I see a lot of posts about “night capping” and even one created by the mods. But that is a incorrect label for the true issue that was brought up. Let’s start out with the fact that night capping does not exist WvW is a 24 hour “war” as Arena.Net has stated themselves there is no “night” in something that is 24/7 seven days a week. Which is a great feature it’s available to everyone at all hours anytime.

The real issue people want a competitive game mode. It does not matter if your playing in France, Germany, America, Brazil, Australia or Mexico. Everyone should have the same fun gaming experience. Everyone wants the large scale wars where teams are pushing each other back and forth and struggling for every bit of land they capture on the map. Why does it matter what time you play? It makes no difference if you play at 4 pm or 4 am. What does matter though.. is being seriously outnumbered. Why would you allow one team to be outnumbered 100 to 15 there is nothing competitive about that and anyone who disagrees should be ashamed of themselves.

There is no glory, no reputation, no credit, no skill and most of all no point in taking a game serious that allows teams to be 50 vs 5. WvW is the only game mode in GW2 that allows handicaps. Which is okay i’m fine with that but how many advantages is to many? We currently have the following ways to create a advantage over other players:
Leveling , Gear , Money , Population , Orbs

How many more do people need? From a competitive point of view games should be won on skill alone which first person shooters do perfectly and MMO’s are still struggling to do. GW2 advertised this game as being skill based but handicaps do not follow in the footsteps of a skill based game. Should they nerf them? Not for us to decide. Should we pay attention to what people say? Absolutely.

If your PvPing to seek glory, fame, reputation or just looking for some competition you can not ever gain respect for winning from a handicap. So many people are currently trolling on the forums about their “accomplishments” at being first place or second place. But no one really cares because they know they have not really even been defeated. Just cause your server is in first place does not mean your a pro PvPer I can promise you there are players who are very skilled on all servers better then people on even the first place servers currently.

So how do we make WvW a game mode where people can finally respect the 1st place server? What do we do to make WvW more competitive? Making the PvP more skill based does not have anything to do with dumbing the game down in fact it’s the opposite. A lot of people on the forums are saying there is nothing wrong with WvW and that people just need to recruit for their own servers.

Well I don’t know if you have noticed but your server is not your guild. Forums are not part of the game and you are a minority of the gaming population using these forums. Majority of players do not even touch these forums. Forum politics is not actually playing the game no matter how many ways you twist it and try to argue that it is part of the game it is not.

People leaving the game is bad news for everyone. Winners or losers if people leave we have nobody to play against and that is very bad news for everyone. So no matter how elistest people want to be everyone needs to be happy to sustain a large player base and keep this game at a healthy amount of players. Continued-

Another thing that needs to be addressed is the fact that free transfers are making the situation worse. The average gamer will take advantage of every little exploit or advantage they can get there hands on(Karma weapons perfect example). Players will transfer to winning sides, better servers and proclaim all of a sudden they are champion’s of PvP. So how can you expect players to govern themselves when they flock to exploits and would rather wait in 5 hour queues then get instant ques. These are the same players who value showboating more then actually logging into a WvW match to make a difference. Kaineng is a perfect example of players unwillingness to give up advantages for more playtime.

If your player base is unwilling to correct the imbalance on their own then it’s time for you to do it yourselves arena.net. Current server populations are a joke and only continue to get worse due to advertised WvW rankings and free transfers. Majority of servers get steamrolled by servers using handicaps to annihilate them and players would rather transfer then wait out a boring 3-4 days of PvP. In the end it only makes servers more messed then they already are.

So seriously stop labeling the issue “night capping” wither your for it or against it the issue has nothing to do with night time. The real issue is no team oriented game can be remotely taken seriously with such huge differentials, handicaps, advantages and poor sportsmanship.

Yea I have to agree about one thing in this, the free transfers which was supposed to stabilize and balance the servers hasn’t worked at all. If anything its done the opposite. People are jumping from server to server in order to make temporary alliances, some are making bets about who will win and loser changes server, Pugs are just switching to the winning sides making it so the servers no winning dont have the numbers to make a comeback.

I can’t think of any reason why they continue to have the Free Transfers up now.

Though, I don’t think this is the main reason why servers are losing. I think the main reason servers have been losing is because after the first day, one team is ahead, and the others give up. This was especially evident in my own server last rotation when I didn’t experience a single queue after the first night for world vs world. There needs to be more immediate incentives to the individual player to keep playing WvW after they fall behind apart from those world bonuses.
