Not Buying the Expansion
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
When I first heard that wvw would be getting content, I was enthusiastically thinking they would finally be enhancing wvw gameplay and started texting people. The more I have heard about what is in store for wvw the enthusiasm faded and was replaced with dread. Chokepoints.. siege shields..heights and traps and UGH the upgrade order makes it so you cannot even choose what you want to upgrade.. The more they talk about it the more I start looking around at what else is out there tbh. Feels like the hourglass has been set and just counting sand now.
At this point, from what I have seen thus far, I do not feel as though they thought about what the majority of wvw players actually enjoy doing. I guess I will wait and see if this improves, but thus far, it is not looking good. If those " tanks" they were talking about adding were anything like the golem mess. RIP

I was always going to hold off on the expansion, but I don’t like to burn bridges.
Could be a while, could be never, it’s up to them.
This has me curious. Didn’t you, as forum specialist, get selected based on favoritism towards the game and it’s developers? The obvious answer based on this is, no. I see that as a sign of honesty on ArenaNets side, but they really should just listen to the wishes of their customers more, that way people are happy with the game and buy expansions because they want to.
That’s just it. The wishes of the customer counter one another. In very many aspects, for every thread demanding one thing, there is a thread demanding the opposite. Then you have posters “claiming” they do not listen to the wishes of the customer, simply because they don’t following through on thay specific customers demands.

Exclusively wvw, and pve and pvp to fund it. Seriously considering not to get Hot. I enjoy playing, sure. But there are issues like hacking (even when plenty reports and videos were sent)and exploits been put a blind eye on…
It probably won’t affect me even 1% of the time. But where I live people value integrity… and if I continue to support a company that doesn’t care a whole lot about the wvw community, I will just be fueling their beliefs that it’s okay for hacking / exploits to carry on because people are still throwing money at them no matter what, both the honest and hackers/exploiters alike.

This is our biggest problem. We, like any large group of people, have widely disparate views of what would be best for the gamemode. For everyone that says we need to merge the low pop servers, we have one saying that ANet must forcibly destack the high pop servers. For every person screaming about PPK being the metric, we have one staunchly defending PPT.
ANet cannot, and should not, try to win with everyone. They cannot win with everyone, and if they did I would shudder to see the game that was created.

The fact that golem rush week exploit had no patch and not even an acknowledgement from the devs tells us it’s not players disparate preferences that’s the problem.
Unless you’re saying some people enjoyed the exploit so Anet shouldn’t have done anything. Are you?
Anet isn’t better than their customers which is why the game is such a quagmire for a long time. In all modes.

I bring it up because of its relevance.
The event might be over, but the fact that Anet did not even acknowledge the problems (much less fix them) shows us they have zero regard for the WvW game mode.
And when it comes to whether to buy the expansion or not, given we’re in the WvW forum, I find this fact very relevant.
These wvw forums are a joke and nothing else..
If I was a new player coming into this game and read these forums I’d probably think this game mode is broken, ruined, unplayable, dead game mode, full of hackers, full of exploiters, the worst out of all 3 game modes and full of a bunch of old grumpy players.
Yet I think it is the best game mode.
Anyways I’m going to go chill in the PVE forums from now on. At least when you say you enjoy something in that section you don’t have a horde of angry players jumping all over you. Oh wait you do and they are usually WvW players..
:D

No one in their right mind would let a single week out of almost three years decide what they should or shouldn’t do with a game.
I somewhat agree with your thought process regarding one week vs. three years.
On the other had I can see the OP’s point and actually agree. I’ve been toying with the idea of pre-ordering to the tune of 200 bucks. Maybe even 300. We have three people playing. The optimum package to buy is the ultimate because you get 4,000 gems and a character slot. Gives you some beta access which is also nice. That is how I came up with 300 bucks. Still with me? Ok, this is where it gets to the OP’s point of view.
1. Lack of WvW information with expansion pack. Yes, we know of a map but not much else.
2. Still no operational player portal with weekly, monthly statistics for players, guilds, by class, etc that focuses on WvW play.
3. Golem rush – event was in WvW not EoTM – weekly scores still counted and a bug
4. No communication or acknowledgement from Golem Rush feedback or complaints
5. No rewards compared to PvE (defending, building, roaming, controlling NPCS, etc)
6. Population and wall clock coverage issues
7. Server tiers – top / bottom are stuck – middle can’t move
8. Borderland maps – great concept, no movement – ruins dead
9. No alliances
10. Never ending ranks, bogus or meaningless titles, should focus on WvW traits or abilities“If” or should I say “since” I mainly play WvW and those are just 10 issues I have off the top of my head, valid to me, maybe not you, why would I buy the expansion? Serious question, not trolling?
After a while the same format of play gets boring especially when the server you play on can’t move up or down due to population and 24×7 coverage. Since the 9 issues I list, my issues granted, and no information on how to address them I am not going to play 300 bucks for a new map…
EDIT: I come from DaOC for a bit of background. Not perfect but at least it had a player portal for guilds, alliances, players, by class, by week, by month
Edit 2: Added 10th item for ranking system – needs work, lowered, changed, focus on WvW abilities or traits
Topic aside, what DAoC server were you on =)

Guys give them time,i am on the same boat, just take a break; for sure balance « process will be finished only 3-4 months after hot release…. util then play another thing or focus on something else.

wow you are really negative. I also dislike the way things go at the moment but as the guy above me said: give them time.
They’ve overall created (in my and many others opinion) the best MMO ever without hardly any MMO experience besides what they were doing in the original Guild Wars. And that game wasn’t even intended or created as a true MMO.
All of this without any subscription fees. How can you call that a terrible company?
I’m still hoping that they will turn things for good. And I will hopefully be able to see some progress in the stress test for myself tomorrow.
I also have my doubts but never judge something before it’s even released.
If WvW disappoints me once hot releases I will say goodbye. But if they show me that they can get things done I’ll happily give them my money.
All we wanted was a GvG.
X not buying the expansion. Kinda getting tired of GW2, and I don’t see anything in the expansion that will really keep me interested in the game. If I’m probably going to get bored and find another game within the next year, no reason to spend more money on this one.

The 3 years since launch hasn’t been enough time for them to do something with WvW-even something as little as keep it clean of bugs, and keep the servers balanced, maybe add ppk? How long do you want us to wait?

X not buying it. From what they’ve shown of the expansion so far it’s not worth the asking price even if I were into PvE. As a primarily WvW and PvP player, it’s just nope all the way, not least because the trait patch that ruined the fun of it.
I don’t trust ANet to deliver a game I’ll enjoy. Simple as that.

From my 2nd page of posts from May of god knows when … 2 years ago? (page 1 are some embarrassing posts about dungeon play and chasing someone in WvW)
One post has the line:
Of course the geniuses at Anet seem to think the main problem is not with population/coverage but with the ratings system.
And here’s another (full) post:
any stealth changes in this patch? because there always has to be some, you know.
I think that’s sufficiently non-white knight :P
I’m in the process of a refund for my HoT pre-purchase, WvW is in a terrible state at the moment and its not likely to get better with the expansion.
The 3 years since launch hasn’t been enough time for them to do something with WvW-even something as little as keep it clean of bugs, and keep the servers balanced, maybe add ppk? How long do you want us to wait?
For me personally there has never been a 100% truly bad experience in the end with ArenaNet so I’m still keeping the hope that they are working on something. Of course you can’t do everything perfect but at least they managed to keep me in the game since 8 years so I trust them for now. (but not enaugh to buy the hot yet)
We know that the expansion has been planned for years now and I personally just guess that instead of implementing all the small things we wish for they will instead add everything at once with hot.
That’s my assumption. If there is no improvement with hot, fine. But until then I hope for the best.
For me it’s just funny to see that people are the most negative while this time before the expansion has the highest chance ever of getting most of the things we ever wanted. So why don’t you wait another 3 months or how long it will take them and look at it after that?
See it that way: as a WvW player you are not even forced to pay money to actually evaluate the gamemode for yourself. PvE players will have to pay money before they can see the content themselfes.
All we wanted was a GvG.
I am an old GW fun and played both GW1 (a month after launch) and GW2 (since early access). Under other circumstances if you asked me whether or not I was buying the 1st GW2 expansion I would definitely answer with a “YES”.
Still, after the recent game development events (latest Balance Patch) and the Golem WvW Week doubts about whether this new expansion will worth it are solidified.
Right now I doubt I will be buying it, at least not before or shortly after release. Why is that? There were many things that made me skeptic in the past but what made me really doubt recently was the following :
1) Latest Balance Patch – Although GW2 have no public test server I was hoping that after 3 years of experience A.Net would know what they should do and how to do that. Unfortunately I was disappointed to see that latest Balance Patch wasn’t a step forward into making a better game. It was a step forward and two backwards bringing the game balance at a worse status than before. So obviously badly implemented changes would take a bunch of average players a few hours to figure out. For a Dev team it shows amateurism or something that was terribly rushed out.
2) WvW Golem Week – Although it was just a week which passed (and hope it won’t return any time soon) it shows that A.Net isn’t really serious looking at one of the three main game modes (WvW). I doubt this event was something that was asked by the player base and drove off many WvW veterans for a week in a rather frustrating way. The event was not something that harmed the game but was a negative sign about how Devs think about WvW.
I hope A.Net will prove me wrong but as things are right now they do have to prove me there is good reason to spend my good 45€ to their product.

Threads like these get real old. Too many personal feelings and opinions always involved.
“Due to [insert silly reason] it’s obvious that….”
- “Anet doesn’t play [insert your class] and favors [insert the class you hate]”
- “Anet doesn’t care about [insert your preferred game mode]”
- “Anet has no idea what they are doing”
- etcetera etcetera
And then we get all these posts where players are flaunting their tiny wallets threatening to not support the game with their cash as if anyone really cares. If you want to quit, just quit. No one really cares why. Just open one massive “I’m quitting game due to [insert reason]” thread and you can all complain together in one place.
Not buying the expansion doesn’t equate to quitting though. =p
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Not buying the expansion doesn’t equate to quitting though. =p
But they have the same complaints, so they would still benefit of posting in an “I’m quitting” thread so they can tell the support group how upset they are.
I don’t think this vague mass of people all think the same way, but regardless the effect is different,. If someone’s really quitting, nothing can be done. Obviously someone still in the game is going to have more of an effect.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I am not quitting but have yet to see anything announced for HoT that is of particular interest to me. Should we be encouraging people to quit because the are not intending to buy makeover kits too?
I’m not buying HoT & neither my guild which has 10+s players of family/relatives/friends of close-knit. All of our good wills have been used up long time ago.
It would take a remarkable change of scene to convince us but we will see.

AND a properly working reporting system they’d not be going through so much pain about what matters and so many things that have been broken in WvW and every other gaming mode since launch.
