Official WvW map population cap.
Anet has not and will not state what that is.
This has been asked since launch and there has yet to be an official answer. I also doubt there ever will be.
Tarnished Coast.
Honestly, I’m not sure why it matters. What are you hoping to accomplishment or clear up by knowing the cap? Not being a jerk, just genuinely curious.
IIRC the cap has also been adjusted a couple times throughout the life of the game.

Well cap has been originally 120 for green, 100 for red and 80 for blue – info gathered by players as they went into 1 borderland and counted curing very early time – as I rememebr from reddit it was 3-4 am. CET. After tons of “nerfs” we have around 60-70 now. How I know that? 1. of all we counted it and the result was 60 at spawn with queue add some roamers and it is 60-70. 2. only 2( 20-30 man) guilds get into map now. 3. on reset night we had 86 ppl at ts3, with queue of 20+ for a map and no guild raiding, no1 roaming( at last we didn’t see any other than ours cap for whole night), add some pugs without ts3( not many tho, cos of many ways to check that out, but it is server’s way to check it out so I won’t type it here) and this again gives u 60 – 70.

I think it’s highly likely;
- the sides aren’t even, and
- they aren’t telling us because we would take advantage of it
Not forgetting that apparently some say siege weapons themselves take up one player slot. So the more siege you have the fewer players can get on. Not sure if that’s true or not though.
Some weeks ago we did a borderhop from EB to one of the borders and got a queue – commander said we got ~75 people on the tag I think it was with several roamers and other people visible in the spawn.
I’m guessing that the limit is more around the 80 mark than 60-70. I do believe this was after the limits was increased again from the rather severe limits (which could very well have been 60, we couldnt even get 2 20 man guilds in a border without people in queue).

are people hoping by spreading false information and rumors as if it is fact that they will troll ANET into releasing hard data? Ok, well good luck with that.
It is policy for them to not release any specifics but there have been numerous red posts over the years discounting some the more wild and silly ideas. Whatever the number is, it is the same for all sides and it can be changed as needed.
If a WvW population cap is giving you problems then it might be time to start researching a lower tier world to hang out in. It is only going to get worse with HoT.

Likely?
Your claiming it is “likely” that something you have no evidence for, “likely” is the case? I do not believe you know what “Likely” actually means.
What is more “likely” is that you do not know what your talking about.

Ye, but unfortunatly not enough gold to do that ^^ and it isn’t my bad that anet is lowering cap to hold their cheap servers up – it is still laggy tho. Also clear info would help to count how many guilds can get in and put up some spreadsheets. Also it was advertised as “huge battles” actually now WvW is more like small scale battles due to a lot of restrictions like lower cap.
I was wondering if we can get an official responce from Anet on the CAP for WvW population?
I know its hard to get an exact count on the people on a map as there are always people running about doing their own thing or sitting AFK somewhere on the map. But just to help clear somethings up that have been getting discussed in teamspeak channels and Map chat can Anet please confirm what the Cap is before the Queue for each map kicks in.
I have heard many different numbers thrown about so a Anet dev answer would hopefully clear up some of the confusion hanging about on the subject.
There is no official response on this from A-Net, but we do have a really good idea obtained via unofficial observations.
observations are as follows:
1. There appears to be a “soft cap” and a “hard cap”. The hard cap is basically a couple reserved positions for people reconnecting after DCs, geting late on map when multiple players enter at once, etc.
2. Remember when Teq 1st came out ? On a brand spanking new Overflow map without a soul on it we were able to get 180ish people total. Everyone was in TS, and there really was literally no one else on map, best there may have been an AFK bot somewhere but only like 1 or 2, which still leaves it 180ish. We have confirmed this multiple times via VOIP coordination. Note that later most people did not use VOIP, but that was later, not at 1st, at 1st EVERYONE had to be on VOIP.
3. On rare occasion when WvWvW servers were still well populated we did get everyone on map in TS. And that was 60ish people. 60ish x 3 (1 per each side) = 180ish, which corresponds with point #2 noted above. Total map population 180ish, hence 60ish per side.
4. When I used to religiously play this game and WvW, I was in a huge guild which was able to literally fill 1 and a half maps just by itself on many occasions. Sometimes I commanded or co-commanded and helped coordinate all this. So I am very well familiar with the numbers I had, and that also supports the 60 ish per side soft cap.
Important note:
The info mentioned above is from BEFORE megaservers. megaservers have altered the caps for PvE maps, however the caps are still the same for WvW as they used to be for the entire game. So while the PvE data is now outdated, the WvW data still stands. I am not sure however if ETOM has a different cap, or if the expansion will change these numbers.
