You know what’s awesome about this new GvG arena? Everyone goes there. You know what’s awesome about that? It sends a message to Anet that people want these kind of PvP fights with the expanded PvE ruleset instead of the stripped down s/tPvP ruleset.

I’m glad the devs finally did something to encourage trolling and griefing…
Having played a GvG right after it came out here’s my opinion:
1. No merchant, repair or trading post. This is an issue because: people would need to sell, repair their armor and buy foodbuffs during a GvG but the main issue is with repairs.
2. Spectators. This is more of a human-related issue, but griefers are there and will be there. Only way to solve it is to have a friendly guild camp the entrance and kill everyone who tries to pass.
3. Structure: it was a trend that people kept pushing off others from the balconies which can be an issue if these people have falling damage trait as this messes with the result.
4. View. I got complaints that the GvG couldn’t be seen properly. I assume this is an issue for people with lower settings.
5. That darkness… As a caster I need to know what I walk into and who attacks me. This was hard to do with the dark pitch of the place. I may be very picky here but maybe a bit more than a shade of moonlight may help the place.
Otherwise thanks to ArenaNet for making this place. I see it has potential as soon as the hype wears off and a few adjustments are made.
Good first step.. things will die out soon enough for guilds to have gvg’s without spectators..
and everything that DanyK sed..
Thank you Anet for this Arena finally GvG can have place without queues or disturb WvW.
Please add some landmarks to arena, maybe 4 different statues at west, east, north, south so we can use this to coordinate movements on voice chat.
At windmill we could get direction by Windmill, trees , hill or water side. Nothing what could help on Arena just exit.
About Merchant would be nice to have merchant, trader, repairer armor but as this map don’t have queue and is like temporary solution before GvG will be introduced always we can chop to LA and join back or use spawned trader/merchant.
Thanks Anet

There is a queue if enough people get in. A couple guildies wanted to check it out and duel bht had to wait for a little bit.
probably been mentioned but
Merchant / Retraiter / Trading Post NPCs at spawn please!
I’m sure the trolling will taper off as time goes by. Same thing happened on the BL ruins. It’s a fad. If they had made ANY large change to Obs Sanc, this would happen to everyone who was coming in there to check it out.
That said, I would just love to extend a big ol’ thanks to ANet for listening to their players. It was kinda ugly there for a while, and I lost all hope of any support being given to the GvG community, but I’ve never been more happy to be proven wrong.
The Arena is great. We, [EP], spent several hours in there last night doing GvG scrims with OnS, and it was exactly what we’d hoped for. The size is great, the landmarks (flame colors and statue types) really help with orientation and instruction, and there’s a lot of room for spectators to stay out of the way of the fights and watch.
Once our fights started, the trolling almost completely dropped off, and we ended up with a lot of people sitting in the stands and on the wooden piers watching. Even the guilds who had been in there trolling people for hours beforehand (even some guilds who openly oppose GvG) ended up just standing back and watching. Goes to show ya that even the opponents of organized GvG are drawn in once they experience it firsthand.
I’m thrilled. Thanks so much for doing this for us.
The only suggestions I could offer would be:
- Change the color of the floor so there’s more contrast with bodies/names tags. It’s sometimes hard to see who’s alive and who’s dead (on the enemy team). Something closer to the windmill hill’s texture would be great. Either way it’s not “bad.”
- Add merch/repair, or at the very least a repair anvil.

This arena has great potential from gvg to 1v1 and i have to say i really like it, they just really do need a trait and repair merchant to make it complete.
Yes! I very much hope Arena Net adds a trait and repair merchant. It would be really convenient for those who like to GvG.

Arena is awesome. I bash Anet at an unhealthy frequency but credit is deserved where credit is due.
Tweaks like repair merchs and retraiting would be improvements, but honestly I pretty much only have positive things to say about the arena. Most of the feedback seems to be related to “griefing”, which doesn’t exactly have a systematic solution. If a 50-man guild wanted to camp the entrance because that’s their calling in life, then tough luck. GvG/duels have always been conducted on the honor system, so in that regard nothing has changed.
(Obviously organized GvG with actual infrastructure would be even more amazing, but I’m content with the arena for now)
I like the Arena it brings more life to the jp happy to see it.
It just means more kills for me.
Arena might be ok for GvGs but too small for 1v1s. There can only be like 4 duels going on at a time and even then it’s crowded.

The back of the stairs/stands/w.e is a good place to duel.
Yeah that’s where I do it too.
