Found my way to WvW, there was a que.

Put me into a side area while waiting, edge of mists.
Ran around awhile lost and confused. Got ganked by someone obviously higher level.

I am lvl 17, just checking things out. This area does not scale? I closed the que for getting into WvW because i figured it worked the sameway?

Is it better to wait until im a higher level, will i just get picked off here? Didnt seem like pvp where it gives you all the abilities?
Anything else one should know? Thanks

Your level scales to 80 in wvw, but you just had bad gear (blue, green?), bad build, and bad combat skill. You will learn that long time wvw players will get ganked easily too, you’re not special in that.

We wvw’ers don’t want upscaled chars to our main zergs. We want lvl 80 with exo/ascended gear, with wvw-meta builds. See ez builds, if still available in web.

Don’t know what is best place to level now, but many have leveled up in EotM.

Best thing to do is to join a guild with a healthy wvw base and follow them around for a bit, take their advice, etc. Alternatively, find one or two people who are willing to take you under their wing to show you the ropes.

The safest place is in a large group following a tag. You could learn to roam around solo or with a friend, but it’s a much steeper learning curve.

As noted, your gear is one of the things that betrayed you. You get leveled up, but you don’t have three stats on your armour at that point. You also don’t have the benefit of full traits, and it takes some time to transition from fighting bots to fighting actual people.

If you don’t find people to show you the ropes, then I’d recommend sticking with leveling in pve until you have all the traits and gear you need, and work on your fighting chops in pvp as well. It might be less frustrating anyway.
