Guild Wars 2

Today I was playing in gunnars hold borderlands as an invader.
Because yesterday new matches have begun we had little to nothing captured (1 supply camp).
I always try to do something usefull, instead of roaming around looking for kills. But since there was no commander, I couldn’t get more then 6 people behind me to strike at supply camps (unfortunately the enemie forified EVERY kitten rock on the map).

Really nobody listens to you, unless you have a blue sign above your head!
And when their finaly is a commander, he his completely ignored by everyone except my party!

Well it’s ego thing. Everybody think that they know better.

It helps if people on your server get to know each other a bit, voice comms are a bonus. If you need help with something, ask for help or even just let /map or /team know what you and your group are up to, never belittle everyone for not helping or throw a fit in chat, that kind of negativity is catchy. You might start out small and it might take awhile, but people will notice stuff happening on the map and they’ll want to get in on the action. That’s usually how commanders are born on our server.

To lead, one usually has to make a name for oneself for people to listen. Another tip is to team up with people on the map, and work together with them. 5 people can do a lot of damage all on it’s own, even against upgraded supply camps..

Keep helping our commanders and stay in touch with them when you’re on a map, and you’ll see some awesome things.

Nobody in the game has an obligation to be commanded by anyone. Trust in a commander is earned, not taken. Known and good commanders will be obeyed.

Also depends on the time of day some who know each other will listen to 1 individual while at other times they wont even listen to a commander cos there arrogant or just want to do there own thing.

Just because someone had 100 gold doesn’t mean they know anything about leading anyone.

I’ll follow the commanders who I think know what they’re doing.

^ Alla this. You typically can find a camp to take on a map. If it’s not the one your on, move. Find anywhere you can get started. Go unexpected routes, to avoid zergs. Act politely and with confidence, and people will follow you.

I’ve found using a bit of humour and patience gets me all the bodies I need when I ask for help, and I’ve never had a commander icon (never really wanted one). People will naturally want to help/work together if the person asking is kind or funny …. Or even kinda funny

I’d say it only worked because it’s TC… People on BG seen to hate jokes…

I was one of the 1st founding commanders when the game started and at the time I didn’t need a “blue icon” to lead.

The misconception people have is if there isn’t a commander pin, there isn’t no sence of leading.

I hate to say this is true but don’t let it deter your ways of leading because all you need to do is throw up a “lfg tag” and get people to rally on you. As long as you have a few supporters willing to back you up, it is allot more effective then a icon placeholder.

Its just an icon at the end of the day.

I’m still flabbergasted that there is no way for more than 5 people to group in GW2 unless you spend 100gp on a commander pin.

There is no reason there couldn’t be a private squad system (no visible commander pin) that could still help 2-4 groups organize for WvW or PvE. There are lots of guilds that don’t necessarily want to lead the zone, but would love a way to coordinate multiple groups better.

Just something with a private chat channel and waypoint markers that all the groups in the private squad could see. Or have an icon similar to the commander icon, but only those people in the squad can see it.

This would still allow you to invite people and coordinate if you don’t have a pin.

a commander tag means nothing, it only helps guildies outside of a fg to follow the rest of the guild.

server hopping means there are too much people that noone knows, the game has only been out for 6 months or so which is far too short for the real tallented leadership to become self evident and to be aknowledged by a high enough percentage of the population.

most of the time, someone with a commander tag is someone with more ego and gold than skill. most people with a commander tag are the last persons i want to follow.

the whole commander tag is a fundamentally broken mechanic.

If there was a way for multiple groups (either guild or random groups) to form up without a pin but retaining the functions of the commander/squad system…. you would have less pins on the map taking away from those people that CAN lead well.

Many times commanders have the pins up to organize their guild grps. They don’t actually have the desire to lead the zone and are not making decisions that help overall zone fighting. They are simply trying to organize multiple groups for a specific agenda with their guild… IE: Camp taking, ganking, ambushing.

Implementing some form of system for 2-4 groups to coordinate better will reduce the “Bad commanders” and pins on the map.

While I understand what you’re saying, and can see where it’s frustrating.

Where do you get off using the term “obedience”? I hope english is a second language and that wording is just a missuse.

This is a game, no one needs to be subordinate to anyone else, no one needs to obey someone else. If you try to lead and you’re doing a good job people will follow, if you want people to follow your orders and be obedient, they will avoid you like a bad case of crabs.

Like others said, “you catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar.” Be fun, be nice, lead well then people will follow.

Anet made a amazing job in WvWvW. Yet its joy is killed when there is no commander.

Obedience? Is it a joke? Commander Icon cost 100G, that 100G is pay for Anet but not hiring other players. I will follow commander who I know well, or famous, or can show their skill / plain, this don’t mean I obey him, just because I think this will be better then I make it my own.

I know some commanders will turn off their icon just to avoid large zerg follow him in some action, but whenever ppl see him, pugs still follow him……CMD icon really nothing more then a sign in map for easy search.

Sounds like your server just is having a rough time of it. If there is no commander on the map then just wait at spawn and put together a party with people that come in, you can duo camps, dolyaks and sentries with a party of 5 you can do it pretty effectively and have some fun.

If there is a commander on the map and they are not doing to well help them out, chances are you might know more than them and they will appreciate the help.

After all , your all there for the same reason.
