New wvw map for expansion?
I don’t work for Anet but the answer is definitely no. As it should be. They’ve got to get their house in order before they put resources into another map.

DBL is great. If you do not like it fine, do not go there. I have had some of the most epic fights ever on the DBL. I for one am glad they made it.

I’m glad you like it, honestly I really do. But no one can deny it wasn’t a clusterkitten. While there were many aspects to the events that followed, DBL was one of the main reasons why many WvWers left after the HoT release. I mean they did end up removing it and bringing back the much more loved Alpine Borderlands.
And if someone says “well they brought back DBL on a vote”, that vote stated that if people said no to it, Anet would stop any major future updates to WvW. So it was very much a hands tied situation.
DBL since they removed the walls its good for roaming but for zerg its horrible. No towers can hit keeps with trebs. Anyways A-net did state that is DBL won that poll they would work on another borderland map. Hopefully it will be more zerg focused instead roaming focused like DBL.

They certainly will not add a new map after all the complaining you all did when desert was released
From the player I talked with, DBL was released ignoring a lot of the input from the wvwers beta testers. After wvw participation drop after it was released. A-net had to stop going back and fix a lot of the issues with DBL, but it still had an negative effect overall in wvw. People asked for it to be replaced with alpine bl. When the poll to place DBL back into the game was done, A-net stated that they would making another borderland if DBL came back. DBL is back so whenever A-net make another borderland hopefully they will listen to the input from the wvw beta testers.

After DBL I have zero faith that the current WvW design team (well, if there is one) has the capability to create a new map that follows the basic WvW objective design. We’ve had two new maps since release – EoTM and DBL. EoTM is pretty but it isnt WvW. The objective design make zero sense for a competetive border. DBL is once again pretty (well in a deserty sort of sense) but it doesnt follow the basice rules of WvW objective design, everything is independant and far between. That’s a 100% failure rate.
I’d rather see them doing something a little more… safe… in a 2 part update:
- Visual update of ABL to enhance the frosty theme (compare with the snowy sides of EoTM) and for the sake of simply updating the map to DBL level of visual quality. Though please, minus the cloaking fog that drops fps by 50%.
- A 90% direct copy of EB that is revisualized as a the HoT jungle theme (ie instead of grass, it’s a jungle with massive trees growing out of keep walls, swamplands etc similar to the oasis visuals of DBL. As a very simple example, the SM on this map would obviously be of Tarir design instead of Tyrian.
(alternativly a 90% copy of ABL, but personally I think WvW should move towards an overall EB design on all it’s map. EoTM sort of did it but fell far short, while DBL seems to have tried to do it but failed utterly and became a kitten twisted version of ABL)
Tbh any new map is welcome for wvw because 5 years of same maps is just boring. Just as long as its not a underwater one its fine.

In visual matter yes, Anet is state of the art, but for some reason the map was hated.
Is to step on eggs, if they make a new one, have to test extensively and including up even the owners of the company.
the dbl is a great looking map with scenery and when it works it really works and you get cool fights thing is 80% of the time ot doesnt work because the map has to many layers and on top of that its too big making meetups between zergs rather tedious. If they can make a less layered and on the snow bl size map then it woulf be recieved very well imo. But then again the mater is do player want atm more system support or they can make a small w8 for a new map?

I agree with you 100%. I just need to correct that last statement. They didn’t say they would cease future updates to wvw. They just said they would scrap the new map and it would never be used again if it got voted out completely. Alas, people settled to have only one instance of it.

The result is that neither they themselves play the game mode.

That made absolutely no sense whatsoever.
I fear the answer is no, but I hope they are working on a new map as well. We do need to get to the point where each map is unique and is not repeated. I would also go for all maps made in the future as structured as three sided maps that don’t favor any one side. Still believe part of EB’s success is in the equal footing layout.

So if people truly wanted it to stay ABL, they would not have voted for DBL to come back. Seems the majority of the players enjoy the change of new maps.
What people on these forums don’t realize is – the forums are the vocal minority. I would be surprised if any more than 10% of the player base visits the forums.

Don’t think everyone voted it in so they can play on it, but to keep it in the game for variety and to support those that did want to play it, or even to keep the rotation from happening.
My preference is ABL 100%, but I voted to keep dbl around, and I prefer it around as one bl than all three for 2-6 months or however long they were planning to set that rotation. I wouldn’t mind another map whether that’s bl or ebg, at this point they might as well do another bl to get the 3 different ones. But it better not have the ground hindering annoyances the dbl still has today, and the strategic placement of structures should be given a lot more thought. After that it should only be ebg type maps, even just updating the art on ebg would be a nice change.

Personally I would love to see another map like EBG. As someone suggested somewhere, just copy it, alter some terrain in some spots, make the theme to jungle, and put a big mayan pyramid in middle instead of castle.
Only thing I would do, since it would be a BL map, give the home team closer distance or faster way to travel to the middle vs the other 2 teams.
Also, this is just my preference, but I am very sick and tired of deserts and snow type deserts. Would actually like more green maps with vegetation in them.

I don’t think just re-sknning the terrain would do it. You need something different enough that there are new tactics to employ. Part of the WvW burnout in the past was that sameness, oh they are on the cata wall, use the ACs to the north. Watergate, cannons and AC from topside.

Then do more than reskin it. A duplicate of EB doesnt need to be identical. You can do tons of actually quite big changes and still keep it the “same”.
To make some simple examples:
- North keep moved a little further west (the two towers east of it are also brought somewhat more west)
- Dredge cave is now dense swampland with a camp (Rouges has been moved while the NW camp has been moved further north)
- SM now has a bridge extension southwards that link it to a new tower which when held, grant a defensive boon to SM (a massive power laser beam is seen from tower to SM)
- Durios is now a more fortified and larger tower positioned on top of the cliffside east of SM
Now skin it as a HoT jungle with SM being Tarir and lots of jungly trees and native frogs everywhere, make subtle terrain changes to fit the new theme and there ya go. A “new” map.
