So many questions since I got back into the game. I still see some annoying things going on, and one of them is nightcapping.
I have been away for more than a year so I dont know if Anet said something about it in the last lets say year year and a half?

I wonder why wvw players on a EU server has Canadian, Mexican etc players on them? It’s very unfair for people and servers that think about getting a higher rank by player their kitten of during the day. But then during the night the whole BL + EB is taken by nightcappers. You can never beat that, so I hope Anet will do something about this..

get over it. just because there are people elsewhere that play when you do not, does not mean that it’s too strong, or that they should be penalized for playing the game.

they created NA and EU servers because even though signals travel at the speed of light – getting signals from Europe, to a datacenter in Texas, and back to Europe would make for almost unplayable lag. They have datacenters in Europe to process information for EU servers, which speeds things up for those players. THAT is why the have regional servers, not because they want all the americans playing together and all the Europeans playing together. It’s a purely technical decision, driven by the limitations of technology today.

If a server is losing to certain timezones they should recruit for those timezones or failing that people can transfer up if they want more competitive matchups.

True but that’s the technical aspect of it.
Anet must have had a design choice in mind when they created WvW. And I seriously doubt it’s servers winning because there is not a single players from the enemy team. They expected people to want to fight, and not play pvd all night.

nightcapping is the only sporting way to play. at least at night I have the opportunity to defend, should I choose to stay up.

during the day I am at work and it’s impossible for me to defend even if I wanted to. Arenanet needs to put a stop to daycapping, it is full of cheese. nightcapping should be the only thing allowed.

If servers have more coverage, they get more points. If servers get more points they get higher ranked. If servers get higher ranked they fight other high rank servers that likely have similar amounts of coverage. If servers fights servers with similar coverage everyone gets to have fights.

This is the purpose of the score. Don’t treat it like something competitive because it isn’t and can’t ever be.

Night capping is a bigger problem on the EU servers as I understand it.

Seriously though, if I want to stay up ’til 4am playing a videogame, who are you to say no to that?

I have a job that gives me months off at a time and my favorite thing is getting drunk, staying up late and playing games. I was responsible for alot of ppt for my server, prolly more than they deserved.

if the populations are fairly even, night capping certainly turns the match into a blow out. conversely if your server is ranking up because of night capping youll just disappoint yourself when going up against higher tiers and be crushed in turn.

Yes, it annoys me when you northern hemisphere people night cap the work us southern hemisphere people put in.

Why should anyone’s effort be more valuable or important than anyone elses based upon timezones or available playing time?

You’re completely deluded if you think ANET should do anything about it. What about all the Americans who work at night and play during the day, should they miss out also?

What would you say if due to circumstances, you became one of those “nightcappers”, would you be here complaining about it? I think not.

GW2 is an international game and ANET is quite happy to take our money, they don’t care what country it originates from. The solution is simple, live with it, like the rest of us do.

Of course the few nightcappers time IS more valuable in terms of ppt then time of the huge amount of day players. that’s why everyone laughed at Devon for making that argument. Maybe you should think something through before repeating it.

But yeah.. get used to it, it wont change since “WvW is not a competitive game mode”, also stated by Anet.

Sorry I am a NA player who plays during Sea/Ocx/EU time zones. Guess Im a night capper..though we have fights. :P

I didnt think I have to explain it that much. You all know how timezones work right. Right? You make it seem that by saying my nighttime is someone elses daytime there is no other solution for them to play on the EU servers? While it makes a lot more sense for let’s say Canadians and Mexicans to play on the US servers. And have some decent fights while they are there too, instead of wandering into the occaisonal EU player who has a sleeping problem or is a night person
I’m not denying anyone there playtime, but it seems a bit odd that servers can score so high without having to fight anything but doors.
It even affects my play because fighting people with high latency is annoying. Last night for instance we started fighting groups that where warping all over the place. Most of your skills just miss or wont even fire because you see them there, but they are already gone past that.

Everytime I log off WvW it should shut down until I log on again.

I can understand your frustration with this I really can, Ive been in that situation for a long time where our NA might have over 300ppt all evening go into midnight leading by 10k….and by morning everything is paper, we own nothing and we are losing. Been there, like many others because of lack of coverage, it sucks, it really does to see all that work, time and effort go down the drain. But you have to understand its just a part of the gamemode, its flawed yes, but its a part of it nonetheless. The only thing to do is recruit for those timezones where your server is lacking. And if it gets to a point where you just cant take it anymore, transfer out, avoid the anger and frustration and go somewhere to have fun again.

But that is just it. There will ALWAYS be people that have night at a different time than others. That is how timezones work.

A great example is people living in Australia. Their “prime-time” is really not good for either EU or NA-servers, so where should they play?

Or the people that does not work standard 9-5 jobs? Should they also be left out from WvW simply because you don’t want them to play during the time you can’t play?

They got screwed. And I think Anet hoped that when China was being served they could perhaps make some more Asian servers. And Oceanic I dont know how they intended to make them enjoy this game.
And I didnt intend to make it an arrogant post. I would not deny anyone this game.
You know aswell as me that if you look at one of the mathcups during the night and all of it is just one colour, there is something wrong about it.

Blame Anet, they are the ones who create NA and EU servers without being able to play against each other.

They created WvW to be a 24/7 battle yet split people into the above regions.

Regions have primetimes.

They forgot that French Canadians and American Spanish players would probably join some EU French/Spanish dedicated servers, and hence give them more coverage at off-peak times.

This leads to night capping teams which are way stronger compared to some other servers.

But at least WvW is balanced and hasnt need to be changed for 2 years. I mean noones complained about it at all! At least I dont see any posts about such things on the forums

I think most people in general stopped caring about ppt long ago, besides the smaller tier servers. As they have a lot fewer players and tighter communities where everyone knows everyone and have to do a lot more work to upgrade/scout they’re the ones that still try. Mainly because there’s not much action going on elsewhere and they just want to protect their friends’ work.

If what I think is true it explains all the nightcapping threads atleast, because higher tier servers in general don’t have much difference in night populations, atleast in eu. SFR/Deso/Kodash/JS/FSP all have the ability to produce the same numbers.

Eventually I fear they’re going to just make it like EOTM, which would be even worse than the situation now. So let’s be happy we still have server identities for the people who do care for PPT/their server.

I haven’t played in a very, very long time. In fact, I think after the game launched I leveled my one character to 80 and then kinda lost interest.

However, I’m coming back after quite awhile with interest in WvW, and I’m actually astonished that THIS is what people are complaining about now. I’ll be honest when I say that I’m not particularly interested in arguing whether people should have their play times restricted based on their time zones, because last time I checked, this isn’t 1940s London and we don’t have a curfew.

I am, however, suddenly very hopeful as to the state of WvW in this game if this kind of trivial issue is what people are spending their time complaining about, now.

your primetime is not someone else’s primetime. Nothing wrong with night capping.

Why is it so hard to understand that when you look at nighttime scores and every single map is one colour that looks like a balance issue….

wait wait…you’re upset that guilds and players are forming alliances with people outside of their own country and culture to co-operate in a game that builds bonds with other people?

also, places such as Australia don’t have their own server…just an example. pretty sure too that late night for us is like afternoon for them.
