…or later?
Grouch recently posted in the spvp subforums that no balance changes will be implemented until after the completion of the Scarlet living story arc.
Does this mean that no changes will be made to anything wvw-related until then as well?
If so that is extremely disappointing.
IMO, and though I may be naive, account bound wxp is something that shouldn’t be overly difficult to do and would be a huge change to wvw, something that everyone who plays wvw has been asking for for months and months.
I’m starting to feel as neglected as the dungeon community, and that’s saying a lot.

yes it really means that anything more that simple renaming of skill, will not be made for WvW until end of LS season 1 and short break.

Which happens to coincide nicely with when ESO is launching. You re-anchor the core and provide fresh new content for the casuals to try to keep the migration to a new AAA MMO limited. Set the bar higher for a conversion so that it isn’t just “I was bored and wanted to try something new”. MMOs tend to be addicting. You want the “siren’s call” to stay with your platform

Everything in an MMO is around launches because that is the greatest opportunity for a new game (poor launch and you typically die slowly) and the greatest threat for an existing one.

Really makes no difference if they wait to bundle up all the features to try and deter people from playing ESO, people will try ESO regardless because they can continue to play or come back to GW2 at any time. Holding back features only works on a sub game, because you drain another month or two of subs off the player to stick around to try the new features.

There are many players who will play the first month of a new expansion in wow, then take 2-3 months off until the next major patch before they come back for another month or two. They typically do slow release of content, it’s not something arenanet needs to pick up on the account that their features are not getting enough “hype” when they’re release.

Arenanet has to rely on keeping their customers happy most of the time, so that players feel comfortable dropping money on gems here and there. Waiting another two months for features that we know are coming is not going to help with that. The wvw crowd is also getting disgruntled as time goes on, we only have two major features we’re waiting on, the eotm map, and account wxp. Hell waiting the additional two months will probably push wvw players to go try something else in the meantime.

EDIT: forgot sigil and rune changes coming as well to look forward to.

Another derailing post. ^^

Has there been any beta of ESO’s RvR? Given the lack of news and press about it; it will probably be even more neglected than WvW is.

ESO… cannot say anything specifically but I would not hold out hope.

WildStar has a better chance but even that hasn’t been particularly impressive.

Yabbut they run the risk that by then ppl just won’t care.

There hasn’t been much press about TESO at all (for whatever reason, my guess is that they are wary of overhyping the game). My following of the development tells me that the RvRvR is far more central to the game as a whole than WvWvW is supposed to be in GW2. Therefore yes they are properly resourcing it. As for the game the feedback I’ve seen of the most recent beta is that the game is clearly improving from previous betas.

Perhaps Morrolan, but the case studies so far and corresponding client data seems to suggest that gamers find the best available option versus leaving the genre. So long as GW2 is “best available” holding back doesn’t result in lost interest.

It is murky science to be sure, but that is the working theory many companies are under right now.

Xenesis, true if you are looking at a consumer that easily tries a month or two of a subscription service. The trouble is the model of consumer/gamer expectation is moving away from subscription models so it is easier to keep people from that initial sign up with “all at once” content patches when you are free 2 play and the other is not. Again, the assumption is that the bar of expectation on a subscription model has greatly increased forcing buzz and initial perception to have to be that much higher to covert a customer.

Again, murky science at best, but that is the current thinking of many companies.

Still. There are guilds that have now taken a break or will be taking a break before ESO starts. An example of this is TKG who raided every night and they have now stopped raiding as of 21/1/2014 and will be taking a break before ESOs release. Perhaps GW2 is the “best available”. But to players and guilds who have been playing the game since launch the definition of “best available” would be heavily weighted towards a fresh game over a stale old one where the game mode you play gets very little attention.
