activity, Some people prefer EB some hate it, its all about taste. Roaming in EB can really be done anywhere.
Also remember this is just a generalization, since every server and commander runs things different it all can be very unexpected and unpredictable. This is just my experience while roaming.
Lastly another good spot is “zerg island” or the vista north of south camp. Its almost guaranteed you’ll find people there that are more then willing to fight be it can be very high traffic for zergs to run by.

It’s a bit profession/build dependent as well.
If playing thief, anywhere is fine. To some extent mesmer as well, although learning the terrain is more necessary for success.
If playing a profession with less escapes you’ll need good overall map awareness to avoid enemy zerg movements while accomplishing anything. That just takes time/experience. Build to run, no matter your profession, mobility and sustain are key to any good roaming build.
It’s also dependent on your home server and current matchup. Generally higher “tier” worlds will be zergier, but there are exceptions.
